It was officially Cass day. They were one whole year older! They were a big tall (Unfortunately, this one still wasn't true) 13 year old now. This year their birthday fell on a Sunday, which meant that they didn't even have to go to classes on it. Which was officially the best birthday treat ever, by the way. Last year they hadn't really done anything to celebrate it, and they didn't have any plans this year either. At breakfast they had been attacked with a barrage of owls carrying packages from their family, which had been fun till one of them fell on their head. Getting presents was always cool, but sadly their father refused to buy them anything cool like dungbombs. This was clearly an injustice to children everywhere, but at least the presents they had gotten were pretty cool.
They didn't really have any plans for the rest of the day. Probably find some trouble to get into. Do all the normal Sunday things that one did on a Sunday. Which was why they were very surprised to find a note outside their dorm on their way back from breakfast. Not their dorm specifically. Just the Slytherin ones. They leaned down to pick up the suspicious piece of paper.

Huh. That was weird. The note didn't have a name on it, to or from. Which was even more weird. It was probably for a prefect though, with the whole "Totally official prefecty business" bit. Official prefecty business didn't normally get delivered by note though. At least they thought it didn't. They hadn't been a prefect for very long. But! That was all beside the point. Because they were a prefect, it could be addressed to them. If it wasn't, too bad. They were curious now. So when it reached five, Cass had made the trek up the courtyard to check it out. Mystery note would stand no chance against the mighty Cass Ito. At least once they figured out where on earth in the courtyard they were meant to be.

─────October 12th.
The day Alex had been planning for since the middle of September. It was her friend Cass's birthday. They had kind of just appeared in her life one day along with her other friend, Aston, though in a very different fashion than him. The party she had planned alongside her other friend, Elena, was going to be perfect. There were strings of light around the courtyard, giving it a very magical vibe. In the center of the chosen area was a table covered in an assortment of snacks and drinks. In the middle of the table was a two tier, silver and green cake with the words "Happy Birthday Cass" written on it in white icing.
"This looks great, they're going to love it," Alex said to Elena who had just finished helping her set up the decorations. She looked down at her unnecessarily expensive watch, "It's just now 4:50, so we still have time for everyone to show up." Alex had met Elena at summer camp, the two had shared a tent with a couple of their other friends and had hit it off fairly well.
I've done my duty well. No friend of mine shall have a party-less birthday. Which reminds me... "I believe it's Aston's birthday soon, I doubt he'd want something grand, but we obviously have to start planning something for him," she muttered, checking her watch again. 4:52. Eight minutes for everyone to arrive.

Elena bounded down the stairs, her face glowing with a wide grin. Today was indeed destined to be an amazing day : it was her friend Cass's birthday. She remembered their first meet, back at the summer camp welcoming feast, where they managed to steal Elena's beloved pancakes right from under her nose - a theft that has strangely sparked a friendship. They met again at the mistletoe spin ball, where laughter and kind spirit filled the night. Cass, with their boundless generosity, had offered her a broom when they learned she didn't have one, an act of pure kindness that left Elena speechless. So, when Alexandria - her tent mate from summer camp - offered to organise a surprise party, she didn't hesitate.
The two girls had done an amazing job. Strings of light were hanging across the courtyard, casting an ethereal glow over everything. Vines and ivy curled around pillars, and freshly picked flowers rested in a jar. A banner welcomed those who entered the chosen place, wishing Cass a happy birthday in shimmering letters. The table held home to various drinks and snacks, and in the center stood a gorgeous green and silver cake, "Happy Birthday Cass" spelled in white icing on top. Elena allowed herself a small, satisfied smile before turning towards Alexandria.
"Totally !" She agreed. Her friend's smile was contagious, as if happiness was twirling in the air, bringing a wave of excitement over anyone who stood nearby. While Alex was nervously checking the time, Elena knelt to carefully put a bag underneath the table. She had struggled for a long time choosing the perfect gift. They were from a wealthy pureblood family, so she wanted something heartfelt, something only she could give.
The idea had come to her over breakfast, as she was thinking about their first meet. Pancake thief. With a delighted smile, she had sent an owl to her parents, asking them to fetch a pancake plushie. It came by owl the other day, and it looked ever cuter than what Elena had imagined, round and soft. Carefully wrapping it in a green and silver bag, she added a handwritten letter before closing it. It wasn't grand, but she knew Cass would care about the attention. As Alexandria stated the time, the blonde girl turned around, searching for any new arrivals. "We said five, right ?" She asked, glancing towards her even though she knew the answer. "Everything looks perfect, we just need to wait for them."
While waiting, she touched up some of the glasses and snacks on the table. "I really hope they'll be happy," she grinned towards her friend. "They deserve it." When the Gryffindor mentionned their other friend Aston, Elena nodded excitedly. "Totally ! Maybe we could do something in the astronomy tower ? Or other places ?"
Snatching a candy from the table, she tried to think of all the possibilities. "You look lovely, by the way." She said, smiling at Alex, who was wearing an adorable bright pink dress. Alex always looked lovely, she thought, like a flower in full bloom. Peaking at her watch, she watched the minutes fly by. The guests would arrive any minute.
Today's the day.
