Across The Sea Solo

On a particularly stormy day, when Wren was feeling more homesick than ever, a thought came to mind. She knew what would cheer her up. She was going to write to Cammie.

Camille, or Cammie, was Wren’s cousin and best friend. At least, she had been her best friend. They’d grown up together, baked together, and gotten in plenty of trouble together. Until the year before, they both thought they’d be going to school together too. But it seemed like life had other plans.

As Wren climbed the many steps to the Owlery, she thought about what she’d tell her cousin. So much had happened since she’d last written a few months ago- for one, she’d started Hogwarts. She really didn’t know why she hadn’t written sooner. No matter what, no matter how far away they might be, she didn’t want to let their friendship slip away.

After reaching the Owlery, she pulled out a quill and parchment and began to write.
Dear Cammie,

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since we last saw each other. I miss you so badly. I hope we can see each other this summer.

How are you? How is it at Ilvermorny? Which house are you in? I always wanted to be in Horned Serpent, like my mom, but my second choice would’ve been Thunderbird.

It’s been fun at Hogwarts. I’m in Ravenclaw. That was definitely my preference, though I’m not crazy about the common room door. To get in you need to answer a riddle, which can be fun, but more often it’s just annoying.

We’re taking flying lessons! How about you? I can’t wait for them to really take off (pun intended.) Maybe next time we see each other we can play a full Quidditch scrimmage with Jack and Melody.

Keep in touch! I sure hope this owl makes it all the way across the Atlantic.

Love,
Wren
