Haven's Hovel Cabin Closed

A modern masterpiece of construction if 'modern' was 1843. Four stories at the highest level, 'cabin'  was a misleading term to describe this lovely multi-leveled estate nestled behind a well maintained wrought iron fence. The building itself appeared to be in good repair, albeit old. The grey wooden sliding almost matched the dark grey slate shingles on the roof. It had to be an illusion, a sort of glamour that would fade once the great brass key was inserted into the lock, but no. Once the key was plunged into the door and the tumblers turned, there was no change in the facade of the 'cabin.'

For those that paid attention, looked at the cabin. Not the crows perches on the eaves, rather the windows. Through gossamer curtains, a dark silhouette could be discerned against a warm, flickering light. The air carried a pleasant scent, but the scent would seem out of place. This herbaceous scent -- burnt sage perhaps? That and what might be ...gasoline? The edifice itself would groan, while in good repair and a structure that did not sag, it almost seemed to speak as if it was disgusted with itself.

Erin was not paying attention. As far as she was concerned, everything was a trap and everything was dangerous. If she could feel fear, she would already be afraid. She did not need the mysterious, horror-esque atmosphere, the circumstances of this school were only reflected in this place without the glitter and the pomp and circumstance.

Erin strode in the 'cabin' with purpose. She would walk through each of the rooms, she was not looking for monsters but rather she was checking for another sort of devil -- plushy animals. Thankfully the place was clean of those demons. An internal sigh of relief.

The best part about summer camp was being able to spend quality time with close friends and live with them-- no matter their house! Bloom was very excited to see what cabins were open and she was hoping to be in a cabin with some of her friends such as Alexx, Dymphna, Serena or Reid. With pride, she went up to the cabin coordinator and smiled, "I'd like to be sorted into a cabin please. Preferrably with third years and with these people." Bloom handed the coordinator a list of names that she would be happy to cabin with.

The coordinator grabbed the list and gave the Ravenclaw student a small smile. "I'm sorry, they've either been placed into a full cabin or have not registered yet. But...," paused the coordinator as she was sifting through her papers filled with ongoing lists. "I have a cabin with an opening that you may like. I'll write your name down. It will be at the edge of the Forbidden Forest north of the castle. You won't miss it."

Saddened, Bloom nodded and made her way to the cabin that she was assigned to. Maybe it was okay to meet new friends. She needed it anyways. She wondered who she was going to spend the entire summer with. Bloom, walked towards the edge of the Forbidden forest north of the castle. When she got the location, she gulped to herself. This wasn't the cabin she thought she would be in. If anything, this cabin looked more like an eerie and haunted mini castle... Bloom was slightly terrified.

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad inside..., she thought, making her way to the front door while taking out her wand from her pockets and sturdily in her hands. She wondered who she would be paired with. Bloom, making it to the front door, looked left and right. She saw that there were spiders and the wooden porch that she was standing on was rickety.

Opening the unlocked door with her free hand, Bloom walked in hesitantly. She closed the door behind her and looked around. "Hello? Anyone here?" she asked, a bit too terrified to move from where she was.

Erin arrived before the others. The imposing structure might have been old but it was also grand, four stories at the highest point. She did not look behind her when she shut the door and with haste she took to the stairs. Her goal: to find the highest point in this 'cabin' and claim it as her own. It was instinct, to take the high ground.

She would ascend the stairs. Upon reaching the landing she would find a hall with five doors, all painted red but the paint was chipped and faded. The lighting was dim, an overhead candelabra projected a flickering illumination that causes the shadows to dance in an uncanny manner. At the end of the hall, a single dead plant in a chipped clay pot that rested upon a dusty black iron pedestal. Boring.

She would ascend the next flight and upon reaching the landing, she would find herself before a familiar scene. Another five doors, all of them red with simple brass doorknobs that seemed needlessly intricate. Down the hall, a dead plant that looked like some sort of fern in a cracked clay pot upon a nest of twisted iron. Huh.

She would ascend the next flight and upon reaching the landing, she would find herself before yet another familiar scene. Another five doors, all of them a faded cherry hue with intricately embossed brass doorknobs that seemed a bit tarnished. The hall terminated in a dead end with an equally dead plant in a broken clay upon its black iron throne. Weird.

Last floor she reasoned as she made her way up the stairs yet again, but the scene was the same when she reached the landing. It was the same. A sense of unease started to well up in her. Had she miscounted the floors. She looked up at the stairs, they continued upward. Five, there had to be five she tried to reassure herself. She trudged up the flight of stairs with a pair of suitcases in her hands. Upon reaching the top of the stair, she would see the one thing that she did not want to see. The same -- the five doors, that same damned dead plant. Erin would march down the hall and grab that clay pot from its stand and smash it on the floor. The clay would shatter and the dirt would spread over the floor.

She would look back at the stairs with a frown. Should she march up another flight of stairs? She walked over to the stairs, too stubborn to quit she would start to ascend. On the floor above, or the same floor, it was impossible to say, the scene was the same less the broken pot. There was a bit of relief when she saw the intact pot, the floors must be different she assured herself. But again this was not the final floor. She would not even try to conceal her confusion, there was nobody else here to hide it from.

She stomped loudly up another flight of stairs. She was getting that tower bedroom. She screamed when she reached that next floor. It was the same as the rest. This was rucking fidiculous! She stomped down the stairs from whence she came, rather than see the same five doors and dead plant she expected to come upon she found herself back on the first floor. The only difference, there was no front door. The front door that she had entered through. It was as if someone had punched her in the gut. It was a trap!

She tried to open the windows to no avail.

She wandered the rooms of the cabin -- a kitchen, a dining space, a pair of bathrooms, a shared living space and a few bedrooms. No other exits. She tried to open every window. She would wander back up the stairs, knowing that there was nothing past the second floor. At least no place she could reach. She made her home in the furthest door, closest to the dead plant that refused to stay broken. Her belongings oddly enough stayed when she wandered away, a part of her feared that they would not. She busied herself  trying to defeat her present adversary -- the eternal stairs.

She would hear Bloom enter, not that she knew it was Bloom but her ears would perk up -- someone was here. A part of her worried that it might be some fiend, perhaps even the death witches that the Ravenclaw warned her about. This might have been what ensnared the missing Hogwarts students. If she knew that it was a creature as innocuous as Bloom, that poor girl she tried to set up with that tool Marcus for the lawls. She would not recognize the Ravenclaw soon to be third year until it was too late.

"Hello? Anyone here?"

A voice called out. she recognized the voice. Bloom? Oh fook! Erin stumbled out of the bedroom she had claimed and dashed to the door. "Don't shut the door Bloom!" She shouted but she was too late. "Merlin, you doomed us!" Erin exclaimed, her hands on the sides of her head. As soon as Bloom shut the door, the door disappeared in a flash of light leaving behind a blank wall with a painting of a small door resembling the one they had come through in a tiny frame.

The inside of the cabin did not look any better than that of the outside. It was definitely on the list as a haunted house. The insides of the 'cabin' were dark, woody and old. It made Bloom question her safety just a tad bit. Bloom walked in a bit further to see what else is around. She was going to keep going when she heard a loud noise come from upstairs.

"Don't shut the door Bloom!"

Jumping from the sound, Bloom's heart was pounding nonstop. Was there someone already here? Was it a ghost? Was she doomed? Who knew. Her mind began to soar with as many creative outcomes as it could think of. How did the ghost... If it was a ghost... Know her name? It wasn't until she saw a familiar face coming up to her. It was none other than Erin Ryan, a Slytherin of her year. She remembered meeting her literally on the first day of school. It was one of Bloom's worst memories where she was accidentally jinxed by Marcus de Wynter and lost all of her hair. To Bloom, Erin was a part of it all.

"Merlin, you doomed us!"

Bloom left her mind and looked behind her. The door had vanished! Was that really her fault? How were they going to get out? Was she really going to be stuck with Ryan all summer? It then occurred to Bloom... How are they going to go do Summer Camp events? Are they literally stuck in the 'cabin' for all of summer? Will the Professors know that they are missing if they don't make it to all the events and activities? Bloom, for a long moment, felt bummed and terrified.

"I doomed us? I didn't know just as much you didn't know. And to be fair, you weren't waiting nearby to warn the next person coming in to not shut the door," Bloom said, angrily. Bloom took a deep breath and calmed herself down, taking her focus off of Erin and towards the entire room before her. It was dark and dusty.

"Is there anyone else in the cabin?" she asked, hoping there were others that she could spend time with. She hoped that some of her own friends were going to make it to her cabin-- the ones who did not apply yet. She could not see a whole summer being stuck with Erin, especially being stuck in the 'cabin'.

The train ride to Hogwarts had given Lark's anxiety plenty of time to wind her up into a frazzled mess. She had been excited when her father had dropped her off at the platform, but that feeling was long gone halfway through the ride here. The last couple hours had blurred from her mind as she tried to calm herself, fingers nervously wound in a strand of hair then drumming against her right leg.

Am I going to be the only first year? What if I am... Man.. everyone else is going to have friends already and I'll just be there like a lump. She thought to herself causing another nervous twitch of her fingers. Attending Hogwarts in the coming year would have been one thing when she was in a whole herd of first years, but she could be the only one here... sure maybe it would give her a better footing to start on... still. Lark groaned trying not to work herself up again.

At least with this heat she hadn't been forced into wearing the standard black robes required at Hogwarts. She had managed to talk her parents into a simple tee and shorts getup, well mainly her father as still her mother seemed too preoccupied with her pregnancy to notice much of anything else these days...

Lark adjusted the worn leather knapsack from digging into her shoulder blades. She had managed to cram every last bit of drawing implement she could think she may need into it even sacrificing a couple extra pairs of shorts in her trunk that dragged behind her. How much further... She groaned as she stopped to take a quick breath. Being a first year she had thought that someone would've taken her to the assigned cabin for the summer, but most of the adults she had run into gave her a kind smile and directions of some sort. Either way... it had to be close. Lark trudged forward and looked up to finally see a building in the distance.

"It doesn't look... that bad! I thought cabin like... cabin, cabin... This will be so much better!" Rambling to herself she hurried closer and closer. She had been camping plenty of times with her family when she was younger and usually it consisted of a more... muggle style tent. They had always been more outdoorsy so why not take advantage of actual camping versus... well let's face it, fancy 'it's bigger on the inside' magic camping. Lark continued forward feeling much more relieved about how this summer would go. Getting to the iron fence she stopped short not realizing the sheer size of the building until she was now face to face with its enormous.... rather..... intimidating size and... She swallowed hard.

"Well... Can't judge a book by its cover." She heard her mother's words fly from her mouth as she tightened her hold on her trunk, pulling it closer to her. This place would have to do until she was sorted and in one of the famous house dormitories. She pulled off a strap from her bag and swung it in front of her so she could dig out her Hogwarts letter. Maybe a professor was in there and she may need to show them just in case they hadn't known about her arrival for the summer.

Leaning to one side she tried to peer into the window through the curtains to see if anyone was even in there. Was that movement? Maybe she could catch them before they headed out to the campgrounds! Lark fumbled with the door hoping to greet whoever was inside.

"Hello! Is any-" Before she could get another word out Lark's foot caught in the door jam sending her stumbling forward, her trunk which she had been fiercely holding onto rammed into the back of her ankles sending her careening towards the floor before she was snatched back, her bag's loose strap having caught on the door handle and slamming it shut.

Sitting on the floor her legs flung over the trunk and knapsack hanging half over her shoulder, half on the door still Lark shook her head. She winced and blinked a couple times before her vision came into focus. Two other students stood not far from her. Great... I wonder how much of that they noticed..

OC: Sorry about the delay, I had a few messages from users stating they were interested in joining so I have been waiting on them but none of them seem to have showed.

IC:
Bloom Silverton, some bald weirdo from Ravenclaw. Marcus was a deviant asshole and she was his first victim. It was one of those very few moments that Erin did not deserve to be associated with, even if she added insult to injury shortly thereafter for the girl. She tried to warn Bloom but her cry was moments too late. The harried youth rushed down the stairs but it was too late.

"I doomed us? I didn't know just as much you didn't know. And to be fair, you weren't waiting nearby to warn the next person coming in to not shut the door,"

"Because I just got here too," Erin debated ignoring the fact that she made the very same mistake as Bloom. She had just been here long enough to discover the problem was deeper than a disappearing exit. "I can't believe you!" Yes, Erin was deflecting blame.

"Is there anyone else in the cabin?"

Erin shook her head side-to-side. Not that she knew of at least. "If someone was here already, we would not be stuck inside anymore!" She shouted. Too busy debating Bloom, she would not notice the new girl enter the cabin until it was too late.

"Hello! Is any-"

Erin would look towards the door, her mouth agape. She wanted to yell STOP as if the command would stop the girl from stumbling in and the door slamming behind her. She never got a chance to utter the word before she fell into the cursed cabin. "ARRRGGH!" Erin cried out in frustration. "Look at what you did!" Erin's accusatory gaze on Bloom.

If Lark looked behind her she would see it too. Well, not see it rather. The seams of the door and the doorknob itself were gone. behind them was nothing more than a blank wall. There was a small picture in a frame nailed to the otherwise blank wall of a door that looked a lot like the one that was once there, mocking them.

She needed to take a few breaths, think things over. Think. Think. Think. "Did you uhh... see anyone else out there?" A hint of hope in her voice as she asked Lark this question. "Another student? A professor?" Anyone else? There was no way she was going to spend her summer in here with a whiny dork like Bloom. Her first concern should be that she did not want to die in some cursed cabin but in this case it was that she did not want to have to waste her time with Bloom. She was in a dire need of rearranging her priorities.

"Look at what you did!"

Lark stared at the two girls before her. The older looking blue haired girl's stare seemed to be piercing into the other. This didnt seem to bode well... talk about tension. It wasn't the smaller girl's fault. Lark had been the one foolish enough to stumble. Plus, it really isn't that big of a deal was it?

"Did you uhh... see anyone else out there?...Another student? A professor?"

Getting to her feet Lark brushed off a hefty amount of dust from her jeans before giving her head a quick shake.

"N..No. I didn't see anyone else-" As she turned to pick up her bag which had spilled a couple pencils onto the floor, Lark noticed the doorway- or lack of.
'Wait, but I tripped on the...' She touched the wall and gave a scratch to the back of her head.

"But I just.." Her voice drifted off as she turned back to the other two. A trail of goosebumps spread along the back of her neck. Something felt wrong about all this.'Ok calm down..maybe it is just part of the whole Hogwarts mysterious magic stuff that was pretty normal.' Lark's Gran had told her about the changing stairways. This could be something similar yet still. Why would this happen during summer break? Without a professor? That girl had asked, obviously that meant there wasnt anyone else but them here.

"What the 'ell is going on??"
