Quidditch Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff - Fall 2024

Ethan looked around the pitch, squinting his eyes against the rain. Clutching his broom, he struggled to stay still in the gusty wind. “I can hardly see anything,” he muttered as he wiped the rain from his eyes. “Okay team, take a look at that weather and see what you see!” he called out with his eyes narrowed to the clouds above. “I see victory, my friends!” Ethan bellowed, lifting his bat above his head. “We've dealt with worse than a little bit of rain! Let's show these guys what we're made of and leave them soaked on the ground!” He tried not to think how soaked he would be after the game. Maybe some hot cocoa and a warm fire would make the situation a little more bearable... Or at the very least, keep him from catching a cold.

Another year had gone by and now she was in her third year as a Hufflepuff student and a Quidditch player. She got the notification of the match the same way as always except now Howard wasn't the captain. He had graduated from Hogwarts and now they had a new captain. Avery was now the captain and started off with a speech. She cheered in agreement and was excited for the new game the first of the year against Gryffindor. Lions versus Badgers, but they had beated the mighty king of the jungle before and Rosette was certain if everything goes as planned they could do so again. She was soon off to the Quidditch pitch, awaiting the whistle to take off. The reason welcomed them yet she wasn't exactly too worried about it though it would complicate things. She was first string chaser and loved every moment of the challenge on the field. The whistle shrieked out, Rosette pushed off to fly in position as she raised up to help with her teammates against Gryffindor, a look of determination on her face.

Quaffle

The game began, but instead of the usual chaotic mess of chasers scrambling for the quaffle, only one from each team went for it.
Finnegan, a certain Star Seeker's favorite footrest, held a commanding lead over Eugenia when it came to the Quaffle. He got it four out of five times, but Atlas was no slouch when it came to being a Keeper. He only managed to get the Quaffle past her twice.

Seekers

How in the flying shit anyone was supposed to see the Snitch in this weather was anyone's guess. The Absolutely-Not-Irish announcer wondered if even he would be able to. But, sure enough, both seekers seemed to lock onto it at the same time!
The announcer kept quiet about it, because that would ruin the fun. Let the teams and audience see it for themselves.

Avery dodged Alejandro's blatch, only barely.

But that was not the end of the depravity. No, Alyssea had to get in on the cheating too, and blatch Ethan. Ethan did not have the dodging ability of Avery, it seems. Alyssea sent him flying off his broom. But nothing could escape the Falcon Eyes of the announcer.

"Alyssea! Yer not slick, luv! That's cheatin', innit! Penal'y lap! Ge' to it!"

Quick as a whip, Wren swooped down and caught Ethan. The boy was saved, and might be able to clinch them the match.

"Noice save by Wren! Well done, lad!"

	Cheating is an art Alyssea hasn't quite yet perfected. To be fair, she started out in a sport (duelling) that didn't have any cheating rules since it didn't have any cheating opportunities to begin with. Cheating in racing is lenient and sometimes, Alyssea forgets it exists. Setting off on her penalty lap, Alyssea hummed, also noting just how many people were falling out of the sky. She grimaced. Yikes.

Jess was beyond glad that she'd had the foresight to ask one of the third years to cast Impervius on her glasses. Otherwise, no matter how hard she squinted up at the chaos unfolding in the sky, she would have been forced to spend her time furiously wiping her glasses.

Although hardly watching from the optimal viewing point, Jess was more than used to following high-speed Quidditch matches, and her eyes darted from player to player, taking in the action above. Two goals for Gryffindor, both seekers with their sights set on the Snitch, and...

Jess recoiled in shock as she watched Eugenia tumble off her broom and plummet to the ground. Thump. Jess winced in sympathy; Pax, one of the Gryffindor beaters, had absolutely obliterated her. Luckily, the boggy grass was a much more suitable landing pad than it would usually have been.

It took Jess another second to understand the gravity of the situation. Huh, she chuckled to herself awkwardly, a bit too much gravity around here, if you ask me. That's when it dawned on her. Eugenia's off, so that leaves two chasers, and... Jess looked up, as if coming out of a daze. Me. I have to play... I GET TO PLAY!

Jess tried to contain her emotions out of respect for Eugenia's pain, but it was a difficult task as she practically buzzed with excitement. Looking around at her fellow benched players, Daphne, Landon and Sage, Jess jumped onto her feet and grabbed her broom into her hands. "Well, I'm off! See you on the pitch, hopefully! Oh wait... don't think I should be hoping for that... Never mind, got to go!"

Jess confidently strode away from the bench, and straddled her broom. She had barely noticed what was going on in the match, but just as she was about to take off, there was no mistaking the gasp of horror from the Hufflepuff crowd as none other than Ethen, their seeker, joined Eugenia on the ground. We really are in a state, aren't we? And how come no one from Gryffin-?

Before Jess could even finish her thought, an extraordinary sequence of events took place in front of her; one of the Gryffindor beaters was on his way to the ground after having been bludgered by Avery, and despite the same treatment from Tesla, Alejandro, one of the Gryffindor chasers, just barely clung to his broom. Unfortunately for Tesla, her bad luck didn't stop as she was sent tumbling by the other Gryffindor beater. Finally, the Gryffindor keeper received the whopping of a lifetime, and landed on the ground as well. It was a task enough for Jess to dodge the falling bodies, but she decided that enough was enough.

Morbidly glad to see that the playing field had been evened out slightly, Jess took off to join her teammates in the sky. She waved at the crowd, beaming, but apparently everyone was slightly more preoccupied by the blatant cheating from Alyssea and Alejandro. Avery had managed to avoid Alejandro's blatching, but Alyssea more than got Ethan, except... did one of the chasers just catch him? Impressive...

Even though Alyssea was made to do a penalty lap with Alejandro, and the rain had far from ceased its endless battering of the players, Jess was feeling more hopeful now. Come on, she whispered to herself with gritted teeth, bracing herself against the cold that was very quickly soaking through the uniform to her skin. We can do this.

Well crap. Just as Sage was really getting into the game and relaxed on the bench, Tesla fell, putting Sage in the game. She grabbed her broom and nodded at the others on the bench. "Wish me luck," she mumbled. She joined the rest of the players in the sky.

Geez, this was intense. The Gryffindor beaters were tough. She tightened her grip on her bat and practiced a quick swing with it. Best she could do was keep from falling out of the sky.

Landon watched with wide eyes as the game began. As to be expected, Gryffindor came out swinging, but Hufflepuff also put up a great fight. Landon watched as both teams lost members due to the tactics of the other team. It was a bit overwhelming and he always grimaced when people fell from their brooms. He worried about their injuries and things like that.

Landon waited on the bench for the next bit of the match, grateful again that he wasn't being called out onto the pitch but also a little disappointed at the same time. He didn't want to always be on the bench but he was happy that Atlas was still playing and that she was so good at what she did. Landon watched as Alyssea took her penalty lap but then turned his attention to the match at hand.

"20 points! Woooohooo!!!!" I yell as the scores tilt towards Gryffindor. The roars of the lion-hearts soared louder and louder!

I could barely keep myself attached to the bench. With several KOB's and both the teams succeeding in finding the snitch, the stakes were at an all time high!

The rain poured as heavily as it could, soaking my hair and bearing down my hooded dress. I simply forgot to wear my hood in this weather, given that a game was on with me in the team. And my first game at that! Well, the weather can be overlooked, but the match must go on!

As the game begun, its usual chaos was fully complimented by the weather. While wanting to keep an eye on her teammates, she knew she would need to stay focused on her goals. With the water, catching or defending against the quaffles would be significantly more difficult. She always had confidence in her abilities but that didn't mean it was impossible for her to make a mistake.

It wouldn't take long for Gryffindor's offense to test that skill as she redied herself. The first attempt was simple enough to defend and Atlas immediately reclaimed her position. While the second strike came on faster, Atlas' hands remained true and her posts remained free. However, the attack remained constant. She felt slightly out of position as the next quaffle came sailing toward her. Just missing it, she let out an irritated curse and wiped some of the water from her face.

Lowering herself to catch another sailing quaffle, Atlas knew she had moved too late. Another ten points scored against her brought a growl of frustration. Shaking her head, Atlas tried to settle her mind and frustration. There was still plenty of game to play and if she got in her head earlier, it wouldn't remotely help out the team.

Keepers Catch
10% chance to automatically block an attempt to score a goal as long as the Keeper is in the goal area. If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may as a free action hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice (it would be recovered with a quaffle grab action) and treated like a bludger or pass the quaffle to a team mate. This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Evasive Maneuvers
Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separately from the attack roll.
