P R O P H E C Y | П Р О П Х Е Ц Ы Olesya's birth date is one of the most taboo dates in the Russian calendar, for it is both the 13th day and it is during Svyatki, a time between Russian Orthodox Christmas (7th) and Epiphany (19th); this is considered a magical and dangerous period where it is believed the veil between the world of the living and the spirit world is thinnest, a time where evil spirits and restless souls wander freely. Whistling indoors, looking into a mirror after dusk and walking along at night were all considered especially unlucky during this time. Unbeknownst to her, Olesya's birth was prophecized and recorded within the appropriate department of the Russian equivalent of the Ministry of Magic, which chose to withhold this information from Markova's family. It was foreseen by Yelena Voronina, a celebrated Seer who was known for several notable auspications, and it read as follows: "Beware the one born under the thirteenth moon of winter. Touched by both light and shadow she comes, a harbinger of a long night. When restless souls walk; the coming of the mare, her cry will pierce the air. A great cursed gift, beyond sight and through it the world will know truths it would rather forget. Her path brings storm, not salvation for darkness hides within her steps and those that seek her aid may find more than they bargained for."

N O T O R I E T Y | Н О Т О Р И Е Т Ы Olesya Markova, was born to two privileges, to two birth rights. She was the daughter of a family blessed with favour within the Motherland, and she was of an esteemed lineage of Witches blessed with foresight. Strange was a quality she exuded from a young age. Personally, she had an uncanniness about her mannerisms as if she was always somewhere else, or somewhere just ahead of you. She was an aberrant mind and always had been, but that slowly began to manifest as being mean when she couldn't understand why people weren't too accepting of her. In her academic work, her gifts and memory were sharp and helped her attain some good grades; particularly in areas of esoteric interest, like the Dark Arts; but she excelled most in Durmstrang's rigorous physical education, and was prodigious on a broom. Though she was odd, Asya was no outcast. Many had described her as a siren, luring people in with her aberrant ways; there was always someone thinking they could out-do her, or fix her. Little did they know that just as the siren, she was armed with malevolent intent. Drawn near, she might obtain that which she needed and wanted. A partner to learn from or a person to impress, whatever whimsy she had fancied; she always had a foot on the next rung of the ladder before she'd settled on the one she just reached, she always wove a path of ruthlessness in getting what she wanted and that often meant hurt feelings.

P E R S O N A L I T Y | П Е Р С О Н А Л И Т Ы From a young age, Olesya Markova developed an air of detached curiosity and this made her appear distant and unsettling to others, but she embraced her strangeness rather than shying away from it. Drive and her ambitions of mastery makes her a formidable figure, it also isolates her, leaving her with few true confidants. Her sharp intelligence, tempered with a deep connection to the mystical forces of augury present as calculation; rarely acting without considering the consequences or future implications and complications. As such, she displays an uncanny ability to manipulate those around her—whether through charm or fear. Despite this, Olesya is not driven solely by malice; her motivations are centered around the desire for control and understanding.

FIOM BRUSH WITH DEATH ──────────────── Reducio Aged 8, Olesya had her first instance of magic during a family holiday to Lake Baikal, where her family had stayed in a chalet style holiday home with various amenities like an indoor gym, sauna, pool and so on. Olesya was not a confident swimmer but had been unattended for a few moments, but that was all it took for panic and dread to set in. Once Olesya started to lose composure, she began to drop below the waterline. Each kick a growing struggle, each breath a limited purchase of life. It hadn't helped when the pool began to freeze over her sinking head. She was quickly rescued by her father and has since had a fear of water.

APPEARANCE HAUNTED ──────────────── Reducio Olesya Markova's face is angular; her nose slim, her brows and jaw as sharp as the cheekbones that framed her icy blue eyes. Pale as a ghost, Olesya has been told that she herself was a bad omen, espeically with the context of her birth for she inexplicably has an aura of a spirit that died long ago and has returned to the earth; the kind that drivers would claim to see hitch-hiking at the side of a rural road, at the dead of night.

BACKGROUND AUSPICE ──────────────── Reducio Born to a notable Russian family, Olesya Markova grew up in a position of relative wealth (or as much as one could have in Russia). She had never been without and she was not sheltered from experiences; The Markova's were an old pureblood line, with deep roots in Russian folklore and legend, with Asya's maternal side heralding from the Sybilline Far-Seers of Rus, a long line of seers that have dedicated their lives to reading and recording prophecies (rumoured to have come from the Oracles of Ancient Greece). Asya was raised along with all the other pureblood girls of her station; learning the classics, of ballet, or art; even after the signs of magic revealed themselves within them until school age, for that was the custom. It was also the custom for these cadre's of society's future stars were raised with healthy competition, so in their private schooling and in every aspect of their pre-secondary teaching, they were put in competitive positions. Ballet had the focus of being the slimmest, the most beautiful, the most gracious; the best. Their two chosen instruments were much the same, with students competing for excellence and favour in fear of letting down their strict headmistriss and missing the chance of winning prized positions in societal events; wizarding recitals and stage performances observed by prominent figures. Her early life was regimented and focused, and her teen years were going to be much the same.
