Oliver had gone through the day like normal. Gone to classes, answered any and all questions he knew. Got frustrated at his wand for not casting spells like he wanted to. Ate some good enough food at the great hall, he liked the options for no meat dishes, yet the food at home would always prove superior. He decided that now would be a good time to try and relax. Before dinner latter in the night.
And what better way to relax then homework? So Ollie had went down to his dorm to grab himself a bit of it, he had pushed his transfiguration homework off for a day or two and it was eating him alive. He grabbed that and put it in his bag, Otis was also there so he patted his leg. Calling Otis to follow him. "Come Otis, just remember to behave." He told the cat. Knowing how adventurous and curious he could get.
He decided some fresh air was in need so he had walked out to the courtyard after having to climb all the way back up from the Slytherin common room. Carrying Otis for much of the trek. Once up he set him down and gave him a few pets from his head to his tail, before walking to a bench that sat under a tree. He liked this one, As he could sit someplace dry, and out of the sun. Without need of sitting on the ground. He didn't mind sitting on the ground all of the time, just liked to avoid it if and when possible. As one never did know what was on the ground, lurking under the dirt.
Once he sat down, he got right to work. Looking at his notes, comparing knowledge from class, what the professor had said, and information from the books to of course. All precautions to ensure that Oliver got the right answer down the first time. And didn't risk getting more then one point off. Though even missing one question was quite rare for the Slytherin.
He'd only managed to get through half the questions before Otis started something. Even though he didn't do much. The cat could still be a bother to some. Ollie had looked up from his work to see his cat sniffing the leg of some girl. One Oliver didn't quite recognize. Though thought she might be in Hufflepuff. The girl had brown hair, and the leg Otis was sniffing at, looked to be a prosthetic. Oliver had not really seen many of those around.
Growing up strictly around wizards, any and most injurious that would be a cause for amputation would be cured by magic. Keeping the limb in tact. Only in very rare situations would a wizard need to have a limb removed. Like dark magic. Oliver stood up and grabbed his cat. Looking at the girl, with a hit of distaste on his sharp features. His family was an old and rich pure blooded one. That did look down on muggles and those with non-magic blood. Even if they were half breeds. Only pure human wizards could gain and Armani's full respect.
"What's your blood status?" He bluntly asked. Needing to know if he should even bother apologizing for his cat bothering her. He was petting him in his arms. Otis looking on the girl with curiosity, as if he just wanted her to pet him. Otis did love attention. Oliver's eyes darted to her leg, then back up to her face. He didn't really care that she was missing one, it wasn't a big deal to him. No he was more consider about the fact she might not be pure. If she was, he would apologize and be on his marry way. And wonder why she didn't get the leg grown back or something like that.

wc- 242Sage wanted to be very clear on one thing: she normally did not almost kick cats. Okay, maybe she should back up.
October 16th. Sixteen days after she became Prefect of Hufflepuff. She was still pretty surprised she had been chosen, but grateful without a doubt. But she was in desperate need of clearing her head from everything.
The courtyard was a nice shelter for her. The fall air was crisp against her skin, a gentle breeze blew through her hair. It would be a mess by the time she went back inside. She paused to tie her hair back in a bun.
The courtyard seemed to be mostly empty besides one boy and a cat. She didn't pay them much mind, just as long as they weren't getting up to mischief. That was when the cat wandered over and began smelling her leg. Startled, she nearly tripped over the cat. Once she recognized it was only a cat, she smiled and reached down to pet him, although she knew her own cat wouldn't be happy to find her smelling her like another cat.
She stopped when the boy that had been in the courtyard spoke up. Her smile fell right off her face. What did blood status have to do with any- oh. Yeah, she saw him glancing at her leg. She crossed her arms tight across her chest. She didn't have anything to hide from him.
"Half-blood." she said simply.

The response he got back from her was blunt. Just as blunt as his question. Something he could respect. It was the actual answer that threw what little respect about the delivery down the drain, half blood, One magical parent, and one muggle. At least there was at least a little bit of wizarding blood in her. He let out a hum. "Well.. that's, something" He said to her. Tone, well confused. And almost a hint of pity there, a lot of it was just full of pain old judgment.
His parents ideals had gone to there children. And since Oliver was his parents child, he thought about the same way they did about most things. Blood status was a big one. All muggles were looked down on. They thought that children of muggles were lesser witches or wizards because of the lack of any magic in there heritage. That the magic they cast would always be weaker then a spell that a pure blood could cast.
This was of course, a complete lie. And not at all factual. But it was the Armani thinking nonetheless. He didn't know this girls name, based on looks he could assume she was older then him if only slightly, he had but a vague idea on her house, and by no means was he aware of her prefect status. If he was, he might have chosen his words a bit more carefully or at lease changed his tone to one not filled to the brim of judgment. "How-" He paused petting Otis a bit more in his arms, thinking of the way to put it. "Sad for you." Yes, sad.
Any magic that one of the girls parents must have given her was tainted and perhaps watered down by the muggle blood provided by the other. Poor thing must not be good at casting spells. "I can only imagine what having a muggle for a relative is like." He shook his head like it was one of the worst things in the world. "Almost as bad as a squib really." Of course the Armani tradition of putting the Hogwarts acceptance letter on the wall chased any chance of that happing to one of them away.
Every word Oliver spoke, it was full of that stuck up rich pure blood kid energy. Like he was better then her just because his whole family had been wizards for generations upon generations. Her response did confuse him a bit though, if at least one of her parents was a wizard, then that must mean that there was a magical mean of growing her leg back. Unless... "Oh! Your other parent must be a squib then?" He questioned, if he could recall right for some odd reason squib parents still counted as magical. Even with there lack of ability to cast magic. That must be the only explanation.

wc- 257It felt like a punch to the gut. Sad? Sage had never once felt sad about her blood status. Maybe brief moments of displeasure, but never sadness or anger. Oh, but she was for sure angry about how this kid was choosing to accept that knowledge.
"What are you? A first year, I'll guess. Probably Slytherin too. I take it you haven't learned much about respect then, have you?" She paused, but didn't leave him time to reply. "Well I'm a big one for respect, I'll have you know. Disrespect me and see where that lands you."
She didn't move to leave the courtyard yet. Part of her was itching he'd release the error of his prejudiced pure blood ways and apologize, or he'd wind up in a detention. She waited with her arms crossed and a bitter expression. And then he began knocking down her Muggle relatives. Honestly, she hated most of them too, awful annoying things, but it had nothing to do with their blood status.
"You'd be surprised how awful it is. And how none of it has anything to do with their blood status."
And then the worst of it came, the part she had been through too much. She stepped closer to him and pointed a finger in his face. "Dad's a Muggle; one of the worst I ever met because of how much he hates witches. Mum was the best witch I knew- not a squib." She paused again to breathe through her anger. "You done demeaning my blood status, kid?"

How dare she assume he was in the Slytherin house! It was true, but he hated it. Made it feel like she thought he belonged there. Even though he rightfully should be in Gryffindor. Not Slytherin. "I'll have you know, I only respect people who deserve it." He responded with a small huff. She did not deserve his respect. Frist for her blood status. And secondly because she correctly guessed his house.
He scoffed when she said what almost sounded like a threat of sorts. 'disrespect me and see where that lands you.' Oh please, who did she think she was. Some sort of Prefect? Even if she was one, witch he had major doubts on, he wouldn't respect her much anyways. Her blood status alone was sure of that. Then she might as well have put the nails in the coffin with the whole Slytherin thing. He was being petty, he knew it. He didn't care.
"that, that does surprise me." He said with an eye roll, like he didn't believe that her words were true. It had to be because he was a muggle, after all. Shortly after she said that she made the claim her mom was the best witch. And the older girl had been sure to note she was not a squib. So, at least she had that going for her. "Lucky for me, My family's all pure. Nothing tainted." He said it smugly, proud of his status.
She asked if he was done 'demeaning' her blood. He wouldn't go that far. Really, "I really is far from my fault if you can't handle a little bit of truth." He thought he was being, well- not nice. He knew that much, but then again. The truth could be rude at times. "Don't worry, I'm sure it will all work out in the end. I'm sure you can find a nice desk job once you graduate, that doesn't need much spell work at all." He told her plainly with a nod.

wc- 350Each time the hateful child spoke, Sage's hands shook a bit more and fury replaced any Hufflepuff values she had gained. Who did he think he was, telling her all that pure-blood crap she was sick and tired of?
"Have you ever known- and I mean truly known- a muggle-born or half-blood? There's nothing about us that makes us weaker. We deserve respect just as much as the rest of the wizarding population. You're just relying on myths," she said through clenched teeth.
She tightened her hands into fists and shifted her weight from one foot to the other. She felt like she was breathing in smoke, burning, prejudiced smoke. Her vision went maroon for a second. She wasted no time raising her voice to yell,
"'Tainted'? You really have the nerve to say that my blood line is tainted all because my mum loved my dad? What a load of absolute crap."
She glanced at the cat the boy was holding. She couldn't help but wonder if it had the same thoughts as its owner. Was that even possible? She knew people were influenced every day by the people they were surrounded by; was it the same for cats? She pulled herself out of wondering about if cats could be prejudiced when he had the nerve to bring up her future.
"It is going to work out for me. And I'm not going to be sitting at some desk like you think; I'm going to be a healer. Yes, I can do spells. Yes, I can make potions. Frankly, my future will be the same no matter what you think. Why waste my potential by worrying about what one jerk thinks?"
It took all her self-control to keep calm. She was just as much a witch as any one else, right? She would be able to become a healer even if a future employer thought the same as this kid? Was her future really relying on what one person would think of her, what a whole blood-line would think of her?
She could have more potential than that, right?

No, why would he try to get to know one? When he was clearly better, that and his family really tried to avoid them at all costs. That after all was the reason they lived in the all wizarding village of Hogsmeade. Sure muggle borns and half bloods still lived there. But at least they had some magic. Somehow. He didn't get how or why, but the risk of running into a pure muggle was none. How the Armani's liked it. He was not a fan of her calling his world view a 'myth' but he held back from making a comment. Like he should have the whole time. He had somewhat of a big mouth. And didn't know when to stop.
He rolled his eyes, this time not stopping the comment. "Who knows why, as for one you claim he is the worst muggle ever." He said to her, pausing for only a moment. Perhaps to let his words sink in. "And two, muggles are simply inferior, no magic to help with the medial tasks, but I suppose that may just be what muggles are good for." He shrugged, giving it no extra thought to his rude comments.
When she said her ambitions he actually scoffed. A healer? Of all things, a healer? Ok- that was a respectable position, tragically he could not lie about that. He took a deep breath though. "My grandfather is always telling me that the only respectable jobs are those in the ministry." It was what his parents had, what they were pushing his brother to get, and Oliver figured sooner or later himself as well. "You know, the meaningful ones. Lawyers, and aurrors." Again, his tone was one of smug arrogance. As if he was simply better.
"Call me a jerk all you want, it wont change your blood status."

wc- 294Sage itched to run away. From this kid, this blood purist, all the crap she was hearing. She didn't though. Holding her ground, she noted the roll of his eyes. Her silence broke.
"Inferior? Really. If you think magic is the only way to do things, maybe you're weak. Ever think that way? Using magic to wash dishes, mend a tear, muggles use none of that, they are strong enough to be able to handle a bit of work. Are you?"
Sage had no problem defending muggles. She had never had a bad experience with muggles, besides her father. But that was different.
The muggles that had helped her back when she lost her mum, those were the types of muggles this kid needed to be exposed to. Magic could easily fix most things wrong for wizards and witches, but Sage admired how muggles simply persevered through it.
She grimaced at his scoff, flinching when he undermined her future job. Then she exploded. "Tell me, are lawyers working round the clock to save the lives of the doomed? If a loved one of yours was dying, would you call a lawyer to save them? No, you'd call a healer unless your common sense is as stupid as your thoughts of muggles."
Before Sage could stop herself, she burst into laughter. "Oh my God," she muttered, putting her hands over her face and laughing into them. Oh my God! You actually have the nerve to think I'd rather be some snobby pure-blood then a half-blood? See," she paused to point at him, "I don't actually mind being a half-blood. It's not ruining my life or my ability to do magic. Like, your cat can't do magic; I don't see you judging it as any less."
