An eventful meeting... PV: Cass Ito Closed

One could say he was here for some light reading. The pile of books by his side was saying otherwise. Anything from recorded great witches and wizards, to spell books and potions recipes. At first glance someone wouldn't even be able to tell what he was even researching here. To be fair he was researching...everything to some extent.

But more importantly, he was researching the whole...seer situation. Since he had no control over it, and as far as he noticed it would be a while until he even learns to control this, it was best to just try to document oneself on that. Oh and he may or may not have taken notes of the grounds of Hogwarts....and the Forbidden Forest. Ever since he saw it from the common room he was curious what was there. Sure Eric knew it was not a place he should go to, or that he was allowed to go to, but that didn't change much what was obvious childish curiosity.

Nonetheless the study on the topography of the grounds and the special talent was also put on hold as he was reading from a book..."The tales of Beedle the Bard". His parents used to tell him those stories before, since the book was aimed for young witches and wizards - popular as bedtime stories among wizarding families. And yet even knowing most of the stories already, he was focused on this now rather than the stack of books that almost hid him from view here.

After a while, when he was done with that as well he took the books back before looking around for more. He had the free time for that, with him not having classes for the next few hours. So Eric had quite a bit of time to invest in this. Because in terms of exploring, he has already done exploring enough with most of the places a first year could get to already having been found out by him to some extent or another.

It was far to early in the year for this. Cass normally only made the trek to the library in like the week before exams, in line with their strategy of put-things-off-as-long-as-humanly-possible. And it worked! No annoying homework or that studying stuff for most of the year, and just a few all-nighters at the end of it! Very boring ones though. Cass normally stayed up most of the night anyway. Sleep was for the weak. And dreams were for sad little children who were still opening and closing the door to their mothers room like it could bring her back. Cass was not sad. They were happy and alive and free and had so many amazing friends and they were fine thank you, fine.

Shaking their head around like a wet dog to clear their thoughts (as if they would slide off as easy as water did), they remembered why they had come here in the first place. It was certainly not to read books or do anything like studying. They had been bored, once again. No one seemed to be around in the common room for them to bug, and they couldn't find any of their friends anywhere. How dare they all run off like that! They better not be doing anything fun like exploring secret passages or anything fun without them. In fact, Cass hadn't found one single secret passage since arriving at the school, which sucked. It was why they were in the library. They weren't desperate to do anything like open a book to look for them quite yet, but surely there had to be something hiding around the maze of shelves. Cass normally avoided the place like the plague, so they hadn't really checked before. So now was the perfect time!

They entered the place, nose twitching from the terrible smell of books. There was a pile of books on a table in the corner that looked like it had been there for centuries. Who needed that many books? It seemed like a good place to start. It had to be hiding something. Now the books were moving! No they weren't. It was a boy. Putting them away. Had he been reading all of those? Was he okay? There was almost enough books that if you stacked them all up into a pile they would be taller than him. Scary stuff. "Are you feeling okay?" they asked "Why do you have that many books? Did someone cast a spell on you? Do you need me to perform the counter-charm?". It didn't even occur to them that this could just be an ordinary boy who liked books.

He was a bit taken aback. Why would he not be alright? Though to be fair, it didn't really cross Eric's mind that the fellow student would refer to how many books he had gone through. "Yes...I think I am? Are you?" he asked eventually blinking a few times the surprise still very much evident as he finished putting away the last of the books taking a few more again. "No one cast any spell on me, thouogh if you were to show me how the counter-charm works, I wouldn't mind learning it for future use if I will need it." He knew they would learn it eventually as well, but what harm would it be in trying to get some advice from other students?

As he continued to look through the shelf and the books started to move towards him as he picked a few more he took a seat again at a table putting down those books. Mostly were on divination. Something a first year wouldn't even know or learn about. And well of course he didn't understand most of what it was written there since it was meant for students who already had basics in the other subjects laid out. And also it was written in a sense that older students would read it.

But he understood enough of what he wanted to know as far as he was concerned. He looked a bit at the fellow student. Should he ask? He felt bad just "ignoring" them though to be fair he was not really doing that, he did answer them after all. "Do you wanna join or something?" he asked eventually, some awkwardness being sensed in his tone. Hey he didn't want to be impolite, or come across as mean. Didn't mean he was the most sensible and perceptive in terms of social things...such as the fact that the slytherin was very much worried about the quantity of books, so it was also unlikely they would partake in such an activity that had piles of information stacked higher and higher on the table now. But who knew? Maybe that would happen...maybe it wouldn't.

Nerd boy looked a bit surprised. Who knew what about. It was a perfectly reasonable question. Normal people simply didn't carry around that many books. Whatever devious spell that had affected him, they would help save him! No one deserved a fate like that. Reading was a curse all on its own, in their opinion. They had never found it very easy. "Of course I am" they replied. They weren't the one acting weird here. It was clear that they weren't carrying around ridiculous amounts of books.

They shrugged. "I'm sorry I don't think I know the nerd counter charm yet" they said "they probably only teach it to older years". It didn't even occur to them that this statement could possibly be taken as offensive. They meant it with the greatness kindness. Peering curiously at the titles of the books, they only saw more boring. After some squinting they spotted the word "omens" and other fun words like "predicting". Was this all divination books? Couldn't you not even take divination till third year? This boy was absolutely not okay. He needed to get outside and have some fun. The library air was probably affecting his brain.

"Have you... been outside recently?" they asked cautiously. Then they sort of waved to all the books. "What are you even..." they cringed like saying the word physically hurt them "studying for anyway?". Was there some new exam coming up that they didn't know about? That one was actually very possible. Cass barely paid any attention in any class that wasn't flying. They almost fell over when he asked if them if they wanted to join. What kind of question was that? Of course they didn't! But they had to be polite. These books might be the only thing this poor boy had. "No thank you" they said "do you want to come outside or something?".

Frankly he didn't even take it as offensive. It was either surprisingly difficult to annoy him, or he really just understood quite easily that his fellow student was just being direct in showing their kindness. Others may have found it as a bit of a backhanded kindness, but to him it was all the same regardless.

"I don't think I need a nerd counter charm yet." If that even existed, he didn't remember seeing it in the first year book to begin with. He was about to go down on a rabbit hole of thoughts on whether that was even a thing before he heard what they asked next.

"Huh? Yeah, I had to go out on my way from class here." Well that would be an awesome answer, if it was really what the other student meant. Which was likely not the case. Since being outside for an extended period of time...and just being on the way between class and library while coincidentally going out to reach faster, were not really one and the same thing.

"Oh...I am trying to find out more about seers. Divination was my best bet. And it was what my first thoughts were, so I just went along with it." The few information he had prior to coming to Hogwarts on that didn't seem to be enough for him here. Especially not when Hogwarts had such a big library. Ok maybe now it was becoming obvious he had a bit of a problem here. This was the second stack he was starting. AND OF COURSE HE WAS SEEING NO PROBLEM WITH THIS. Because it was just a normal past time to Eric.

Still as he was invited to go outside he did seem to think it over for a bit. After all Eric did finish quite a few books already. Maybe going outside for a bit was a good idea. "I guess?" Such great...not at all awkward way to answer...

Did Eric saying "yet" mean that he was already on his way down the dark dark path towards nerdness? Cass would have to ask an older year about the nerd-counter charm as soon as they could. This poor soul clearly needed saving. They were even more worried about the next thing he said, which clearly did not count as going outside. "That doesn't count" they said, shaking their head at him. Thankfully they had decided to come to the library today, otherwise who knows what could have happened to him? If he spent any more time around books he was going to become a book. No need to worry anymore though, because the great and mighty Cass Ito was here to save him from that terrible fate. Were all the books in the library just students that had spent too much time in there? What a terrible thought. Cass would have to keep an eye on all their nerdy friends, and take them for mandated walks outside sometimes.

Speaking of nerdy friends though, first they had to drag Eric out of here. "Why don't you just ask a seer then? Or the divination teacher?" they said. Not all knowledge came from those terrible things known as books. "Anything beats inhaling this much dust" they wrinkled their nose "Besides, all these books are just going to end up being about the same things with different wordings anyway". Not that Cass knew a lot about books. Or seers. They weren't that insensitive to ask why Eric wanted to know though. If he wanted to tell them, he would tell them. Pushing him would only make him uncomfortable.

But what would really help him was a break. How long had it been since he had tasted fresh air? Why wasn't there like a library monitor or something that went around whacking students with books if they had been there for more than half an hour? Getting this wrapped up in your thoughts was not a good idea. Cass preferred to never get wrapped up in their thoughts full stop. Heck, Cass preferred to live a very no thoughts lifestyle. And thinking this long while talking to Eric was not helping with that. "Great! Let's go!" they chirped "Do you have a broom? Do you like flying? Or do you just want to go for a walk? Or or or... a swim!". A swim in September was possibly not the best idea with the weather cooling down and all, but Cass was not exactly known for their good ideas.
