Errand Group Four: Tricks, Tales and Treats PV | Group

@Eric Kim, @Aodhan Shaw, @Evpraksiya Vinogradova, @Zelda Fox, @Sanguinius Demarest
This is a group thread for the errand, Tricks, Treats and Tales. Feel free to reference the errand page for any information, and feel free to owl me if you have any questions.
It was the 30th of October, and all throughout the grounds, small fire pits sent smoke into the crisp autumn air. Each pit would have a small group of four to six students that got to socialise, have sweets, make s'mores, tell scary stories... really, whatever their hearts desired. If some of them came wearing a scary costume and others came wearing a bedsheet to be a ghost, the better for them.

Ingredients for s'mores (graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolates and skewers) were laid on a small table at each fire pit. Small logs provided seating for the students, larger logs for the older students and smaller logs for the younger ones. Multicoloured leaves, the warm shades of which could be seen in the firelight, dapped the floor with colours almost like a rug. The point of it all was to be cosy, to be fun, and perhaps a night full of colours and giggles and firelight would get the job done.

To ensure everyone remained safe, and if they did burn themselves, to provide a quick healing spell, Koko, a seventh-year prefect, stood off to the side in the shadows. She was not particularly well-hidden: her light-coloured hair reflected the light easily, making it so that even as she tried not to be a distraction from the event, if she was needed, she could be swiftly located. A silver mackerel tabby sat at her feet, content with the general atmosphere around him. She could only hope that the students would enjoy this, too.
OOC: What to do.

Write at least one post of your character being present at the event. Hopefully, they are enjoying things, but some teenagers are moody.

Your total word count (all posts combined) must be at least 600 words, but you can absolutely write more than one post, or more than 600 words. Please do remember to write at least 200 words per post per site rules!

Upon completion of your 600 posts, please provide your total word count and link your thread your sign-up post in the errand thread here.

Once again, I hope you have fun! Feel free to owl me if you have any questions at all.

xxxxx𝕰vpraksiya sat perched on one of the larger logs, her posture perfectly suited for a child of the Vinogradova main family, legs crossed beneath her silken dress as the firelight flickered across her face, adorning her features with an ethereal ocher light. Sacremento eyes gleamed, capturing the light of the fire and bringing out the unnatural green. The warmth of the flames felt pleasant against her skin in the unsympathetically crisp October air, though her expression remained distant, aloof. She was simply always more of an observer than a participant in any festivities and these childish festivities were no exception.

Around her, she noticed small clusters of students chatting animatedly, their laughter rising above the crackling ashy smoke of the fire. The scent of burning wood and toasted marshmallows mixed with the kiss of cool autumn air. It was for all intents and purposes, a scene of idyllic coziness, but despite all of that, Evpraksiya couldn't seem to immerse herself into her own life. The young Slytherin, of course, didn't mind the detachment that she felt. How would someone mind something that they'd never had after all?

She watched dispassionately as some of her... contemporaries (although she called them that hesitantly upon witnessing the sight of their behavior) enthusiastically skewered marshmallows a group away, their faces flushed with excitement, ears cherry red from the cold.

One Hufflepuff boy’s marshmallow caught on fire, and his panicked attempts to blow it out caused a ripple of laughter to spread through the group. Evpraksiya’s practiced smile remained fixed at the sight, although gaining a hint of genuine amusement at the sight of his struggle. It was unfathomable to her as to why the boy's friends (their level of familiarity seemed to indicate a previous history) would find his struggle as amusing as she had but perhaps it was an inside joke? Yes, that must be it.

A small sigh escaped her as she reached for a graham cracker, more so out of social obligation than desire for the sweet. The Slytherin never adored sweet things, no matter what people often assumed at her saccharine appearance. But the act of assembling a s’more gave her hands something to do, something to focus on besides the strange heaviness that twisted in her chest. The firelight cast long shadows across the ground that seemed to scintillate with the warm hues of red, orange, and gold fallen leaves blending into the darkened earth like a tapestry. It was beautiful of course, but it would not do for her to stay staring at the ground the entire time. Terrible manners that was.

The chocolate began to melt from the heat of the fire, and Evpraksiya carefully placed a toasted marshmallow on top, completing her s’more. She stared at it for a moment, it was certainly raw compared to some other "smores" she'd seen. It was tempting to just leave it there, untouched, but with a small sigh, she brought it to her lips and took a bite. The sweetness exploded on her tongue, and she resisted the urge to grimace at the excess of sugar.

Honestly... it seemed like some people wished for diabetes.

Aodhan hadn't expected his father to come through this year with a costume, mainly due to the large distance now between them, but he had been pleasantly surprised.

The boy was clad in the gifted outfit, able to feel how snug it was against his small frame. Of course, it sported nothing less than near perfect proportions, considering the creator's irritating need for "perfection"... whatever that looked like in the man's eyes. His father was never satisfied no matter the ending result. Still, Aodhan would never openly complain, not when it worked for his own benefit. Such was the perk of having a fashion designer parent.

Unfortunately, there were other parts of the attire the boy had to brainstorm on his own. It was evident in the numerous flaws of his paper swords, with their coloring done in a messy and childish way, as if made with little understanding of what "staying in the lines" meant. The sight under his mask was somehow even worse, and he wasn't eager at the prospect of having to remove it eventually.

Then again, was there much else he could do with plain skin and colored markers? His pocket change was pathetic to say the least. There was no feasible way of getting anything more sophisticated, and whatever was done would just have to do. Besides, surely there was pride to found in a homemade Halloween costume. It showed off creativity, originality, the confidence to share one's talents with the world! And the young wizard made sure to carry nothing but confidence as he stood among his peers by the fire.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Or gentlethem, I dunno, up to you really. But anyway, feast your eyes!" he announced, using a volume not at all matching his tiny stature. The youth was quick to grab roughly three marshmallows before he started to juggle them, displaying an impressive amount of dexterity. He even tried going in reverse just to show off.

"So, Halloween! Spooky, scary season, right? Plenty of stories get told to try and really freak people out, but normally, that's pure crap," he drawled on like he was some kind of talk show host, and perhaps at that moment, he truly imagined himself as one, "... Pure crap for the people who also like pretending aliens aren't real! So absolute friggin' losers. Don't be like that. But if you are, don't worry! I can tell you all about my astral projection experience to a post-apocalyptic dimension, and the everlasting horrors existing there. No doubt in my mind that will convince you of this stuff."

His brain was operating at high speeds, as per usual, already bouncing from one nonsensical idea to the next. A line was getting drawn between them all, creating the outlines of fantastical stories he could share with the group. Would they make sense, however? Definitely not, but he was (unreasonably) confident in his ability of convincing the audience otherwise.

Yes, his audience in which... hang on, he could actually recognize a few of them. Under normal circumstances, this would not matter much. He'd be rather excited about the newfound knowledge, actually, if not for at least one of these faces terrifying him, and the other an enigma of sorts. At least one of his dormmates was present; he had no issue with that Eric (?) person at all, regardless of their practiced silence.

Still, what a tough crowd this was turning out to be. But it wasn't as if Aodhan ever would run from the challenge. Maybe he could even work a laugh out of Waffles, which... that sounded like a miracle would need to happen. And in that case, he'd just have to create the miracle himself.
