"Good idea, I haven't really checked the myths and legends section yet." Elena's eyes sparkled with the consideration of the new idea, "I think it's strange they don't meet more often in a way, feels like with so many new advancements and also so many legal matters that more people would interact with it."
Elena personally didn't have any real interest in making this happen, as it wasn't her division and wasn't ever going to be her division, but it was interesting to think about if nothing else.
"Oh! I only looked in the zoology section, I should check if there's a pet care one or postal service, good thinking." Elena nodded, "Probably should've looked for a pet care one earlier, I've been drawing up a map of the library since it's hard to navigate without one. I could give you my spare if you want it."
Elena figured he probably didn't want a map but you never know, and it's nice to ask. Politeness was a skill she didn't really have before but learned quickly enough, only bothering with the stuff that she thought was necessary and eschewing things like how to hold your fork on the assumption that the people who would judge her for it weren't worth the bother.

It's not really that strange. How would you feel if a group of people that looked like you but had something special that you didn't suddenly appeared? No matter who you are, finding someone who's better than you, and isn't on your side is intimidating. Sure, we're not better than them at everything. But we have something they could never have. And that's enough."
He wasn't sure if that was a tad too deep or philosophical for a second year slytherin, but who cared? If she didn't understand it then he wouldn't be any worse off and if she did then woop de doo he also wouldn't be any worse off. It was a irrelevant-irrelevant situation, which was, in his case anyway, a win.
"You do know that the library is organized alphabetized and indexed, right? All the rows and everything is labelled, and the librarian knows where almost everything is. Still, it's good to work on map making skills. I probably won't use the map, but you should definitely bring it to whatsisface from 'things that happened in the past involving magic, and also why the ministry is cool class.' They could probably help you out with improving on stuff like that. Probably, anyway."

Elena nodded along with the first bit, as if she was processing the information, then reevaluating her opinion. Her opinion ended up being People Are Stupid So You Have To Hide. Elena being Elena, she decided to voice this opinion, "Ah, I get it. Stay hidden because people are afraid. I probably should've learned that from the whole Salem Witch Trials thing huh. I more meant that wizards would know more about it, since the wizarding communities are so tiny. Like maybe they'd go to a normal book shop or something, or muggleborns want to keep up with their friends during holidays."
No point feeling dumb about the map, better to forge on and ignore that. The map would keep getting annotated though, it was easier to know exactly what turns to take on shelves to get to the books she wanted than try and memorise where they were leaving things the first time.
Elena started giggling, "Ministry is cool class! Oh god I hope there aren't essay assignments, I don't think I could come up with enough arguments to support a thesis on that."
True facts, the ministry had been infiltrated and honestly did some pretty idiotic things from time to time. They also did a bunch of intelligent things like the Statute of Secrecy, but there was no sense thinking about the good points when you were making jokes.

Wait, hold on one second, maybe he did know the boy. The ravenclaw that had attempted to sneak in to the stables that one time, the one that creeped him out more than he was willing to admit. He had even heard some kids talking about him, he seemed to almost be a cryptid of Hogwarts. But that was neither here nor there.
"Usually, ties are cut with the muggle world. There's not much left there for wizardkind. All we need, we can get ourselves, and it feels constricting to not be your full self around people. It's a lot easier to stay with their own bookstores, their magical friends, and so on. You can argue anything, if you need to. I could argue that the grass outside was a very deep shade of purple, and bring up some very good points. Follow the guidelines that they set for you, get good grades and a good job. Only then is it reasonably intelligent to start sticking it to the man. If you do it now you'll just get a bunch of complications, and no one likes that. Better to not screw with their headcanon until you have a solid leg to stand on."

Elena was certain she could continue to lie her way through homework, as for sticking it to the man. Well, that wasn’t an inevitability unless someone decided to push a point way beyond the place where Elena just treated them with neutrality.
“Yes, although have you ever seen that book in Flourish and Blotts? The one about ‘The One Who Let It Snow’? That seems a lot like that non magic movie, Frozen. I saw posters everywhere, and that song will never leave my head. Ever. I didn’t even watch the movie.” Elena hummed a little portion of the tune as she figured out what to say next, “Sticking it to the man isn’t my only skill, I also have a good grip on pretending to believe things that aren’t quite right and also not hissing at teachers who replaced teachers I like. The latter’s somehow become the most useful out of those two as well, although I make no promises about lack of hissing if you get kidnapped by whatever is eating the teachers.”
She looked at Griffith with the fake serious face that only someone under the age of thirteen can use , “It’s the real reason all the teachers are leaving school. So don’t get eaten by the One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple Teacher Eater, I’ll have to go on a quest to rescue you and that’ll be embarrassing for everyone involved.”

"Oh no. It's not that kind of a monster that's eating the teachers. It's a little something called "bad pay" mixed with another little something called "a school infested with little future dark lords." It's ridiculous. Even the teachers that like it here don't fight hard to not get pulled away by other job opportunities. This place used to be the future, now it's more than a little bit washed up. Nothing against diversity, but there are a bit too many man-eaters here for my liking. Still, I'm not going anywhere. And the teachers might stay longer if you stopped giving them the stinkeye whenever you resist the urge to hiss at their faces. Who knows, maybe you're the professor eater!"
Griffith threw up both his index fingers in a cross shape, mockingly warding off the little girl as he scooted his chair back towards the wall
"Back, beast! I'm trying to make tenior!"
Hogwarts, all in all, wasn't really that bad. It wasn't someplace he would stay, given the choice, but it was a place, and any place could theoretically be a home. You just had to be accepting enough, and willing to compromise, and maybe you might have to have brought your bed with you. It really was an absurdly long list.

Elena was about to argue that not all the professors got given the stink eye, in fact some of them got a smile. With the notable exception of the new charms and history teachers. Sadly the astronomy professor didn't often get a smile, although that had more to do with the time the class was held than anything else.
Before any comment about the school's insane professors, insane students, fire un-safety, coldness, issues with established old-boys ideals, or Elena's idea for a new school could be made. Griffith as per usual pulled something hilarious.
There was one noise in this world Elena refused to ever admit she makes. It's not a squee, that's fine by her, a chuckle is sometimes needed, wheezing is important. Hell even loud hacking could be fine, but the next sound she made was one that would never ever be admitted to anyone.
Elena actually, shockingly, giggled. Looking a lot younger than usual because the usual grumpiness that lurked somewhere in her features was absent. Elena grinned and put her arms up, waving them about scarily, "You fool! Tenior is only for those who can defeat me, and none can ever gain tenior as I am death itself!"
Elena then went on to make scary dragon noises in an attempt to punctuate the point.

Griffith reached a hand into one of his deep, leather pockets, and pulled out a small rubber band, which he expertly stretched and let fly towards the little girl's face, before pulling out another and threatening the little girl with his newly acquired rubber armament.
"I'll not be bested by the likes of you, not by a long shot, beast. My holiday bonus is upon me, and it won't be burglarized by such a foul monstrosity. Forsooth, I've espied the visage of the beast, and I hath proclaimed fie, fie on thee, most villainous monster from the depths of the depraved mind of those wretched demons responsible for the young teen fiction section of the local bookstore!"
He let fly the second rubber band with a sharp twang before loading another, performing perhaps the greatest feat of acrobatics a man as large and old as himself could hope to achieve, placing a hand on the back of his chair and launching himself in a flip over the top. There may have been a pop somewhere along his spine, but physical activities was what Griffith was good at, and he happened to be in a decent mood. Playing was usually something he just did with creatures, but he could make an exception for the time being.
