"I think she said she would wait on the other side of the barrier for us. Oh, hurry up Kay, you can tie your shoe-laces later!"

Irina ran beside the trolley of trunks being pushed by her older sister Idril. She had long since abandoned her brother, Kay, so great was her excitement at getting to Platform 9 and 3/4. The three of them had said their goodbyes to their parents at the train station entrance. It had been warm but brief as the three children were all keen to get to the train.

Irina turned to look over her shoulder. Kay was bending over to tie his laces.

"Oi! Flobberworm! If you don't hurry up we'll leave you behind."

"Pff, you know if you say that any more angrily, he may actually believe you," Idril grinned.
Irina idolised her in almost any way possible. There was of course the sibling tension that every sister had but Irina respected her so damn much. She was probably closer to Kay cause there was only an 18 month age gap but she was in absolute awe of her older sister. Idril was gorgeous with golden brown hair that dipped down to her elbows in messy curls, similar to Irina's, complimented by bright blue eyes. And to say she was smart was an understatement, though that was clear since she was in Ravenclaw. She had a tendency to walk with the face of someone setting out to kill but when she smiled it lit up the room. She was just completely and utterly beautiful. Irina wished she could be more like her.

Kay ran up to them, scowling lightly. "Rude," he muttered, elbowing into Irina. She grinned, retaliating, and in the span of a few seconds, the pair were fake fighting, flapping their hands around and giggling loudly.

"When you two want to act your age, we can walk through to the platform now," interrupted Idril, leaning idly on the trolley next to the tall blank wall. "Or you can tumble your way through! Your choice."
She smiled warmly at Kay and asked, "You wanna try going through on your own this year?"
It was only Kay's second time going through.
"Ha! Yea-no," he said quickly, tone cheerful and joking. "I'll go through with Reen."

Irina winked at him and grabbed his hand. Then she gave a fake sniff of despair. "It was nice knowing you Kay."
He sniffed back. "Yeah. See you on the other side."
With that dramatic line, they took a deep breath and jumped through.

Immediately, Irina's senses were bombarded by the sound of owls screeching, children shouting and the train whistling. Steam filled the platform from the bright red train and dashing figures blurred across her vision. As overwhelming as it should have been, Irina had only one thought - where was Mahlioz?
She stood on her tip-toes and craned her neck over the throng of students. There, by the bench a few pillars away where the friends had decided to meet. Irina could see a mass on curly brown hair. She grinned and, once she had checked to see Idril and Kay were still with her, hopped into the fray, ducking and dodging the pupils to get to her best friend.

After a few seconds of weaving, she emerged at the bench and threw herself without warning onto the unsuspecting Slytherin. She squealed and squeezed tightly, breathing in the vague smell of autumn and old books. The smell of friendship.
"So good to see you Mahl," she whispered, still holding on tightly to her best friend.

She finally let go however and gestured behind her. "Mahl! I'd like you to meet my younger brother Kay and my older sister Idril!"

I don't have a train of thought. I have 7 trains on 4 tracks, all narrowly avoiding each other when the paths cross, all the passengers are screaming and there's that annoyingly calm female conductors voice in the background.

Had Platform 9 3/4 always been this... much? Mahlioz had a hazy memory of the first two times she'd been here. The first time she'd been too enamoured by the train and the excitement of going to Hogwarts, the second time... well, the second time they had just been with Irina and gotten Eusèbio, so they had other things on their mind. But this time was very, very different. They'd never been this early, first of all - their aunt Audrey had picked them up rather in advance from Alyce's, and now they'd been waiting at the station for over half an hour. Not that Mahlioz was complaining. She didn't want to be in Alyce's house for any longer than she needed to, and she missed Hogwarts so much.

But this place was too much right now. The noise, the kids, all the different things everywhere just overwhelming her senses. They tried to focus on the feel of their violin case on their back, and their trunk handle in their hand, but it was just so loud. She wanted to get on the train already, away from all this chaos, where it was at least a little quieter, and where she could pull out a book and Eusèbe (though he'd probably be traumatized, he hated the train after last year) and read in peace. But they wanted to see Irina, they didn't want to disappoint her, so they waited.

If it was anyone else, even a good friend, who had thrown themselves onto Mahlioz without warning, the newly-third year probably would have screamed in fear and overwhelmedness (which was a word now). But this, of course, was Irina Shevel, and while it did give Mahlioz a good fright, suddenly the world had dimmed and quieted down and things were okay again. It was all okay. Rina was here. They could get on the train.

Well, no, not yet, but that was okay as well. "You too," they said, hugging their best friend back, suddenly filled with the urge to cry and not quite sure what to do with it. "I've missed you so much." They'd done enough crying during the summer. But this wasn't that kind of crying, she mostly just wanted to cry out of happiness. Finally, they were here, before the train, with the reassuring presence of this amazing Gryffindor. They did not cry.

It wasn't just the amazing Gryffindor, though. Two people were behind her, sporting names Mahlioz had heard of quite a bit. She grinned, and it wasn't fake, which hadn't happened since Reltyl had stopped talking to her. "Hello! It's nice to finally meet you guys!" Idril was really cool looking and very pretty, and seemed like maybe the kind of person Hyltwis might have gotten along with. And Kay felt like sort of a smaller, perhaps quieter, Irina. "I'm Mahlioz. You probably knew that. I've heard a lot about you!" While Irina had made the overwhelmedness more bearable, the volume was still unfortunately very very high. "Do you guys want to find a compartment so we can talk?"
