The Ravenclaw Table 2024-2025

Avis looked at the table. Was she supposed to sit there? It seemed logical, so that's what she did. She slipped into an empty seat and ignored the calls of congratulations. Back at home, her meals consisted of 4 people, and this table seemed to stretch on forever. Did she really want to be here? Yes, she decided. I do. She scanned those around her. Lucretia seemed hostile, busy within her thoughts. The girl near her, a older year, told Lucretia she was a prankster. That might be fun, Avis thought, a prank war of sorts? But that wouldn't happen. After all, Avis had bigger things to worry about. Like this massive building. Poppy was observing the table...Avis made a mental note to not let the girl get too close. Poppy seemed like the type of girl who valued loyalty. Poppy joined a conversation with another girl. Avis hadn't paid attention to her name. "Good." She thought "They can be friends" Elio clearly doesn't want to be here, maybe he and Poppy's friend would have something in common. What was so wrong with Ravenclaw? Its just another label added to a person. Meanwhile, Avis planned to do her school and get on with life.e around her.

Jada's heart dropped the moment the words "Ravenclaw" came out of the hats mouth. " My parents are not going to be happy if they hear about this" she whispered to herself. Her parents wanted her in Slytherin or Gryffindor not the house for "nerds". Deep down Jada was happy though, she really felt like she was a Ravenclaw, but the looks of her parents disappointed faces lingered in her mind.

After it was announced she was in Ravenclaw Jada looked down and walked to the end of the Ravenclaw table with barely anyone there. She wanted to cry tears of joy and sadness, but she refused to let anyone see her cry. Thats when she pulled out one of her favorite books "Heaven Officials blessing" and started to read. She was way too shy to start any conversations with her fellow students and her parents' faces were still lingering in her mind. She couldn't focus on her reading and her eyes started to wonder. She looked over at the Gryffindor and Slytherin tables and sighed. Though if she was in Slytherin she would probably be made fun of for bringing a book with her to read. Her eyes kept wondering around as she saw many students chatting and getting along.

She wanted to join put has never really had conversations with others her age. What was she supposed to talk about? Maybe they would think she was weird for bringing a book to read.

Angie squeezed into a seat at the massive table, content to let people chatter around her. There was so much food at the table that she figured it would be fine if she just took her time eating and did not respond to other people's conversations. There were some foods that looked odd to her, so she settled with some chicken, plum pudding, and a potato. Those seemed like safe, pickable foods that she could pretend to focus on them instead of eavesdropping on the conversations around her. Oddly enough, with everything that had happened during the day heading to Hogwarts, she was not overly hungry. She assumed it was probably just nerves, as her father would say about his algebra students in the Muggle world.
There were many mixed emotions and reactions about the sorting ceremony from the students at the Ravenclaw table. Most of the older students seemed happy to have new students joining them. However, Angie caught conversations that spoke of disappointment for being put in Ravenclaw house instead of one of the other ones. She did not quite understand this disappointment, knowing little of the houses herself. Her mother had once mentioned being in Hufflepuff, but that was the extent of information Angie had on the houses (besides the poem thing the Sorting hat had come up with). She just thought it was interesting to be in a place where so many people knew similar things to her! Eventually, she would learn more about each of them, but she was content to just figure out what the newfound identity meant to her. Who could she be as a Ravenclaw?

I may be small, but let me help!

She sat at the Ravenclaw table staring around her. This place is very loud. She didn't like it. She saw most of the people around her were looking happy but a few others seemed confused or disappointed. She didn't even know what to feel. She grabbed some food and shoveled it into her mouth to have an excuse to not talk to anyone. At least the food is good. She took a glance around her and saw something weird. The candles were being held up by strings. She took a closer glance. Wait a minute. They aren't connected to anything. What the heck. She looked up at the ceiling and her mouth dropped. They didn't even have a ceiling. She looked around. No one else seemed disturbed by this. What kind of place was this? Did they just let the rain come inside? Then again they might have magic to stop it. Nothing makes sense when magic is real. She decided to stop questioning her life and start eating food. She had only gotten a few bites though when she realized that the plates and cups were magically appearing. She finally decided she had to ask someone what the heck was going on. She turned to another first year "H-hi..... ummm..... do you have any.... any idea what's going on with the.... the candles, lack of... of ceiling, and..... the magic plates... and stuff....." She waited for a response nervously. What if they weren't friendly?

“Ravenclaw!”

The hat rang out.

Did the sorting matter?

If she considered herself on a different day in a different manner would she be at this table?

Was she smart enough? Witty enough?

The others looked... Ravenclaw; as described by the hat. One girl was reading a book at the table! Which she loved because generally Yolanda had a notebook & pen in her hand. Very useful.

Everyone had been placed together, reason or not, and that was enough.

It mattered enough.

Ravenclaw.

These were the students she would share her time with. In class, the Common Room, Dorms, this Table.

Could she be a Duellest for the team? What WAS Quidditch all about? Would she cheer the Broom Racers on with her Ravenclaw peers?

Sharing her time. They theirs. It was important. It mattered, a lot.

Jolted back to reality – she realized it was time to sit down. Walking slowly down the table she eyed up the old and new Ravenclaws.

“Some sighing, Watchful older years are smiling,
Those hopeful for good impressions,
Others Pining for the house that ‘wins’,
Prove your worth, Hang your tenure,
Dread the failures, or decide to be here!
Nerds, questioners; magic and grace.
Ravenclaws is our new Base!
So ‘Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure,’
Will become the slogan of those who were chosen;
For Wit, Wisdom, and Learning.
For We, are together. We are, Ravenclaw.”

Yolanda plopped down quickly in the first open spot near another First Year.

"H-hi..... ummm..... do you have any.... any idea what's going on with the.... the candles, lack of... of ceiling, and..... the magic plates... and stuff....."

Yolanda’s eyes had been downcast, once she sat, so she wasn’t certain if the girl was speaking to her or not.

“Hi! This magic! It’s… it’s overwhelming. I’m a nor- er –from a non-magic family. I feel pretty lost here too. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one!”

As she looked up she tried to look friendly; she really hoped she could start off right and could find a tribe.
Ravenclaw could be it.
The Ravenclaw Table 2024-2025
She smiled "Yeah.... I don't even know what Ravenclaw is about...." She really liked knowing that someone else was overwhelmed too. She was having a really hard time remembering all the names people used. She thought non-magic people were called nuggles or something like that but she wasn't sure. The magic around here was really disconcerting. She sighed. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon. She had a lot of friends and family back home that she felt comfortable with but here she was starting a new and she didn't like it. She was kind of embarassed because on the boats across the lake she had shivered with fear the whole time and stared at the dark water shaking. She hated murky water and the small boats had made her feel like she was going to sink. She had been so sad and scared that she hadn't listened to anything until she was called to sit under the hat. Even then she had barely heard what the hat said. It hadn't required a lot of consideration to put her in Ravenclaw though. "What's your name..... I'm Silva" She almost never asked someone else's name but this girl seemed nice and she'd have to make friends somehow.
The Ravenclaw Table 2024-2025
“Hi Silva, Nice to meet you; my name is Yolanda.Yolanda smiled and tried to maintain eye contact without staring. Once you start thinking about eye contact it messes you up.

Silva looked like a friendly girl, like someone who made friends easy.

Yolanda had spent a lot of time alone as a child. Being the youngest of 7 had been lonely. Elementary school - surrounded by kids - lonely.

She was determined not to let it show. This was a new school – with a new life. Old news wasn’t going to hold her back. She could do magic now!! I mean that – THAT was cool.

“Ravenclaw – and all the houses – have aspects every person has to some extent (I feel). But it binds us together as a group with House Points, House Sports / Teams and potentiel House Rivals. I don’ t know a ton about Ravenclaw specifically, but I think it’s great that we get put into a House.”

Yolanda stopped herself – she didn’t want to lecture the girl – she really wasn’t sure what to say. Silva had asked only her name…

She wondered what Ravenclaw was all about – and if there was merit to it’s wit and learning – whatever was the truth didn’t really matter. She was glad to be here.

She liked magic. The candles. Were floating candles a fire hazard? Did they still have fire drills at Hogwarts?

Yolanda’s mind raced a lot.

“So Silva, are you from a non-magic-er- Muggle family? I am – so this is all really – wow,” Yolanda tried to be careful not to bash or idolize magic at either extreme. Who knows who was listening at the table – pure magic families and new muggle-borns like Yolanda.

Yolanda gave her best smile to Silva, who seemed really nice, and hoped they could be potential friends.

@Yolanda Yates
“Hi Silva, Nice to meet you; my name is Yolanda.” Yolanda. It wasn't a name she'd ever heard of before. She liked it. Yolanda looked nice. She definetely seemed more talkative than Silva but that was ok. She hadn't met many people who were less talkative. Maybe she can be a friend. She hoped so.
“Ravenclaw – and all the houses – have aspects every person has to some extent (I feel). But it binds us together as a group with House Points, House Sports / Teams and potential House Rivals. I don’ t know a ton about Ravenclaw specifically, but I think it’s great that we get put into a House.”
She nodded. It probably was going to be nice getting put in a group of people who were more likely to feel similarly about things. And she was pretty sure she'd be having classes with all these people in Ravenclaw. Taking a closer look around her the Ravenclaw's all looked pretty nice and so did the Hufflepuffs. The Gryfindors looked nice but a few of them looked like troublemakers. There were some louder voices coming from that table. The Slytherins were a mixed bag. Some of them looked nice while others looked mean. For the first time she was feeling glad she was in Ravenclaw.
“So Silva, are you from a non-magic-er- Muggle family? I am – so this is all really – wow,” Muggle. Oops. Apparently a nuggle wasn't a thing. She turned back to Yolanda. So she wasn't the only person coming from a muggle family. That was nice to hear. She wondered how many of them there were. At least Yolanda sounded happy being here. She wasn't quite ready to feel truly happy about it but talking to someone who was dealing with the same thing was helping. "Yeah, I'm from York. What about you?" There was a small true smile on her lips.
The Ravenclaw Table 2024-2025
Silva had a trustworthy smile. @Silva Melinora

“I’m from Lavenham, England – which is a small town compared to Hogwarts!” Yolanda said. It was a small village compared to anywhere, but she had wanted to look more worldly than she was.

“I’ve travelled a bit.” She had. A tiny bit. Very tiny bit.

Speaking of travelling around – did you want to adventure to the Ravenclaw Common Room together? Maybe check out the Dorms? You can tell me more about York. If you want that is. Either way I’ll be heading over to the common room – I can hardly eat another morsel.

She hadn’t eaten much.

Yolanda wasn’t afraid of getting lost – she could always ask a Prefect or other student wandering the Halls – and she got lost all the time. She wasn’t even scared of this new place and not knowing anybody. She was scared of embarrassing herself.

Friends were great but they also brought about a certain – risk.

Ah well – maybe a tad blunt I was.

“If not I’ll see you around class – and the dorms – for sure anyway.” Yolanda liked Silva but she didn’t want to trap her into ‘hanging out’ with the first person she encountered.

This other girl seemed really cool – and a First Year Ravenclaw like herself no less! She hoped they would become fast friends.

@Yolanda Yates

"I’m from Lavenham, England – which is a small town compared to Hogwarts!” Hmm. Lavenham. Never heard of it.[/i] Then again she hadn't heard of a lot of towns. Her family had only ever traveled outside of England and to London.
"I’ve travelled a bit.” She wondered where Yolanda had been "Me too.. I've been to China once.. It was really cool" Going to China had been really cool and it was supposedly to see her ancestors but everyone she was closely related to was either in England or long dead. She had seemed out of place though. As the last people in her close family who had actually lived there were her grandparents who were fluent in English she didn't know any Chinese. She did want to learn though.
“Speaking of travelling around – did you want to adventure to the Ravenclaw Common Room together? Maybe check out the Dorms? You can tell me more about York. If you want that is. Either way I’ll be heading over to the common room – I can hardly eat another morsel." She narrowed her eyes slightly. It hardly seemed like Yolanda had eaten any morsels. She decided it was probably just nerves. Maybe she was also afraid of getting lost. She was going to get lost so much she just knew it. She was good at mazes but it hardly seemed like the school was going to be a maze and it was also really big. Apparently she'd waited too long to respond because Yolanda seemed slightly awkward when she said “If not I’ll see you around class – and the dorms – for sure anyway.” She immediately felt sorry. Sometimes she just got lost in her thoughts and forgot to respond to people. That shouldn't be a blight on them. "Oh.. I'd love to explore with you." She'd defenitely feel more comfortable with someone else around to help her not get lost. She hoped Yolanda liked her. She would feel really sad if one of the first people she met turned out to think she wasn't nice. She hoped they'd become friends.
