Handmade Apologies
Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
september 20th, 2024 | evening
It wouldn't be right for Sereia to assume Noah had been the one to initially steal her curtains. After all, correlation does not always equal causation. But the coincidences were very close to one another, stealing and damaging her curtains in the middle of the night. The first time, she had been dead asleep from the train ride and hauling her stuff to the North Tower. Sometimes, being higher up in the castle was nice for some peace and quiet, but not when you needed to haul stuff up for teaching and basic amenities.
Sereia set out the pieces of one ruined curtain she had tucked away in her office since that night, along with a sewing needle and purple thread that closely matched the curtain fabric. Truthfully speaking, Sereia didn't think she would make much use of her sewing kit knowing she had full access to all sorts of repair spells. But with how long she spent away from the wizarding world prior to becoming a professor, she needed a backup plan in case. A simple explanation, really.
As for Noah, repairing the curtains with magic would be too easy, she knew, and if she wanted him to learn from it, then he would have to apologise with an honest evening's work.
When he came in, she sat him down and started. "Before you start sewing, you need to tie a knot at the end of the thread so that it doesn't just pass through the fabric. Then, fold the fabric so that the right sides are facing each other and you're working with the back sides." She tied a quick knot and positioned the fabric as she described it before poking through the fabric with her needle and beginning a stitch. "I am assuming you have never stitched a day in your life, so here's an easy back stitch. Get the needle through both layers of fabric and pull, then poke the needle to the right of the initial hole. At the same time, poke the needle across so that it goes over initial hole and pull. There, first back stitch done. You start again by putting the needle through to the right of where you are and repeat the overlapping process." Describing the motions of hand-sewing wasn't very intuitive, but Sereia hoped her initial demonstration would be enough.
Placing the materials in his hands, she walked to another table not too far from Noah and opened the book she'd been enthralled in for the last week. Hopefully she could finish a chapter in the time it took for him to adequately repair a curtain. "Once the curtain is back in one piece, you can go. And oh, no, you're not allowed to use magic."
Welcome to detention! You are only in IC trouble, not OOC. Sereia is not pleased.
As a little TL;DR, you are expected to:
1) write your character sewing the curtains back together. The minimum word count for the cleaning is 400 words - this can be split into multiple posts. You do not need to wait for me to post to continue posting; you can double post.
2) sew without the use of magic. Sereia will periodically check for spells via the Spell-Detection Spell. If magic is used, an extra 50 words will be added to the word count requirement.
3) you cannot make or join new RP threads until detention is complete. Threads that were created before the detention thread was created can be continued as normal. OOC threads, are exempt from this.
Once the requirements are met, I will post one final time to let you out of the classroom.

462/400Noah groaned. He knew what he did was wrong the moment he left the dormitory, but for him to elect to go through with it was technically against his morals and he did it anyways. What a dumb kid he was. He entered the classroom to be bombarded with simple instructions. No wonder why he did not take Divinations as an elective.
He chose to be mindful, to be demure and to try and remain cutesy so that he doesn’t ignite another dreadful moment like a detention.
He looked away from her face, staring at the needle and the thread.
“Yes ma’am.” He stated before going to work on the sliced curtains.
He made sure to knot the thread and then he folded the purple fabric over just so that the right sides of the fabric were facing one another, because just as the professor instructed, it was so that he was sewing correctly.
Well no, he had never once sewed in his life, and he felt that after today he would never want to do it again. But it did make him feel like his dads were wonderfully patient and caring when they handsewed his superhero quilt that he kept on his bed.
“Yes ma’am.” He said again as he poked the needle through the two layers of fabric that he placed up against each other, the back sides, and pulled. He then poked right of the hole that he went through and simultaneously poked over the initial hole and lightly yanked. He repeated the process as tedious as it was.
This bloody sucked. There had to have been better things to do than this, a better punishment at least. Hell, there was magic! Magic that could do this! Why did he have to do something so bad! It wasn’t in his bones!
Noah finished the first part of the curtain, that first slash he made was now mended. Now for the second part of the curtains, that final slash.
Again, he made another backstitch and wanted to cry. But no, big boys don’t cry. She didn’t even give him a thimble! It felt like the sharp eye of the needle was protruding his thumb and poking his bone but alas maybe it was part of the lesson.
When he finished stitching up the second sliced curtain, he took a step back to see if he did it appropriately.
There were a few gaps that he messed up on.
“Professor, I’m so sorry. I didn’t.. I..” He faltered. His heart felt so low and so full of guilt that he just looked away from her and warm drops of tears streamed down his face. “I’m so sorry for doing this.” He mumbled. “I- I just wanted a suit for the ball..”

Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
september 20th, 2024 | evening
The boy made quick work of the sewing and stayed silent through it, much to Sereia's delight. Once she'd demonstrated how to do a back stitch, she took to sitting at a table near the stairs and writing in her journal. A few hours before, she'd caught a kid wanting to set her class on fire, so now she had a detention to run, tomorrow. Gods, things just kept getting worse, didn't they? This year was already tracking to be her least favourite year of them all.
So, scheduling a detention for tomorrow morning. What a way to spend her Saturday. Then, look at the next week's lessons and plan out her lesson structures. Before dinner, go for a run by the Great Lake. Maybe stop by Jane's office to figure out a way for her classroom to stop being broken into. Yes, that sounded like a solid plan.
When Noah stood up, Sereia looked up and closed her notebook. For a first time sewing, it wasn't awful. She could live with it hanging up in her room for a bit, give the place a bit of a worn-down aesthetic. If the room hadn't been so silent, she wouldn't have caught Noah's words.
Sereia sighed. "Did you really need curtains, though? They're a heavier fabric than cotton and polyester. Besides, there's a lovely tailor down in Hogsmeade that probably has a suit that could fit you." She shook her head. "Anyways, you can go. Good work. I'll clean up the threads and everything."
Detention complete.
