HISTORY. The Sokolov family, composed of pure lineage, is one no short of tradition. At least, it certainly used to be.
Ilya’s father, Mikhail Sokolov, embodies the family’s ideals. Living by the pursuit of respect, duty appears to serve above all else. In what fashion, then, could he have married an anomaly such as Heidi? A progressive. Everything the Sokolovs certainly were not. Daring and full of life, she approached the world with a lens much to the bewilderment of her in laws. A woman who believed that rules were meant to be bent, if not broken, leaving laughter echoing through the halls of the Sokolov estate.
Heidi herself carried along grace and charm, challenging rooms with her personality. Known for her bold statements and refusal to be bound by old ways, she often caused small scandals within their social circles. Despite the whispers, Di was loved deeply by her children. Ilya especially, who inherited her sense of ease.
The contrast between his parents shaped Ilya’s upbringing in ways both obvious and subtle. Raised by the weight of expectation, taught that the family name was to be upheld at all costs. Yet under Heidi's influence, the suffocating demands of Sokolov traditions softened. She encouraged her children to dream, and more importantly to question without fear.
REFLECTION. Taking after his father, Ilya has an angular elegance to him, features sharp yet softened by the youth he possesses. His cheekbones are high, casting shadows that could make him appear more severe than he is. Chestnut coloured hair falls in loose waves around his face, often left in a state that suggests he’s either just woken up or doesn't much care for the mirror.
SOUND MIND. Ilya carries a presence that warrants attention, though not in the way he intends. His height, broad shoulders, and striking gaze often tend to send the wrong message. Conversations with him, however, would reveal a surprising warmth. Often found by an easy charm, there's an inherent kindness lingering not far behind.

ABILITY ONE — Charmer.
ReducioABILITY TWO — Evasive Maneuvers.A quick smile and a gentle glance, that was all it took. In Ilya's case anyway, possessing a charm that made it almost criminally easy. You wouldn't think it of course, at least not by the way the boy carries himself. As how could it be for someone so harsh looking, to contain a personality so full of ease? Perhaps it wouldn't come as a surprise to you at all, the prettiest faces known to be the most magnetizing. A package deal, both smart and respectful, it'd be impossible not to be drawn at least somewhat to him.
Off looks alone, you'd think him to be just as cold. Stern and sharp, Ilya has a face that invites very little. For those courageous enough to engage, a thoughtful surprise can be found waiting. A listener, and a good one too. In the midst of conversation, he makes it effortless. Whether it be a properly placed laugh or a gaze that provided undivided attention, it were almost as if you'd been talking to a friend you'd known for ages. That was his charm, a skill to make those around him comfortable no matter the situation.
Of course, nothing this sweet comes without a bit of effort. While enchanting, Ilya is far from oblivious to his hold on others. The ability to read a face was, like any other, a practice. One that he'd perfected with the tilt of his head, a careful watch in his eye. Manipulation? Hardly, so long as you didn't count his knack for steering discussion as such. He simply just knew the right words, fit for any occasion, to leave just enough influence.
Though not to be confused with dishonesty, Ilya truly does care about that of which he comes across. An act of escape, possibly, projecting interest into the lives of others rather than himself. As it's far easier to be allowed in, rather than to open the doors of his own closed off mind. While raised by a mother who encouraged introspection, his father's watchful eyes still led to a distaste of being observed. If for nothing at all, the least he could do is divert the attention away from himself. After all, what was something people loved more than to be the spotlight? It was an easy answer, and an even easier solution.
And so, his smile never wavers, nor does that gleam in his eye.

ReducioFrom a young age, Ilya had always been a late bloomer in contrast to the other boys. While his peers grew into their strength, Ilya remained wiry and slight, often finding himself on the losing end of physical games. He quickly realized that his lack of physical power would always put him at a disadvantage if he tried to meet others on their terms. So rather than resist, he adapted.
It began with childish fights, nothing serious, the nature of young boys taking its course. Their hits, though playful, carried a weight he knew he couldn’t return. But he could slip away before they landed. Evading became a game of its own, one that he could finally find the advantage in. For where the others saw obstacles, Ilya found paths. Sharp eyes learned how to catch their subtle shifts in movement, a tell for when he needed to step aside.
No longer was he known for being the boy easy to push around, instead a rather infuriating opponent. It was easy to throw a punch, to charge without much forethought. But to calculate? Well that took precision, an ability to be aware far beyond the realm of heated emotion. He was smarter, faster, and Ilya knew it well. It didn't take long for the word to spread, transforming battles that were once an easy victory for others, now into something to prove. It was almost annoying, how good he was at deflecting each attack that came his way. Was he even a little bit arrogant? Very possible, yet you'd never hear him boast.
Naturally, he couldn't stay small and frail forever, something his father's genes had made sure of. And still, with the grace maturity offered him, the skill he'd perfected never diminished. What once was a means of protection now found its way into Ilya's everyday routine, side stepping not only threats, but the world as a whole.
In such fashion, the only logical thing left to do would be to apply himself in areas he knew he'd excel. Any talent could be lost if the practice fell with it, leading him to take up dueling upon his years at school. A more suitable choice, because unlike physical combat, the art of casting focused in the very area he knew he could dominate. Intelligence. With a sharp mind and an even sharper move set, he was practically a weapon.
