Expect the Unexpected Closed

Coral Peaks looked cool and collected on the inside, but on the outside, her thoughts were aroused with excitement. Few words could describe her joy. But to Coral, it was like the world's from her fantasy books were leaping out of the pages, transforming her mundane world into a magical paradise.

Corals eyes locked onto every detail of the great hall, admiring its beautiful design. However, her favorite work of art was the galaxy colored ceiling, decorated with floating candles.

Who made this, and how did they make it? Coral wondered.

"Coral Peaks!" Solomon Lear shouted. But Coral's ears were practically shut down. She didn't hear Solomon's call.

"Coral Peaks!" Coral jerked back into reality. Frantically, her eyes locked onto the headmistress.

"Coral Peaks, approach the sorting hat." Solomon's voice softened. This comforted Coral, who got out of her seat. However, she couldn't shake off the dozens of eyes, along with exchanged laughter, as she headed towards the sorting hat.

Coral sat on the chair, then watched Solomon place the hat on her head. Instinctively, she started reciting the world Gryffindor.

"You want to be a Gryffindor, eh?" The hat spoke with a booming voice. Her father had already explained the whole sorting process, so Coral wasn't surprised to hear the sorting hat talk for the first time.

"Yes, I want to be a Gryffindor." Coral said. "They're brave, heroic and everything I want to be."

"And how hard would you work to make your house proud?" The hat asked.

"I'll do anything!" She announced.

"Hmm..." The sorting hat paused, as if to collect information.

"You'd make a good Slytherin." The sorting hat muttered. "You're ambitious, willing to perform even the hardest task so you could be like your idols."

"But I don't want to be a Slytherin!" Coral snapped.

"I know, young one." The hat said. "Stay silent, will you? I need to think about this one."

Coral didn't speak. Instead, she begged to be a Gryffindor in her head.

"Now, does will this girl be like her heroes, or will she mimic them?" The sorting hat continued. "You're strong willed, and ambitious. You'd fit right in with Gryffindor and Slytherin. However, there are more routes to succession than you think. Ravenclaw!"

The crowd started clapping instantly, but Coral was the opposite of pleased. She stood up, passed the hat to Solomon, and walked towards the Ravenclaw table, all while trying to keep a smile on her face.

When she found a seat at her house's table, the surrounding Ravenclaws welcomed her with praises and gestures. One member even gave her a pat on the back.

However, the greetings couldn't soothe her anger. She pretended to be honored. But in reality, she started to hate her surroundings. She hated the school for approving of this horrible desicion. She hated the other Ravenclaws, even though they did nothing to irritate her. But she hated the sorting hat most of all for not realising her potential and placing her into a house she considered as misguiding and terrible.
