Summer wasn't Min-seo's favorite season. It usually was too hot and stuffy. Today actually wasn't that bad. There was a gentle breeze blowing through her hair as she sat on a stool. She had brought her art kit and a canvas along with it. She placed the canvas on it's stand and put it there. The girl had messy space buns and was wearing a black pleated skirt with knee high black socks and a pastel green shirt. She also wore round glasses with thin silver rims so she could see what he was doing. Black converse covered her petite feet. She opened the small art kit and placed the paint on the wooden palette.
She didn't know what to paint. What reminded her of summer? Picnics with her family on holiday. But that was a long time ago. She sighed and started to paint the grass. Min-seo was very good at the arts. She played the piano, sang, and painted. She started to paint the sky and the cotton clouds in the sky. She felt at ease when painting. It always calmed her down during the day. Today she had taken her last exam. She was grateful it was all over. She started to paint small flowers on the grass, along with a red picnic blanket. She smiled sadly. She heard a voice and turned around.

Summertime was absolutely the best, at least in Remy Alto's mind. And in Remy Alto's mind, all that was best in his opinion should apply to everyone that roamed this same planet as he did. Someone might call that selfish, he called it inclusive! Oh, the beautiful and glorious, round and yellow sun. When it graced the British Isles, he took all of it in. Vitamin D frenzy, you could call it such. It reminded him of his past home and the sunny streets that he grew up in. Well, until his family decided that he should totally get transported into another dimension! Err, another country, that'd be less misleading.

The boy was wearing his go-to T-shirt and jeans that were cuffed on his ankles. Although he was a Slytherin and took pride in being one, his shirt was black and yellow. Just like that muggle song, or bees, or Hufflepuffs. He liked to think that he resembled a bee more than a Hufflepuff, that would have been less shameful. Buzzing around, breaking laws of aviation and physics, polluting flowers and producing honey. That seemed like living the best life. However, he was stuck in this bipedal form and roamed around the great lake. He quickly noticed that he wasn't the only one enjoying the summer breeze that ruffled the raven's nest on his head that he liked to call hair.

She was sitting with a canvas in front of her. He could quickly connect the dots and realize that someone was, in fact, painting. Wonderful! He loved art, even if the only kind of arts that he was proficient in were music and being dramatic. Remy was a social creature so he immediately marched over to investigate deeper about what was going on. What was the story behind this painting in process? How about the melancholic look of the rather familiar looking girl?

"I bet you five knuts what you're painting is, hmm, flowers! And a bunch of them!" It was an educated guess from an uneducated boy. He showed up behind her shoulder, giving her his shimmering smile that was enough to rival the sun that was shining on that sky.

Min-seo tucked the thicker brush behind her ear as she used the thinner one to start on the detail work. She worked on the people. A mother sitting on the red picnic blanket holding a baby girl grabbing at the wisps of the mother's hair coming out of the bun. A father flying a kite with his son. The kite was a beautiful orange goldfish soaring in the wind. And last but not least, a small toddler girl trying to catch a blue butterfly. That girl was Min-seo. That family was her own. more than half of them were dead from a fire. The only ones alive in that photo were Min-seo and her brother, Ji-woo. She jumped as she heard someone speak. She turned around to see a boy her age smiling down at her. "Oh really? I didn't notice," she said with a joking tone. Why did the boy look so familiar? She hadn't met him before, right? Then it came to her. He was the one who she met in the winter. The one who threw a snowball at her when she was reading. She was perplexed. Why did he seem so much nicer now? Before he was rather cold to her.

To deny her talent would have been a crime. Remy was honest, he wouldn't let a compliment slip if he did not mean it. He stared at every stroke she made, admiring and wondering how'd she do it. He guessed that everyone had their own individual strengths that one should exercise. His strength was being loud and annoying, and he'd surely exercise it for the better or worse!

"Hm, I wish I could do that kind of stuff. I guess you practice a lot to get to this kind of level. What are those people you're painting? Is it someone you know?" He could not see the link between Min-Seo and the piece of art, thinking that she was just painting some random family she might have seen one random day in her life. Who could have known that Miss Snowball Fight was well-versed in these types of activities? She did have some kind of a meek and fragile look to her though that signaled 'I am a sensitive artist' to Remy. Stopping the fawning over her artwork, he crouched and looked up to her face. Yeah, she really radiated melancholic and gloomy energy. That was not okay in his books. He was a happy-go-lucky, maybe occasionally feisty and angry boy who would have preferred to see a smile.

"D'ya want to hear stupid puns?"

Min-seo smiled at him. "Practice doesn't make perfect, but it certainly does help. My earlier ones are rubbish," she said with a light chuckle. Min-seo always painted when she was bored, or drew, that was another thing. She would call herself an artsy person more than a sportsy person, although she did like quidditch (she wanted to play chaser on the team). "My family. A long, long time ago." she said with a small smile. She missed them. She tried to not let the tragedy get in the way of her life though, she just wanted to paint the scene that was so familiar in her head. She frowned a bit and looked at her work. She added more detail to the food on the blanket and more clouds. She also focused on the yellow dress young Min was wearing, with a cream bow in the back with a straw hat with the same ribbon. She saw the boy crouch down and look at her face. She looked at him with a confused glance. He asked if she would like to hear stupid puns. She smiled and nodded. "Why not? It couldn't hurt," she said, placing her brush down to turn to him.

He let out a loud huff as he shook his head dismayed, disagreeing with her statement. Practice was precisely the way that one could reach the top of the skill and master it. Tightly holding his hands over his chest despite it being quite hot in here, he scrunched his nose. "That's a lie. Of course, a little predisposed talent can get you started, but practice perfects your craft," it was as if he was possessed by some 70-year-old man who started lecturing about the importance of patience, perseverance, and repetition. It was quite funny, coming from a boy who was notoriously impatient. However, Remy did pride himself for his determination and unwillingness to give up.

Sliding his arms back to his sides, he let his expression go neutral again. "My mum said that the most gifted ones rarely become professionals, for they think that they don't need practice," Remy blinked a few times. It made him realize that he missed his family too, even with all of their fights and disagreements sometimes annoyed him greatly. They had their differences due to everyone being a special individual, but they were still family to him. She noted to him that the people in this piece of art was her family too. Heartwarming, bittersweet, and heartwrenching at the same time. "Do you miss your family? Are you going to visit them on the break?" he asked, tilting his head ever-so-slightly to signal his curiosity. He didn't know much about Min-Seo other than that they were both second-year Slytherins and that she was bad at throwing snowballs. A rather innocent question could be a bit invasive to her. Yet Remy often had little regard for people's privacy and lacked the understanding that sometimes he would be better off keeping his mouth shut.

"Oh, uhm, here goes nothing! How do you invite a dinosaur for lunch? Tea, Rex?" he pretended to be drinking tea and emphasized this whole tea-deal with a fake posh accent. Erupting in laughter at his stupid joke, he hoped to lift the gloomy girl's spirits.

Min-seo shrugged. "I mean, I guess so, but to me, my work will never be perfect. There will always be someone who is better than you," she said. Her definition must be different from the cocky boy she was talking to. She nodded. "That's pretty wise," she said, complimenting his mother's train of thought. She'd never heard it put that way before. It made sense though, a lot of sense. Remy seemed like he had a pretty good family life. Min-seo would say she did and still does. No one is unkind to each other and everyone was very close to each other. There were hardly any disagreements in the household.
"Do you miss your family? Are you going to visit them on the break?"
Min tensed a bit but nodded. "I do. I'm only seeing a fourth of them though," she said, referring to her brother and Godfather.
"Oh, uhm, here goes nothing! How do you invite a dinosaur for lunch? Tea, Rex?"
She laughed as Remy made a stupid but funny pun. She also laughed when he laughed at his own joke. He seemed like the person to do that. She was a lot more cheerful now, to be honest.

Man! She really was getting on his nerves right now. Remy might have not had the work ethic of notoriously diligent Hufflepuffs, determination of Gryffindors or clever arguments of Ravenclaws, but he'd most definitely try to make some kind of a pep talk that would encourage for her to continue. "So what? You're right that there will always be someone better than you. But is that some sort of a reason to give up?" He might have been overly harsh and angry about some simple painting, but this apathy clashed with the way he had always been taught to think. Remy was no person to sugarcoat.

"I know. Mum's wise," he muttered under his breath, still holding his arms over his chest as if he was cradling some kind of a baby there. He tensed up too as he heard that she would only be meeting a fourth of her family. At first, his mind wandered to the worst possible outcomes of what she could mean with that. He decided to stick with a more optimistic note though. Maybe they were just traveling? Or working? His parents were quite busy too, he wouldn't blame her for being a bit sad about that.

At least she laughed at his joke. He smiled too and put his hands down, no longer crossing them like some kind of a pissed toy soldier. He loved to be the mood maker of any place and laughter always stroked his ego. His smile turned into a grin. This monster seemed to like puns too.

Min-seo gave Remy a confused look. "Who said anything about me giving up? I would work hard to get on their level, then try and surpass them, then move onto the next obstacle," she said, raising an eyebrow. The boy seemed to get irritated by Min's explanation, but she just was speaking her mind. Why was he so irritated by it? She sighed and kept on painting. She started on the details. The woman was an exceedingly beautiful veela that had her long brown hair in an updo with a light green sundress and a straw hat, similar to the little girl in the drawing, but with a light green bow. She sat on the cloth that was laid across the grass and took care of the baby that was in her arms.

Min-seo smiled as Remy talked about his mother. "Yeah, I miss mine," she said as she continued to paint. Now she began on the boy. He was flying a red kite with gold designs with his father with a huge grin on his face. Her father used to say that the kite matched his shirts, for Min-seo's brother wore a lot of red. He was also wearing black shorts.

Min-seo smiled as she stopped laughing. "You're good at making puns, you know," she said, still giggling a bit.

The grin grew on his face as she pledged to not give up, and instead, look for other heights after reaching the top. That was more like it, he loved this kind of a mindset. "Good then. There's nothing more that I hate than wimps," he pointed out very straightforwardly. He was no stranger to being called a bully once in a while. He preferred to think that he just did not associate with give-uppers instead of go-getters.

He wouldn't shun a little vulnerability occasionally. The way that her voice sounded when she told him about her mother, he could quickly assemble two and two together with the 'only a fourth of them' statement that he heard earlier. He wasn't sure of the details, but it did not sound like she was in Min-Seo's life anymore. He would usually tease someone more meek and mellow but did not have the heart to lay a finger on the poor poor girl. He followed the strokes that she did with her brush, painting against the canvas. His mind wandered to question the technicalities such as the cost of her supplies, how long she had done this and how she could have so much control over her hand at an early age. He was, to say it simply, impressed.

"It ain't mine, heard it from someone else. Let's get you out of that doom and gloom. Let's do something...fun!" he giggled as he sprung up like a spring.
