Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
september 21st, 2024 | morning after breakfast
Coming up to the Owlery was always a workout of its own. Steep and spiraling. On the days Sereia had to deliver her letters, she often chose not to run that same day. A jog up the Owlery stairs and back down made for a good cardio session on rainy days when running outside wasn't an option. The only problem with it was mostly that the stairs were probably a safety hazard. During the warmer months, the Owlery just smelled bad and you needed to avoid the bird droppings. But during the colder months, the morning dew and ice made the stairs a slip-and-slide hazard that hardly got dealt with. Can't change an owl's bioligical processes, of course, so everyone just had to deal with it.
Bucket of soap, sponges, and rags in hand, Sereia hauled them up for Elizabeth's detention. Sereia sighed. Hosting two detentions in a row was not something to be proud of. With the rate of the chaos, she shuddered at the thought of only more chaos following. Melisande had a gargoyle added to the History of Magic hallway before the end of last year, didn't she? The gargoyle hadn't been in Hogwarts for that long, so she wasn't entirely sure it was an effective countermeasure for troublemakers. Still, it was a good idea. Maybe Sereia had to invest in some sort of guard or simply enchant the door to her classroom so that the troublemakers would stay out. Surely Jane had a series of runes she could use for that purpose.
When Elizabeth arrived, Sereia's expression was blank. Inside, she was sighing. The fact she had to hand out two detentions in one week and run them back-to-back took years off her lifespan. "Good morning. I hope you had a good sleep and breakfast. I'll be taking your wand for this detention." She held out her hand to take the wand. Couldn't trust this one to suddenly throw a fire-making spell at her in the middle of cleaning, unfortunately.
Once the wand had been secured, Sereia placed it in her sleeve with her own wand. "Right. You'll be cleaning the place up until there isn't any bird poop or feathers on the floor. There's a bucket, sponges, and old rags for you to do the work. And no talking, please. I'd like to just sit here and enjoy the breeze. Now, go start so you can finish faster."
Speaking of owls, she had to write a letter for Eric again this week. Most of it would be replying to his questions and asking him to prepare another ball outfit in case she decided to go. If only she could talk about nice things students did for her and not just the amount of times her curtains had been ruined, or the amount of detentions she gave out in one week. The nicest thing would have to be being thanked at the end of her lessons, which was the bare minimum. At least there was the autumn ball to look forward to, lest it became another battlefield like the spring ball.
Welcome to detention! You are only in IC trouble, not OOC. Sereia is not pleased.
As a little TL;DR, you are expected to:
1) write your character cleaning the Owlery from all the feathers and bird poop. The minimum word count for the cleaning is 500 words - this can be split into multiple posts. You do not need to wait for me to post to continue posting; you can double post.
2) clean without the use of magic. Sereia will periodically check for spells via the Spell-Detection Spell. If magic is used, an extra 50 words will be added to the word count requirement.
3) you cannot make or join new RP threads until detention is complete. Threads that were created before the detention thread was created can be continued as normal. OOC threads, are exempt from this.
Once the requirements are met, I will post one final time to let you out of the Owlery.

@Sereia Clairmont
Elizabeth had skipped breakfast as she normally did at Hogwarts and resisted the urge to chuckle when she heard the comment about a good breakfast. Then she untangled her wand from her hair, causing it to become even more of a gnarly mess, and handed it over. But she barely suppressed a grin as soon as she saw the cleaning tools. She had often seen their muggle janitor when she was bored in their apartment building so she was familiar with the cleaning process.
She skipped to the cleaning tools and took hold of them before twirling over to the opposite corner. Taking one sponge in one hand and another sponge in the other, she used the rags to tie them to her feet for she was starting with the floor first. Dipping her feet into the soap bucket, she took them back out and put them on the floor.
Sliding with the slippery sponges, she spread her arms out to keep balance, making sure that she didn't miss a single spot. Pucking her lips, she whistled a note and used the wall to turn in another direction. As she skated along, cleaning, she took out a belt that had been tucked into her pants and tied her robes together.
As she landed back at the bucket, she grabbed a hair tie, tied her hair, flipped upside down into a handstand, and started on the walls. For the high parts, she could jump up and down to clean. Then she puckered her lips again, harder upside down, and started to whistle. She had never cleaned up after owls before but she had cleaned her room before and this was by far easier to do.
A few minutes later, she flipped back up, stopped whistling, and cocked her head, thinking of how to reach the top part of the walls. That was going to be the trickiest part of all. Surveying the room, she put her soapy hands on the back of her head and stared hard at the walls. How could she get tall and reach those spots? Then she grinned and took off her shoe realizing then that she had not put on socks when she had hastily gotten dressed. Placing her foot onto a sponge and tying a rag to keep it in place, she filled her shoe with soapy water and flung the water at the wall, making sure to keep her shoe in her hands. As soon as it had started trickling down she threw the other sponge so it would catch the water. After repeating this over and over again for a while, she untied the sponge/rag shoe and replaced it with her real shoe. Later on, she would have to change shoes and then put on socks for sure. Looking around, she rolled her eyes and laughed aloud realizing that she had made the floor a little bit messier.
Stepping back on the sponges and tying them onto her shoes with the rags, she started whistling cheerfully and with a broad smile as she recleaned the floor. This time, she didn't use her arms for balance and was dancing around as she cleaned. Finally, she looked around as she untied the rags and stepped off the sponges, putting them into the bucket which looked empty. Before she turned around, she said absentmindedly, "This is almost worth using dung bombs at the ball when it comes around." Right after she finished saying that, she turned around, grinned, and asked, "This good? It was so much fun but I won't get you angry again, I promise. But can I please clean this again soon?" And as a last afterthought, she added, "What's your favorite ice cream? I promise to get it to you any way I can do it. And by the way, I love your outfit...You look good in it."

Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect

Sereia was half-expecting Elizabeth to trudge around and make silent complaints about the cleaning process. Most magical kids were like that once they'd gotten through a year or two at a magical school. On top of that, getting bird poop on clothes or shoes wasn't bound to be pleasant, both for cleaning and for smell. Instead, Elizabeth made herself a cleaning get-up with sponges on her feet and everything. Colour me impressed.
When Elizabeth tackled the walls with a handstand, Sereia jumped to stop her. The girl was too quick, though, and more enthusiastic than Sereia could give her credit for. Sereia made a mental note to tell the rest of the staff that, "if Elizabeth Stonewall gets a detention, try not to do a cleaning one. She'll enjoy it too much, funnily enough". Sereia chuckled underneath her breath.
Being asked to clean this place again was not what Sereia expected her to ask. "I- well, maybe the caretaker would like some extra hands up here. Good work."
The girl had so many questions piled on top of one another that Sereia could barely keep up. She smiled. "Thank you, now go take a shower. I'll bring the buckets and stuff back down to the elves so they can handle it. And don't worry too much about ice cream, 'kay? Try to stay out of trouble from now on."
For once, as Sereia picked up the rags, sponges, and bucket, she didn't have to worry about where she stepped.
Detention complete.
