People Watching
Colin Marwen sat down at an empty table in the back of the library. The room was not only filled with copious amounts of books, but also people. In other words it was a prime place to do his favortie hobby: people watching. People watching was simple, it was easier than talking to them in Colins opinion. He liked to people watch because of how dark and bleak the world seemed to be. It seemed like you couldn't trust anybody, but people watching could remind you that not all of humanity doesn't have manners.
To be in the act of people watching all you had to do was this: Pick a person and watch them. It was that simple, and if you wanted to spice things up a bit you made mental notes of all the good thing that person was doing. That was Colin's favorite part, looking and thinking that maybe humanities future wasn't as bleak as every politician painted it.
However, every once in a while somebody would notice him and come up and talk to him. Now that was the greatest prize, was getting to know the full story of the person you had been watching. During his years in muggle school people watching was less enjoyable becasue he couldn't seem to find anybod you who was doing nice things for other people. It made the game less fun when you watched a bully going up to a kid half their size and threatening to beat them up. But he did it anyway so he could stand up to the bullies, even he ended up getting beat up in the end.
When he had gotten to Hogwarts her realized that people were a little bit nicer here, so he began to people watch more. Nobody had come up and talked to him yet though. He was just waiting for that one person, and then maybe for the first time in a while, he'd have a friend.

People Watching
Sage was reading in the library. It had nothing to do with her classes; she simply liked to read. She also liked to avoid the Common Room - she did not belong in Slytherin, and she hated that she was forced to be in a house that despised Muggle-borns when she was one. She had sworn it to herself, on her first night at Hogwarts, that should she ever get the chance, she would burn the Sorting Hat to a crisp. It clearly didn't know what it was doing.
But there wasn't anything she could do now, apart from drop out of magic school and go back home to live with her Muggle parents... and after finding out about this world, that simply wasn't an option. So, in order to avoid her Common Room as much as she could, she often wandered the castle, or sat in the library or out on the grounds. Whether she was reading, or doing nothing at all, Sage felt that it was better than the alternative.
She looked up from her book, feeling that unsettling feeling of being watched. Her heart was beating fast; was it one of the older Slytherins, come to pick on her for being a Muggle-born? She braced herself, but then she saw the person watching her, and relaxed. It was not an older Slytherin, but a Gryffindor, and one that looked to be about her age, as well. Determined to overcome her shyness and make some friends, she stood up, book in hand, and walked over to the boy to introduce herself.
"Hi there," she said, smiling nervously. "My name's Sage... did you... I mean, were you looking at me? Is there something I can help you with?" Her voice sounded almost desperate, as well as being quiet. She just really, really, wanted to make some friends.

"Uh, um" Colin stuttered, not keeping eye contact with her," yeah. I was watching you. I promise you that it's not as creepy as it sounds. You see, when I watch people I look to see all the good things they do for other people. If I can't see anybody doing that in the momen, then I choose somebody and look at what they're doing," Through his long rambling explination Colin stuttered and paused a lot. He realized that he was out of practice. He hadn't talked to somebody since ... well, he hadn't talked to somebody since he had gotten in trouble with a prefect for being out of bed after hours.
Colin lifted his head slowly to get a look at the girl. He usually didn't look people in the eye, because whenever he looked at people their eyes usually either held so much sadness in them or where menacing. But this girl was different, instead of a menacing or sad look in her eye she had a mix of happiness and ... hope. Colin hadn't seen that look in anybodies eyes except his Aunt Margret, and it made him hope for humanity that there coud possibly be more than one person like his Aunt.
"I forgot to tell you my name. It's Colin," he hesitated again,"do you want to sit next to me?"
He pleaded with whatever celestial beings or being existed that he might finally make a friend.

She listened to his explanation, interest sparkling in her eyes. That was interesting, the idea of simply observing people; she though it could be fun, if you knew what you were doing. She hovered in front of him, shifting her weight from foot to foot, her nerves clear. It didn't seem to matter, though, because the boy was stuttering and pausing, and Sage assumed it was because he was somewhat nervous too.
When he introduced himself and invited Sage to sit with him, she couldn't stop the bright smile that spread across her lips, and she perched down on the chair next to this. "Thank you, Colin," she said quietly. "I'm Sage; it's nice to meet you." And it really was nice to meet him, to be making friends. He seemed very genuinely, and while Sage was still slightly wary, that was just her nature; she knew, deep down, that Colin was a good soul.
She turned her gaze to him, trying to come up with something to say that wasn't idiotic, but she was struggling; it was like her brain had taken a vacation because her mind was completely blank. What did one say to a potential wizard friend? Especially when potential wizard friends were hard to find. "So, er... the library, huh?" She said eventually, and immediately wanted to facepalm. Had she really just said that? Her brain had definitely checked out for the time being.

Colin's heart began to beat faster as she sat down next to him. He wondered what she'd say or do. In all honesty, she probably thought he was creepy for watching her. That thought wouldn't have been uncommon. Most of his bullies already considered him a freak, but when they found out that he liked to people watch they had a ball. They'd look at him just to see who he was watching, then they would grab him and take him to the person who he had been watching. They would tell the person that Colin had been watching them and just by looking in the person's eyes Colin could see that they were disgusted by what he was doing. So when Sage talked to him in a tone that didn't convey disgust he was beyond happy.
"Umm, yeah. A library is a prime place for people watching, especially the school library," Colin bit his lip and continued, "I'm really glad you sat down next to me. When I people watch I enjoy it when the person I'm watching comes and talks to me. It gives me a chance to learn more about them."
Colin had stuttered and paused more times than he cared to count. He just hoped that she hadn't noticed.
