It was the weekend. The second weekend since school had started. Mahlioz had been doing... well, as okay as she could be, with everything. She took out her frustration in duelling and violin, and tried to drown the rest in studying. Work was harder, in third year, which was a plus.
Alyce had been worried, before Mahlioz left, because of how much they shut themselves away and cried on their own. But the Slytherin had told her it would be okay, her friends would make her feel better (which was not technically a lie), not to write letters or text. She omitted the part about the fact that texting literally wouldn't work. Alyce was a muggle, after all.
So what was Mahlioz doing in the owlery, then, if not to write to Alyce? It certainly wasn't to write to their parents, because they were still rather livid at them for making the family move. Reltyl was a closer guess, but Mahlioz wasn't sure how to write to them yet, because of... things. It was complicated. No, Mahlioz had decided to write a letter to Félix, her cousin.
She'd been procrastinating for all of yesterday and this morning, and thought that being in a place that was a little more related to the subject at hand might work. So instead of writing in their dorm, they were here in the owlery, a piece of A4 paper they'd saved on their knees and a pencil in the other. She wasn't sure what Félix would say if she sent him a piece of parchment - that was a bit much, even from her. He didn't know she was a wizard. In fact, being in the owlery at all was a bit of a more symbolic thing, because the letter would be going through muggle post. It just helped them focus.

Salut! C'est Mahlioz. Je ne sais pas quand l'école reprend pour vous en France, mais pour moi c'était il y a deux semaines, et j'ai déjà vachement trop de travail! Tu me manques, j'aurais bien aimé te voir un peu plus longtemps cet été. Je sais que maintenant qu'on habite en France aussi on va pouvoir se voir plus souvent mais bon, je passe quand même beaucoup de temps à mon école en Écosse. ):
Du coup, comment ça va? Tu continues à trouver des plantes pour mettre dans ta chambre? J'ai un cours de botanique ici, y a plein de plantes que t'aimerais bien
Though not finished, Mahlioz paused for a few moments, watching the owls come in and out of the room, some with letters and others with prey. She wondered what else to write - Félix had a chess competition at some point soon, right? And was it possible to send him plants from herbology, or would that be dangerous? The third year was so distracted they didn't even notice someone else was in the owlery.
