How many people were willing to bet that Emily would be in the library the second she got back to Hogwarts? Nearly anyone who knew her would. Her bags were (mostly) unpacked, she had all her school things ready for classes tomorrow, and aside from the new curriculum of classes she was more anxious than ever to camp out in the library for more private studying and reading.

Sure enough, she was there after class, relishing in the same familiar feeling of embracing the literary trove around her, inhaling the smell of old and new editions of books, some of which she's probably already read but will read again... Because why not? She sat at her favourite spot at the far end of the library, small and cosy to submerge herself in her pile of hardbacks and journals. While she was determined more than ever to get to the bottom of last year's mystery - as well as investigate some old tales that have been circling her mind drain recently - she missed the simple pleasures of reading books for the sake of intaking information to curb the insatiable desire to learn.

She sat crossed legged in the chair, her eyes and nose focused on a book on wild and domestic plants. The world around her was becoming increasingly mute the further into the book she got. The careful thumps of footsteps became zoned out while the scribbles of feathers and ink pens were silenced. All she heard was her own breathing and the occasional flip of the page with her delicate fingers. Nothing was more bliss than this. Nothing could get Emily out of her bookish trance.

Nothing at all.

Emiline was excited due to being back in hogwarts, all her bags were all unpacked and her few friends were goodness knows where and she was alone.

Emiline decided to go for a stroll, her pondering mind walked her all the way to the library. When she realised where she was, she thought why her mind may have bought her here. Oh yeah, I remember, I wanted to read ahead on some of the stuff I may struggle on in herbology. She acknowledged the librarian as she passed and went to the far part of the library where she had found the last book she had taken out. She also noted another girl sitting on a chair reading a plant book, the same one that she wanted. Not wanting to disturb the girl yet, she looked in the many shelves just to double check there weren't any similar ones. Emiline saw one book which may of helped her but it was too high for her to reach without asking. Normally, she would have just asked for help from one of the many other students around but something stopped her. Maybe it was how quiet the library was this time. She looked around confused. Why was her gut telling her no? Her eyes then fixed on the girl who had not yet noticed her presence. "Excuse me..."She started. The girl showed no response. "Hi. Sorry to bother you....."She tried again. Nothing! Wow, is this girl ignoring me? She thought puzzled. Well, that is a bit uncalled for. She thought as her temper flared. Emiline's temper was one to watch out for, it comes as fast as a train but disappears almost as quickly. Her temper made Emiline annoyed at the girl Alight, I'll try one. More. Time. She walked slightly closer to her. "Hellloooo?"She asked in a sassy tone. Still nothing! You have got to be kidding me!She thought. In an instant, Emiline had lent over the girl and snatched her book out of her hands. "Now do I have your attention?"She replied with folded arms.

If there was a single word that could encapsulate the meaning of "bliss" right now, it would be Emily. Around fifty percent of the time she will have come across a book in the library that she's read before, thus only taking her out of the experience a little bit - that little window would still make way for the awareness of everything around her, between the changes in the air, the people moving back and forth past her and the sounds of books being pushed, pulled, dropped, opened and closed along the shelves and tables.

But the other fifty percent of her experiences were spent completely absorbed in books she hadn't read before - with how much time she had spent in the library last year, it was a miracle there were any books left to read that she hadn't stuck her nose in, save for the Restricted Section. The world may have well gone dead with how invested she was to new books, as per her need to ingest every fact and fictitious line on the page into mind. So would it be any shock if Emily didn't hear others if they were trying to gain her attention? Surely not.

"Excuse me..."

...

"Hi, sorry to bother you..."

...

"Helloooo?"

...

Emily sat still when the book was forcibly removed from her hands. With a blink she jolted awake when she realised someone was standing over her, her book in her hand while her arms were folded impatiently. Emily swallowed before laughing sheepishly.

"Sorry... Didn't see you there..."

Emiline looked astonished by what the girl said. 'Sorry I didn't see you there?' She repeated in her mind Sorry I didn't see you there! What does she mean? Emiline's face took on a façade of different, readable, expressions. First confusion, anger, shock and finally disbelief. "So your telling me that you haven't heard me trying to get your attention for the past, I don't know , ten minutes! You really expect me to believe that! " Emiline spoke exasperatedly. Her eyes glaring at the girl clearly not thinking straight, her mind clouded by anger. Her eyebrows looked as if they were trying to hide in Emiline's messy hair they were raised so high. For a moment Emiline just stood there. Seething. But something about the quiet the library was made her anger cool quickly like how the heat slowly disappears when the sun goes behind a cloud. Emiline blinked. Her tight dimeanure, relaxed and Emiline felt so ashamed that she had let her temper get the better of her AGAIN. I'm so stupid, I exploded like a volcano, I need to sort out my anger before I say something that i will really regret. Or worse, do something I will totally regret. She walked closer to the girl and gently placed her book onto the desk, close enough for the girl to grab it but not to close enough for Emiline to invade the girl's space. She stepped back, tucked her hair behind her ear and made eye contact with the girl again. "Look, I'm sorry about that, I shouldn't have overreacted, and grabbed your book and I made it worse by yelling at you. " She sighed, as if she had said this over and over again. "I guess I just... No, there isn't an explanation. I let my anger take control. I'm sorry."

Emiline waited a beat before nodding towards the girl with an awkward smile and she reached into her pocket. "Here you go, they are muggle sweets, just a warning." She walked towards the girl and placed the sweet bag on top of the book. "I should go, shouldn't I? She asked. She smiled sheepishly. "Sorry again." Emiline then turned to leave the girl.

"So your telling me that you haven't heard me trying to get your attention for the past, I don't know, ten minutes! You really expect me to believe that!"

The frustration in the girl's voice was undeniable. Emily, still timidly shrinking in her place, gave a wry smile and said quietly, "Yes...?" To be fair, it wasn't like she was lying to her to get out of this scot free. In fact she wasn't even lying at all. It was all an innocent explanation of what happened; Emily was too absorbed in a book that she managed to block out all other conscious thought and awareness that culminated into this situation.

"I--I'm really sorry...! I just get like that sometimes..." Emily was a book-a-holic when not daydreaming the hours away. Not that there was much separation between the two when they were superficially had the same effect on her; when the real world can't hold her attention long enough, the magic of fiction will.

She swallowed embarrassingly. She always wondered what it must look like for someone to see her in one of her "moments." This was definitely an example of comeuppance. Though in a strange twist, Emily watched as the girl seemingly calmed down and returned her book without frustration. Or at least not the same amount as she had been minutes ago.

"Look, I'm sorry about that, I shouldn't have overreacted, and grabbed your book and I made it worse by yelling at you."

"No, no... It's okay. I was being ignorant and--"

Before Emily finished, the girl tossed some sweets her way. "Here you go, they are muggle sweets, just a warning."

Emily looked at them before switching glances back with the girl. What was wrong with Muggle sweets? Was it just because they weren't alive and could leap out of your hands? Or perhaps it was because they didn't have wacky effects like make your mouth breathe fire or something. In any case, she regarded them and gingerly took one. She could see the girl's want to leave but Emily politely stopped her.

"Hey, hang on... Want to share?"

Emiline heard the girls embarrassed apology and felt the guilt tug at her heart. Thud. It played with her emotions. I'm allowed to get irritated. She explained to herself.

She was so embarrassed of herself, why did she let her temper get the better of her? She was so ready to leave to situation to forget the explosion of regret and stupidness. She was so caught up in her circle of self-pity she almost didn't hear the girl.
"Hey, hang on... Want to share?"
Emiline turned back to the girl surprised. She wasn't mad at her? The girl actually didn't mind about her explosion of ignorance. See, your angry didn't ruin a potential friendship. It is not all bad. Emiline's surprised facial expression turned to one of gratitude. "Yeah, I'd like that. Thanks." Emiline smile began to widen and become more genuine. She walked over and plopped herself down on the chair opposite the girl. "So, what are all these book and stuff for?" She asked to try and start a conversation. While asking, Emiline didn't quite meet the girl's eyes and fiddled with her hair before directing her gaze to the table just before the girl, just where the girl's shadow was falling. Then after a beat, her gaze hesitantly moved up to her eyes. Emiline managed a small smile, it was obvious that she was trying to figure out if this girl -a victim to her temper- had forgiven her or not.

"I am Emiline, Emiline Hunter. I am in Hufflepuff. What house are you in?" She held out her hand with a friendly smile. If the girl shook her hand Emiline would be happy but if she didn't accept her friendship there could always be another time.If the girl decided to be rude, well then she would get a sassy retort back and loose a potential great friend.

Phew. It appeared that the girl was won over by a simple act of kindness. Emily gathered the sweets she had tossed over to her and handed some back to her, as well as shuffling over to allow her to pull a chair and sit down.

"So what are all these books and stuff for?" the girl had asked her. Emily flicked through them one by one, gesturing to each of them as she answered her.

"Well, these two here are for homework... These were for light reading... I've started taking an interest in this topic here so I've been reading this book..." Emily could honestly go on but for the sake of saving this girl from impending boredom she did her best to keep it brief, skipping a few books to do so.

"I guess I just like reading as all..."

She looked into the girl's eyes and saw that she wasn't yet exhausted from Emily's passionate book tangents. "Yet" being the operative word. She shuffled the books out of the way, thinking it must've been suffocating to be sitting at a desk with half a shelf of library books piled on top.

Emily was met with a much more friendly face as the girl extended a hand to her. "I am Emiline, Emiline Hunter. I am in Hufflepuff. What house are you in?"

Ooh. Emily had to admit that was a cute name. She shook her hand fervently. "Emily! And I'm in Hufflepuff too!"

Wait a minute.

If they were both in Hufflepuff, how come they've never seen each other - let alone interacted before -in the Common Room or the Girls' Dormitory? Was Emeline a year older or younger than her? Was that it? Or were they both fantastically good at accidentally avoiding each other? If it were the latter then that would be impressive on a whole other level.

"I feel like we would've seen each other by now..." Emily said absentmindedly.

Emiline listened carefully about what the many books on the table were for. She noted that the girl skipped some of the books. I wonder why? Maybe to save time? She pondered. The girl explained why she had so many books:
"I guess I just like
reading as all..."
Emiline grinned, this girl was a booky girl too. This confused Emiline for a beat, why did she overreact so much earlier, she was clearly zoned into the book? Something that happened often to Emiline.

The girl shook her hand warmly and introduced herself.
"Emily! And I'm in Hufflepuff too!"
....Wait, Hufflepuff? Surely, I would have seen her before. Unless she is an older year maybe.

"Well, I spend lots of my time outside in pretty much any weather! I mean I'm always outside when it's raining. It's so peaceful. This may seem weird, but I watch people's conversations and try to guess what they are saying while sketching them. Maybe that is why we haven't seen each other because we have been at opposite places the whole time “

Emiline rummaged in her right pocket, and pulled out a dog-eared, well-used notebook. "Like this..." She placed the book in front of Emily so she could glance at it. The sketches weren't amazing, but they weren't terrible either. They look like shadows
with tons of erased lines and scribbled out parts. Some of the pages were wrinkled like she had crumpled them up then smoothed them out again. Which she had. "They aren't great, but it's an interesting hobby." Emiline explained absently. She gestured
for Emily to look through the notebook if she wanted to. "Oh, also there are so writing drafts in there too which is interesting to read too."

NOTEBOOK:

The world seems so peaceful. The patter of the rain against the ground, the gentle murmur of people walking by, fading in and out as they came closer and then went away. The rain felt cool against her face. Soothing me. Telling me I was okay. Mixing my tears
in with the rain. I smiled to the heavens. I then stood up and walked slowly back towards the castle of Hogwarts. My dark hair was dripping wet, and my clothes were soaked. But I didn’t mind, the coolness of the clothes wrapped me in a hug I oh so desperately
needed. Soon, I was back inside. The warmth of the castle soon dried my clothes, and it was as if the blissful experience had never happened.

"Well, I spend lots of my time outside in pretty much any weather! I mean I'm always outside when it's raining. It's so peaceful."

Another nature lover! Alright, Emily could go ahead and forget everything prior to this stage of the conversation. If Emiline loved being outdoors then Emily was going to get along with her just fine. Assuming Emiline was as easily swayed by fellow outdoorsy people as Emily was. She beamed as Emiline talked, voicing her similar tastes with the glint in her eyes.

"This may seem weird, but I watch people's conversations and try to guess what they are saying while sketching them. Maybe that is why we haven't seen each other because we have been at different places the whole time."

"Ohh! I see...!" Emily nodded as she took in Emiline's explanation. Her reasoning did sound fair enough. Add the fact that Emily was always out surveying the grounds and feeding the animals after and in between classes during the day, as well as hiding away in the forest late in the evenings as she went searching for any signs of magical creatures, Emiline and Emily were bound to miss each other throughout the school schedule.

"I can never sit still for too long before I'm off chasing after foxes and mice to give them dinner leftovers," Emily chuckled. "Someone has to make sure they're well fed throughout the year...!"

Back on the topic of Emiline's free time, said Hufflepuff passed Emily a small notebook, pertaining to all the conversations Emiline had been taking notes on during her days. She took a polite flick through the pages where she glanced through words, scribbles and scratches of various words and phrases Emiline had written, as well as a few small paragraphs of creative writing. As someone who appreciated the art of literature, Emily was shamelessly smiling at Emiline's work.

"These are lovely... There's like a hint of profoundness in the way you write... I like it...!"

Emiline noted that Emily’s smile broadened when she mentioned being outdoors lots. Maybe she goes outside too? She listened to what Emily was saying, So, she can't sit still for long and she like animals. interesting.

She watched Emily flick through her notebook, and somehow, she made a smile show. Emiline blushed slightly when Emily complimented her writing. "Thank you, I just love writing, it transports me to another world."

Emiline then heard the rain pattering against the windows. For a moment, she just watched the rain slowly fall down the windows. Until she realised she wasn't talking to Emily. Still facing the window she spoke, "Its so pretty isn't it? Most people hate the rain, but I don't understand how they can't, Its so calming."

After what she said, she turned to face Emily."Do you have any pets, because my parents are sending me some money in December for me to buy a pet. I'm still not sure whether to get a cat or an owl."

Emiline then pulled out a scarf from one of her pockets, and put it on. The rain had made a slight chill spread through the castle and made Emiline shudder slightly. "I love autumn, it means you can dress up all cozy and drink hot chocolate. But I don't like the coldness. Anyways, what is your favourite season Emily?" Emiline smiled towards her.
