─When Amelie caught word of a club about friendship.. let's just say she couldn't have signed her name up faster. August had served the Hufflepuff nicely, as nice as a boarding school could anyway. Amongst the lingering feelings of homesickness, it wasn't half as terrible when she occupied her mind elsewhere. Fortunately in her case, Hogwarts left little room for boredom. And while Herbology had caught the girl's main affections, plants didn't exactly make for the best conversationalists. Companionship was what she needed. As it wasn’t that Amelie was entirely alone— in fact far from it. Her bright demeanor and smile had already made for a familiar face in the common room, even earning a nod or two from passing Ravenclaws in the library. Yet there was a difference between knowing faces and knowing souls. The sort of friendships she craved were deeper, the kind that could fill the small void she hadn't fully admitted to yet. In other words, the pursuit had proved a bit more difficult than she'd hoped. Amelie stepped lightly down the stone steps of the castle, the cool breeze of early September brushing against her cheeks as she made way onto the grounds. A twinge of nervousness stirred quietly in her chest, like a tremor beneath the excitement that carried her forward. Grey eyes traced petals of particularly bright Harebell along the walk, their blue hues still clinging to the late warmth of the season. Clearly she wasn't the only one trying to hold onto summer. Nearing the edge of the ground's clearing, her eyes fell upon a figure in the distance— surely the leader. They stood alone, outlined softly by the fading light that filtered through the trees. She could feel the warmth of the setting sun on her face, a reassuring presence as she closed the final distance between them. The slight nerves that once flickered were gone, now replaced by something gentler. "The shadow society, right?"

─────Normally one to work alone on devious plans to execute pranks around the castle, Annaliese surprised herself by adding her name to a sign-up for a club about mischief and friends.

The recent weeks had allowed Annaliese to settle into her new home. Despite her initial repulsion at being placed in Gryffindor, she had come to terms that there was nothing she could do and resigned herself to making the most of it, though the occasional bout of jealousy continued to occur when she saw her brother clad in green and silver.

Though the year had just started, there were many things to look forward to: Quidditch for one. Annaliese hoped to be able to secure a spot on the team, although it was unlikely. Between practicing in the mornings and exploring the castle for hiding spots and secret passageways, she hadn't had much time to make new friends.

For Annaliese, making friends wasn't high on her priority list, but it wasn't as if she was lonely. She got along well enough with her House mates, it was no denying she was an outgoing person. She had a knack for starting up a conversation with pretty much anybody, but she neglected forming real connections, favoring friendly small talk and jokes over deep conversations.

Perhaps that's why she signed up for this supposed club - it at least gave her an excuse to pull more pranks.

Glancing at the time on the small gold watch adorning her wrist, Annaliese silently cursed to herself. Of course, she was already running late. Tossing the book she had been reading on her four-poster bed, she quickly made her way through the castle, rushing down the stone pathway leading to the Grounds as the last rays of sunlight slipped beneath the horizon.

Pausing to catch her breath, Annaliese scanned the grassy expanse before her. Most students had already retired to their Common Rooms, making it easier for her to spot two figures near the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Annaliese made her way towards them, running her fingers through her mess of curls in an attempt to tame them, her heart racing in anticipation.

"I'm going to take a wild guess and assume this is hopefully the shadow society and not a cult gathering," Annaliese joked, her freckled face forming a friendly smile.

─────Taking a glance at the clock, Ruby rummaged through her closet and took out one of her hoodies. She was excited, as today was the first meeting of her new group of friends. This has always been a wish for her, be part of a group of friends. Not that she didn’t have friends, but it was nice to be part of a group. She was a rather shy girl, but could appreciate a prank or some mischief from time to time. Especially if she had some friends who could give her a little push in the right direction. As soon as she heard this from Minnie, she had accepted the offer. Now Minnie had already left, as she wanted to be there before anyone else. Ruby wondered what they would be doing first their first get-together. Probably get to know each other a little bit, she didn’t think they would get very active today. But she wouldn’t say no to it either. She decided to take Nibs with her. Her pet ferret was awake, and liked to go for a walk. It would make a great conversation subject if things got quit and she didn’t know what to say next. He could always sleep in the hood of her shirt, that was his favourite place for a nap. Come on, Nibs, time to go. Nibs ran towards her, and she picked him up and placed him on her shoulder. Lastly, she picked up some treats for him and a box of Every Flavour Beans, so she could pass some around as a snack later. She didn’t know where exactly Minnie would wait for them, but Ruby spotted her from afar. As she approached her, she saw another girl in front of her go in the same direction. Probably another member of the group. It was a nice day, although a chilly breeze gave her some shivers. She liked to be outside, it always made her feel peaceful. Very unlike the busy castle, full with other students. She could often be found strolling the grounds. She caught up with the girls, and saw another girl had joined Minnie too. Hi, Minnie! Thanks for the invitation, it was a really great idea. I’m looking forward to all our adventures together. She turned to the other girls. Hi, I don’t think we have met yet. I’m Ruby, a second year Hufflepuff. And this here is Nibs. She stroked him on the back as she introduced him to the others. I wonder who will come join us. She smiled at the other girls.

Aria was very nervous for her first meeting with the Shadow Society. This was her first club that she had joined at Hogwarts. While she had already been at Hogwarts for eleven days, she felt that she hadn't made many friends yet, so she decided to join the club.

There was a light breeze on the grounds today. Aria was very sensitive to the cold, so she pulled her Ravenclaw robe tighter around her shoulders. She walked over the grounds past the chattering students until she saw a group of girls. As she got closer she heard one of the girls talking.

I wonder who will come join us.

Aria knew this was the club. While she was super nervous, she still forced herself to walk up to the group and introduce herself.

Um... hi! Is this the Shadow Society?

Aria looked around the group. She recognized Minnie, the organizer of the club, and a few of the other girls since they were first years.

My name is Aria. So I'm going to be honest, I'm not really sure what I signed up for. What is this club exactly? Hopefully it's not some sort of devil worshipping thing?

Aria smiled at the other girls to indicate that she was joking, and secretly hoped to herself that these girls had a sense of humor.

─────Annaliese greeted the newcomer, another girl who arrived shortly after Annaliese had arrived herself. Taking note of the girl's hoodie, she silently swore to herself for not grabbing a jumper to fight off the creeping chill that overcame her as night slowly fell over the quiet grounds.

"Pleasure to meet ya. Name's Annaliese, a first year Gryffindor," Annaliese introduced herself after the new girl, Ruby, greeted them, cringing slightly at the name of her own House. Annaliese startled at the furry, slender animal that Ruby had called Nibs, still unaccustomed to students with pets other than the usual cat, owl, or frog that she had grown up to expect. "Oh! Is that a... ferret?"

The sound of incoming footsteps indicated yet another new arrival, this one clothed in Ravenclaw robes. Ah, a rule-follower. This will be interesting... Annaliese thought to herself, House stereotypes clouding her judgment. Having yet to meet a Ravenclaw that wasn't studying, she assumed the stereotypes to be true.

"No demon worshiping here, that's next week, but today we do have to pay tribute to the almighty flobberworms." Annaliese dropped her smile, doing her best to imitate a serious demeanor, yet the corners of her lips continued to twitch upward.

"Don't worry, it's not that hard. Just have to do a little dance, like this!" Annaliese tossed her tote bag to the side and dropped to the floor, wriggling her long limbs around in her best impression of a flobberworm while humming the tune to some catchy song she had heard earlier. "All hail the wizarding world's mightiest creature!"

Unable to continue the act any longer, Annaliese let out a fit of laughter as she sat up, brushing stray grass from her long curls. "I must apologize, I'm realizing this is the first time we're meeting." She smiled, having calmed down from her own amusement, crossing her legs under her.

Aria laughed out loud as Annaliese did a funny dance. Aria had learned about Flobberworms in class, and knew that they were the most boring creature in the whole wizarding world, so she thought this was a funny joke. Aria instantly took a liking to Annaliese. But before Aria had time to introduce herself, Minnie, the leader of the Shadow Society began her speech. She explained that the purpose of the club is to give all of the girls a group of friends to go on adventures with. Aria loved this idea! How fun would it be to get into some mischief with her new friends?!

I'd like you all to give me your names here, as I would like to know who to owl when I set a club meeting.

Aria took the quill first from Minnie and wrote her name down on the piece of parchment. She smiled at all the other girls, trying to show her excitement for the club!

My name is Aria Wright by the way. Ravenclaw. I know, I know. House stereotypes are pretty true, and yes, I do study A LOT, but I'd like to consider myself a bit of a trouble maker too. I mean, what's life without a little adventure right?

Aria smiled at all the girls, hoping she made a good first impression. After all, this would be her friend group for a while, hopefully!

─────Hi Aria and Annaliese! Nice to meet you. She smiled at them. Yes, this is my little furry friend, Nibs the ferret. He likes to be outside, so I decided to bring him along. It’s ok to pet him if you want. She took out a little treat for him. Next thing she knows, the girl says something about flobberworms, and drops to the floor to do some kind of strange dance. Ruby couldn’t hold herself back, and laughed. You make an excellent flobberworm! She felt right at ease with these girls. It seemed as though they had met before, and were just being silly together. It was a fun mix of the different Houses, but it seemed they complemented each other and it worked great. She was glad she had found such a nice group, where everybody could be their silly selves, and that was ok. This was a great start. She hoped this group would last forever. Minnie took out some parchment and asked them to write their names. Before she could take it from her, Aria had snatched it and wrote her name down. Ruby waited her turn and took the list from Aria as she was done. She quickly placed her name, and handed it down to the next. She picked in on what Aria was saying. Of course House stereotypes are a thing, otherwise there wouldn’t be different Houses. But that doesn’t have to be negative. Maybe you could help others with studying if they have trouble. I like a divers group, where everyone has their strengths. As long as we support each other, it will turn out great. She blushed a little after having said so much. Ok, normally I’m much more shy. And not so much a troublemaker, although a like a good prank from time to time. I just need a little nudge sometimes. This group seems like the best place to start there. As far as House stereotypes go, she hoped they wouldn’t see her as the boring Hufflepuff. But from what see could see already, they seemed relaxed and open for everyone. She looked at Minnie. I don’t think going in the Lake today is a great idea. It seems a little bit too cold .I’m good for a walk, could be trough the Forest. Haven’t been in there before, but there’s a first time for everything. Let’s see what the rest of the group thinks.

─────"Thank you, thank you very much!” Grinning, Annaliese gave the girls a little bow from where she was now sitting in response to their delighted reactions at her joke before straightening up, making an attempt to listen as Minnie took the lead, directing their focus to why they were actually there. Her attention span wasn’t the greatest but Minnie seemed to mean business so Annaliese did her best to focus, silently fiddling with pieces of grass.

As the Hufflepuff produced a piece of parchment and a quill, Annaliese noticed her quickly shoving an unknown object back into her satchel almost as quickly as it fell out. She scrutinized the girl as the other two scribbled down their names but said nothing, not wanting to jump to conclusions. Yet, Annaliese couldn’t deny the feeling of something being off about the girl, she seemed to be hiding something. She just hoped that she was wrong and it was just her trust issues acting up again.

Not having many close friends, Annaliese hoped she could get herself to take these new friendships seriously - she really enjoyed the girls thus far. They all seemed pleasant, she just had to remind herself to make an effort. Deeper connections can’t be that scary… right?

“I’m not a fan of studying, though my marks are suffering for it.” Annaliese wrinkled her nose at the thought of being cooped up in a room for hours on end pouring over textbooks. “I think House stereotypes are whatever you make them out to be. Our strengths can also be our weaknesses.”

Taking the parchment from Ruby, Annaliese added her name before handing it back to Minnie, listening as the other girl’s talked. “Don’t worry Ruby, we’ll make a troublemaker of you soon enough,” Annaliese proclaimed with a wink.

Annaliese took a look around the grounds, contemplating their options. The vast expanse of water beckoned, though the biting breeze soon deterred her as Ruby voiced the same observation. “Don’t you fancy a cold plunge at this hour?” Annaliese teased, though the thought sent shivers down her spine. She wasn’t particularly a fan of the cold.

“The Forest sounds lovely, especially at this time of night. We’re bound to come across all kinds of… surprises.” Annaliese shot up to her feet, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously.
