Mingling Bloods
Virtues were not something the Slytherin Prefect knew much of. She was growing, that much was true, but nothing assured anyone that she had any personal values. It was quite sad, because while she unleashed her sensitive side to some, her heart and mind remained cold and shielded from the rest of the world. It was nearly nothing that could break her walls down. However, a few people could reach her core, shifting her heart around and claiming it as their own. That was how she knew the friendship was real. But would she give her life for those she loved? Would she? Could that be a potential value?"To mingle friendship far is mingling bloods."
By chance did she see the Ravenclaw Prefect, Cecily Quinn, wandering the small hall at the same time as her. They were nothing but halls, for the most part, littered in portraits that had too much commentary for their own good. They spoke a lot, but could do very little. Pests. They were pests. Perhaps the intensity of Alexx would scare them off, but she couldn't be quite sure. While it was true that nothing matched her attitude when it came to the snark and pride, she wasn't all mean and tough.
Tilting her head down to nod at Cecily, she greeted her. "Hello, Cecily." She said in a hard voice. Her usual speaking voice. She could kick herself for how rude she came off. Secretly, she hoped that she didn't scare Cecily, or anyone else. She had no intentions of scaring people. "Actually- do you have a moment? I was curious if you had heard any word of a missing journal? It's no big deal, I'm sure I merely misplaced it. I keep some Prefect notes in there, you see. Wouldn't want it to fall into the wrong hands."
Alexx wasn't the clumsy type. She didn't go about misplacing things willy nilly. These things didn't just "disappear", and it caused her to have suspicions about what might have happened. Though, she knew Cecily wasn't behind this. She was merely asking because she was a fellow Prefect, and sometimes people slip things by Prefects. A word or two might have gone straight into her ear, and she wouldn't have even noticed. All Alexx wanted was to know what Cecily might know. There were logs in there- her patrol schedule, little notes she had taken, detention tracking, anything and everything. It was purely business, nothing that was wrong at all. She would not be in trouble should it end up back with a Professor. However, she wouldn't like for a student to keep possession of it. That wouldn't go down well at all.
She readjusted the satchel on her shoulder, cocking her head to the side. "Not that I think you're behind it- in fact, I know you aren't. But anything you might have heard about it would be nice. If someone happened to mention having found a journal, or any suspicious behavior... I just want it back, is all." She shrugged. It would not do her well to go about making accusations towards ayone, and surely Cecily knew that.

Cecily made her way through the Small Hall, for the most part ignoring her surroundings. She had never found this particular hall a very enjoyable place-- too loud, too busy, to uncomfortable-- but sometimes it was just easier to brave the hall than to take some sort of circuitous route through the winding castle corridors to get where she was going. Plus, if she ignored everyone else, usually they would ignore her too. It was a win-win: she didn't have to talk to them, and they didn't have to listen to her pretend to make small talk and excuse herself a little too quickly.
She heard a voice call her name and looked up. This was new-- if not for the prefect badge, she usually wouldn't even need an invisibility cloak to walk through a crowd unnoticed. The voice belonged to a fellow prefect-- Alexx Séverin, a Slytherin.
"Alexx," she responded, not unkindly. She continued on her way, but stopped as Alexx spoke once more. "A journal? No, I haven't heard anything about it, sorry. I'll let you know if I hear anything, though." The Ravenclaw gave a brief smile before moving to continue on her way. She took a step, but halted once more in her tracks. God, why couldn't she just keep to herself like she has every other day of her school career? She should just take another step, keep moving....
Cecily took a breath, already knowing what a bad idea it was to voice what she was about to say. "Actually, do you want help looking for it? I'm not busy right now-- or, ever, really." Wow, she really hated herself. Willingly accepting human interaction? Who was she? Regardless, it was too late to take back what she had said; thus, the regrettable offer stood.

She hummed, nodding. Merde! She was hoping that someone would know. A Prefect would be the only person who might have heard anything. It was really annoying. And it couldn't have come at a worse time, either! She was keeping tabs on many of things. Those who wanted the Prefect position- she was taking notes on them. Subtle qualities. All of those notes had vanished. That wouldn't hold up well in the eyes of her peers. No one could judge her for being responsible and doing her job, but they could judge her on the way she viewed how Aurelia did hers.
Offering Cecily a kind smile, she nodded. "That would be wonderful, actually!" She couldn't tell if the Ravenclaw had meant it, but right now, she didn't care. An offer was an offer. If she didn't mean it, then that should have been considered before making the offer to her. "I suppose the next best thing would be retracing my steps- perhaps even asking another Prefect if they've heard anything." She commented, nodding her head to herself. What other Prefects were there that might know, anyway? She wouldn't go hunting down any patricular one- that was too much work, and certainly unpredictable when it came to their whereabouts. A part of her, however, considered giving Grayson and Aurelia the third degree. Those two- they were always behind something, weren't they?
Turning back to the blonde girl, she smiled. "I recall leaving it on the grounds. Though I suppose it would have been taken by now, it wouldn't hurt to start there. We could even ask around to see if anyone has seen anything." It was the best suggestion that she had. There were many of people who frequented the grounds; it was popular among breaks and such. That was likely how and why it went missing, too. There were just so many people that it was easily snatched without a trace. But she couldn't shake the feeling that someone must have seen something- literally anything would help. She was almost unable to contain the way her stomach fluttered with anxiety and the way that her legs wished they could tremble and fall. It felt as though the world were a rollercoaster, and she wasn't fastened in correctly. She could throw up if she really wanted to.
But she wouldn't. Not in front of a colleague, and not in front of those passing around them. She would maintain her appearance the best that she could. It was important that she did, because whoever took this journal from her was likely up to something. She just couldn't put her finger on it. She didn't have very many enemies, after all. In fact, Alexx was quite sure that she was friends with everyone in this school. It left three possibilities. Or... Three known possibilites, anyway. Who else would have a vendetta against her? Was it a vengeful Slytherin, wishing they could have her place? Was it a known enemy who wished to kick her when she was down? Or was it someone wishing to sabotage her for no real purpose? She couldn't be sure.

Cecily smiled as Alexx accepted her offer. Apparently one way to make friends was to say things she couldn't quite decide if she regretted or not. On the one hand, awkward conversation someone she wasn't close with. But on the other hand...adventure. Since summer ended, her days had been the same routine-- food, classes, books, repeat. This was a chance to spice up the day, throw a little excitement into the year. Everyone else at Hogwarts always seemed so interesting; perhaps tracking down a lost (or stolen?) journal with a fellow Prefect constituted some level of interest.
Retracing the Slytherin's path indeed seemed like the best course of action. To the grounds it was, then. The adventure begins!
"To the grounds," Cecily agreed.
But here was the tricky part. Anyone could have taken Alex's journal if it was left outside the castle. Almost every student in the school walked on the grounds at least once in their day. This could be difficult, Cecily mused, but a time frame might narrow it down. Although finding out the schedules of every student in the school seemed like an excessive amount of work. They would just have to resort to asking around.
The Ravenclaw was reminded of a fact she had read a long time ago, in a mystery novel long forgotten. For once, it was actually relevant to her situation. "A lot of people think that we have certain mannerisms that give away when we're lying, but humans are actually very bad at picking up on deception," Cecily said. Right, because that was going to make Alexx feel better about their chances of finding this journal.
But they would find it, for sure. Cecily was confident that they would make a good team. Besides, Cecily had read so many mystery novels that she knew the ways of every detective in the game. It was finally time to put her knowledge into practice. The game was on.
