Caught Red-Handed
If there was one thing Adalacia hated about being a Prefect it was having to stay up later than everyone else in her House just to do rounds to catch the ones she thought were in bed out after curfew, then having to take points away from them. It was infuriating to say the least, considering she just wanted the best for her and her housemates. But the Gryffindors were the house of the bold and brave, they may consider rules be all end all but if they needed to sneak out past curfew to say, help a friend, they wouldn't hesitate. Of course she couldn't fault them for it, but it was in her job description to give them some form of punishment and escort them back to the Dormitories. She truly felt people were starting to hate her, despite it being their own fault for getting caught.
Another thing she hated about being a Prefect was having to search the grounds, as the dark was certainly not something she enjoyed. This night in particular no moon hung in the sky, no stars twinkled in the distance, and the outside world was as dark as could be expected, and cold. She pressed two hands against the large door, wincing as a bitter wind sliced straight through her robes and chilled her to the core. The wind brushing up against the old stone castle, and winding through the hollow halls sounded eerily like screaming people; it rose the hair on the back of her neck, imagining all the things that had gone on in this castle before her own arrival, having to shake the thought from her head before scaring herself out of her own duties.
She knew other Prefects were out in the grounds, searching for those who like to go walking past curfew, but tonight all she had to do was skirt the edges of the grounds thankfully. Slowly the young witch retracted her wand from her back pocket, twirling it in her fingers and finding comfort in the feel of the smooth wood, some notches here or there that indicated the magical tool was hers, and only hers. With a sigh she slipped out the doors fully, allowed them to close gently behind her and held her wand up to her lips, whispering "lumos" only to illuminate the figure of an unknown being, shocking a small yelp from her lips, causing her to fumble with her wand embarrassingly.
