Ballycastle Bats
It was a couple of days since their duel, and he had seen Prat more than he thought he would. He knew the boy was a little bitter about the duel, even though he had been the one to seem the most confident when they started. Ernest knew his petty remarks didn’t help, but he couldn’t help but throw them out alongside his spells.September 25th (days after Duel)
Ernest truly only had about 20 months of being deep into the wizarding world. He had kept up with the news of what was happening but besides that, he didn’t keep up with much else. Now though? He wanted to know everything. He spent so much time pouring over everything he could about Quidditch because he wanted to be able to talk for hours with Elisa about said sport.
He had even made himself a little bit of a critic of some of the times, having favorites even though he was still really new to the history. So, when Prat decided to huff at the prophet showing who was in the lead, and say, “The Ballycastle Bats are still playing, aren’t they all like 100 now?” Ernest could not keep himself from starting up an argument.
It was clear about 30 minutes ago that Prat really didn’t care about his opinion, or even the team, he was just being an arse to get the shorter riled up. That’s why even after they had finished lunch and were leaving for their free period, Ernest was still ranting at the other, “That’s why they are the second most winning team! Just look at what they did last season, snitch caught even after the seeker was nearly struck by lightening! Legendary!”

It hadn't even been half a week since they had their duel yet the guys had somehow bonded well during their stay in the infirmary. The amount of mean things they could say to each other was truly a bonding experience for them, but all Prat could think was "Hehe i won" and thinking how he called Ernest a bitch boy. Ernest seemed a little annoying to Prat at first. Specially with his over enthusiastic effort into proving whatever he believed right to be the absolute truth. In the time they had spent together Prat could somewhat understand the goblin's introduction to the wizarding world was fairly recent. This reflected in his attitude towards most wizarding things, even passing onto his passion for sports.
The topic of discussion today however was Quidditch, sure it was a fun and popular sport. Prat even had some signed merch from various teams his father had gotten over the years for him on his trips and travels. Seeing Ernest talk about the sport was fun for a while, Prat had lost this interest about it somewhere as he grew up and came to Hogwarts. To taunt him Prat even went as far as saying how the bats were all like 100 and senior citizens of the sport.
This only worked to further rile up Ernest as he went on to explain how legendary for catching a snitch even after getting hit by lightning. Sure that was impressive, but Prat's never gonna let Ernest know he agrees and instead chose to rile him up further. "If the granpas were that good they'd be number ones and not stuck at #2, we both know they can only perform against weak teams and stat pad. When it comes to real team that'll give a tough competition they chicken out and disappear into the losing end, just like their youth and skills."
As they bickered among themselves, they walked right into Ronan, an year one Prat had met earlier some time in the school upon his return after the vacations. Deciding to settle things, Prat asked Ronan his opinion and seeing what Ernest's reaction to Ronan would be. It's not everyday snakes and lions come together to hold a peaceful discussion. Afterall, most Gryffindorks were somehow against Snakes passively as if it was Slytherin's fault for being better.

xxxGRYFFINDOR FIRST YEAR BALLEYCASTLE BATSBetween a lion and a fireplace 25th of September
xx The first month at Hogwarts had almost come to an end, and to Ronan's surprise, he hadn't managed to break something during class yet. Despite his reluctance to acknowledge it, Ronan admitted to being late for Herbology class a few times, a situation that caused him embarrassment as his classmates inquired if he had lost his way on the grounds. Ronan detested the strange stares from his classmates the most.
It had been a few hours since classes had ended, and now Ronan was sitting on the second floor of the castle, trying to study a bit of his Defense Against the Dark Arts homework, away from prying eyes from the other students. He preferred studying alone, mostly because Ronan got easily distracted if there were people around him; so far he'd managed to spend an entire bottle of ink. Half a parchment was now full of words about the Cure for Bolis potion, and he'd even spent time writing up all the ingredients and copying them over from the book Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger. He stacked a few books he'd borrowed from the library on top of each other. One of these books was The Tales of Beedle.
Finally, Ronan decided that he'd done enough homework for today and began gathering his things as he started making his way out on the corridors. He strolled past several dynamic portraits en route to the Gryffindor common, carrying his book and, most importantly, his parchment, which he would dedicate most of his post-class hours to writing on. At that moment he heard some voices; one sounded a bit more familiar than the other. As the voices came closer, Ronan looked away from the portraits, so his eyes were now focused on the two students ahead.
He noticed that Prat was with another Slytherin student. Ronan frowned his eyebrows and nodded to the other Slytherin standing beside Prat, as he had listened in on their conversation. Ronan's expression remained unchanged as he listened to Prat's discussion about the youth, who appeared to have less experience; to his surprise, he spoke without hesitation. ''What?! Isn't it just a matter of experience? I'm sure that everyone can be good.'' Ronan spoke in a tone of shock. xxStamina 5♞Evasion 6♞Strength 5♞Wisdom 6♞Arcane Power 6♞Accuracy 7

Prat might have won their duel, but it really was anyone’s match until Ernest was lit on fire. He had to throw away the tie he was wearing that day, he half-heartedly believes that Prat made that spell stronger just to inconvenience him more than anything else. His new tie was too perfect, and there were none of the rumpled marks from being thrown down on his desk after class like the other one he was adorned with.September 25th (days after Duel)
Prat had more to say about how the Ballycastle Bats weren’t the best, hearsay he thinks, but before Ernest could even think of a response, he was asking another boy his opinion. The boy, a baby-faced Gryffindor kid, was familiar to him, having sat by them once or twice he thought. Ernest couldn’t help but roll his eyes as his conversation was stretched to fit one more. He figured the kid wouldn’t even know half of what the team did, but maybe he did know something.
What wizard didn’t know anything about quidditch? He thought maybe the muggle-borns wouldn’t but it would be a bigger slap in the face for one of them to decide to not only claim a spot in the wizarding world but to also not even take the time to look into some wizarding culture.
Ernest curled his lip up at the boy’s response, “What kind of ‘Everyone is great’ bullshit was that?” He grumbled out, he stepped closer to the boy in red, looking him up and down. “Do you even know how the ballycastles are?” He mumbled the last sentence, already drawing a conclusion in his mind. Was this boy a muggleborn?

The duels results were as significant as Prat's wishes the time to wanted his Father's lion to eat his finger as a joke. Nonetheless Prat knew it gave him bragging rights on Ernest and Ernest despised putting himself in that situation.
To Ernest Prat acted like he had everything in the bag and was never unsure of his eventual victory, however to himself he knew how glad he was that fortune favored him that day. He knew what it's like to have everything go against you in a duel. It hadn't been a even a month since his duel before Ernest's.
Making fun of Ballycastle Bats was just another way of Prat interacting with his new found friend. Being nice and kind was hard, simply challenging people's opinions or being a tad bit rude or mean felt like a faster way for Prat to gather attention and have people notice them. Being mean came as easy as breathing even though he had his fair share of niceness in him.
But the event right now? Preposterous. 'What?! Isn't it just a matter of experience? I'm sure that everyone can be good.'' What did the brown ginger bread even mean by that? Prat was bamboozled. What the hell did that mean? If everyone was "good" we'd not have any competition. No house cups, no quidditch championship, no duels no rivalries no motivation. No desire to surpass another and most of all, No sense of motivation.
Looking visibly disgusted by his comment Prat put a gentle hand on his shoulder, looking down at him and going."Where is your motivation?".
