JOURNAL Solo Letters To No One

Dad,

I miss you. That's all I can really think right now, If I was going to be totally honest. I miss you, and Dainty Darling, if only they allowed Hippogriff's as pets here I'd bring her and I could just fly away when I started to feel stuck. I'm forever grateful you rescued her for me, she was always my escape when things felt suffocating and you were always my best friend... I know you said I would find new best friends once I started school here, people like me, and they are all super nice (at least, the one's I've knowingly interacted with) but it just doesn't feel the same. No one talks about Magical Creatures like I do, or knows as much about them as I do. No one loves History of Magic as much as me, unfortunately, and most of the first years here seem more focused on their friendships instead of school which I don't want to be judgmental, but when will things get better? When will I find someone with the same... I don't know drive as me?

Anyway, all my classes are going good! So far I've gotten two assignments back, one in History of Magic and the other in Potions, both with outstanding marks which I am SO excited about. Could you tell mom for me? I'll send you another letter when I get my Charms mark back, and that one I definitely want you to show to mom because I won't except anything below and outstanding.

How's little Judd? Is he still sucking his thumb? I can't wait until he's old enough to experience all this, save for the dramatics of my social life it's a pretty great school with a lot of opportunity for learning. The library is so big, just like you said and I think I'm really enjoying my flying classes, maybe I'll try out for Quidditch next year... I don't know if I'll be any good but hey, I'm your daughter so that's got to be worth something, right?

See you on the other side, Popo.

Love,

L.V.S.P.

The young girl sighed as she set aside her pen, delving into her pocket to pull out a red ribbon and tying the letter up tightly. She hoped her father would write back, because she knew he was busy but at least he bothered to communicate with her unlike mum who only ever was a topic of brief subject in her and her father's letters. Well, it didn't really matter. Handing the rolled up letter to a carrier owl, she stroked gentle fingers along it's grey wing and smiled gently, watching as it took off with a soft hoot into the evening sky.

"I'll see you in 335 days, dad."

JOURNAL Solo Letters To No One
To no one I guess,

Mum sent a letter, surprisingly. She never liked talking to me face to face let alone through a letter that she physically has to write. Alas she wrote to tell me you won't be answering much, probably not at all because you're off on business for the next four or five months. I asked her for your address, but she told me you're travelling. You don't have a solid address, my letters would miss you even if the owl could sort of pin point your location. Mum is deterring me from talking to you, I'm not an idiot I can tell, I just don't know why.

Why, Popo? You take care of abandoned Magical Creatures, you don't have any reason to go on a business trip. I should have guessed something was up when you didn't return a letter after my last one, but this is heartbreaking. Please, just tell me the truth, and I'll tell you the truth. You see things are getting better for me, I'm the Prefect for Gryffindor now - but you didn't expect that one coming, and I also love my History of Magic class. I'm an O average, with a couple E's (but that's only because I was being a little lazy, because guess what Popo? I've made friends.)

Lucette is a friend, she's the Prefect for Slytherin. She's someone I actually enjoy talking to, just like I enjoy talking to you. I love you Popo, I miss talking to you, I miss opening your letters and seeing your handwriting, listening to you talk about all the Creatures and what they're up to, little Judd and his shenanigans. Mum won't tell me if Judd has started riding the Hippogriff's yet, or how Dainty Darling is doing, she doesn't even say I love you.

I need you, please come back.

Love,
L.V.S.P
She wiped a tear off her cheek with the sleeve of her sweater, rolling up her letter and handing it off to he owl. It stared at her, head cocking side to side as if not sure what to do with it. Her intentions were clear, but her father was everywhere and nowhere. "I don't know." She sighed, staring the owl down as she forced the tears away, throat burning "Just find him." With that, she was gone and so was the owl, off into the night sky in search of Charles Podmore.

Unbeknownst to his young daughter back at Hogwarts, the owl did find him. Tucked away in a bed at St. Mungo's hospital, getting his blood taken and reading her letter with tear filled eyes and a strained heart.

Because he knew that he could never write back.
