As much as the huffle liked to assure herself otherwise..
She did not know where she was going.

To give her credit, Amelie had never been one for good cardinal sense. Getting lost amongst the halls of her family estate was hardly a challenge, leaving the brooding corridors of Hogwarts as no exception. Each one the same as the last, the same crumbling walls of cobblestone that could leave a person wondering how it still stood without the use of magic. Even the portraits that seemed to stare as she passed, painted faces of wizards that all appeared to be a bit too haunting. Consensus? There was no waypoint to be found.

Despite it, giving up was nowhere in her cards. Small footsteps echoed softly against the floor as she weaved her way in and out, trying to maintain the same air of confidence her peers appeared to breathe. It had all become painfully apparent that more attention should have been paid during her orientation, at least then could she comprehend how tedious the constant shifting would be.

Of course, the girl wasn't completely daft, nor did she have pride against admitting where she'd been wrong. The only goal now was to reach library, aided all by a few muttered words a third year offered after being uninterestedly tapped on the shoulder.

Take a left at the suit of armor, then a right after- stumbling into someone?

Well that definitely wasn't right.

Caitriona attempted to walk through the halls of Hogwarts as if she knew what she was doing. That seemed easy enough right? However, there was one main challenge: Caitriona most certainly did not know what she was doing.

To be fair, it was her first week living at the magical school. On the first day the Hufflepuff girl had learned the location of her dormitory, the common room, the grounds, and the Great Hall. That was it. If you were to ask her directions pertaining to any other location you would be out of luck. Those four places were the only ones that stuck.

It was a small dilemma given that Caitriona had more responsibilities than eating, sleeping, and Flying class (unfortunately.) For instance, her other classes were spread throughout the castle. Although she had miraculously managed to arrive at Charms class on time, retracing her steps back to the Hufflepuff common room was not so easy. She could swear she had passed those suits of armor on the way up. Were there multiple clusters of foreboding knights in the castle? Caitriona did not doubt it.

Despite her upbringing in a magical family, the castle had many attributes that puzzled the 11-year-old greatly. For instance, the moving staircases seemed to cause more confusion than ease of movement. It was so easy to get caught up daydreaming on one and forget to get off. Riding a staircase was not too different than how she imagined riding a carriage drawn by flying horses. The flying horses would probably be less temperamental if she thought about it.

Caught up in her thoughts, Caitriona chose to neglect looking in the direction she was going. Soon enough, the reward for her careless behavior came in the form of an "Ow!" The young witch caught herself with her hands before the bottom hit the floor. "I'm so sorry!" She looked up to see what, no, who had been the target of her clumsiness.

Grace was often a quality Amelie possessed, though clearly that skill found itself elsewhere today. Instead, replaced by a foreign clumsiness that had presented itself upon the moment of her arrival. Derailed by her sudden lack of awareness, she glanced down at the girl sprawled on the floor beneath her. Not much older if she had to guess, a clue only given away by her short stature. The victim's face however remained a mystery. Words of an apology still managed to escape her, causing the Hufflepuff to wince slightly in embarrassment. "Jinx."

The sheepish attempt at a joke would have to be forgiven, leaving it to her to always challenge the uncomfortable. Holding out a hand, it was only then did she get a proper look at the small blonde. Yellow accents entwined into her robe, a sign that perhaps this wasn't as unfortunate as it seemed. "Amelie Halstead, Hufflepuff." An introduction was offered in hopes of easing the awkwardness, while the stating of her house was purely for conversational sake. Amelie couldn't be sure how common the practice of going around announcing it was; but then again, Hogwarts was all one for pride. She bit her lip, a futile attempt to prevent her from saying more. "First year, if that much wasn't already obvious." It simply couldn't be helped.
