It was "Take Two" of the journey to Hogwarts - Boarding the train for her second year of Hogwarts, Emily was raring to go. Another bittersweet farewell with "Auntie," and another long train ride back to Hogwarts. By pure chance - or even perhaps by pure fate - she managed to find her empty spot from last year, the same carriage and seats she sat at during her train ride to Hogwarts all the way back at the start of her first year. She took a seat by the window and in a flash her memories from that special day came back.
She remembered sitting by the window, reading her book as she tried to keep calm and relaxed despite the revelations of being a witch despite her background. And then Emmanuel came in with his split bag, shuffling into the carriage with her. And just like that the two of them bonded, like they were made for each other. Her first friend. Yet he had disappeared off the planet half way through their first year. She knew he was a studious guy but she couldn't help but feel something happened to him.
She sighed softly. She didn't want to seem needy or clingy - Casey's favourite word, she chuckled half-heartedly - but she really did miss Manny. It was almost poetic to be sitting in the place where they first met without him. Her conscience could've been eased slightly if Scout was sitting with her, that way it wouldn't feel so perturbing. Though Scout could've done with a break after having looked out for the Puffie for so long. The last thing Emily wanted was for Scout to feel like she was babysitting her just because she had more of a backbone than Emily herself did. Emily had enough on her mind as it was; she had to hurry back to the Forbidden Forest to continue her scouting expeditions and learn more of the abyss. She had books to devour in the Hogwarts Library for research into the tales that came to light last year. She even had a finger tied to helping Casey track down his "maybe dead, maybe not-dead" brother.
She melted back into the cushion of her seat as she stared blankly out the window, watching the world whizz by past her. She already felt her body relax a little bit. Once again, Mother Nature had come to her rescue. Her worries were shovelled to the back of the her head and a breath of content exhaled out of her.
Just enjoy the train ride. One thing at a time, as everyone says.

As Elvenia stepped onto Platform 9¾, the familiar thrill of magic filled her senses. The ordinary bustle of King’s Cross Station fell away behind her as she walked through the barrier, and the hidden world of Hogwarts revealed itself in a burst of enchantment. The platform was alive with energy and excitement, a vibrant contrast to the everyday world she had just left.Interacting with @Emily Shephard & @Aston Beckett

Elvenia stood eagerly on Platform 9¾, her heart brimming with anticipation. Ready for the adventures that awaited her in her second year at Hogwarts. She glanced around at the bustling activity—students hugging their families goodbye, excited chatter filling the air as new and returning students eagerly discussed their upcoming adventures. The atmosphere was a delightful mix of anticipation and joy, a perfect introduction to the new school year.
She hugged her parents tightly, soaking in every last moment of their encouragement before boarding the train. “Remember to keep focused this year,” her father said with a warm smile. “But don’t forget to have fun too!” Her father ruffled her hair playfully, adding, “And write to us when you get a chance, alright? We want to hear all about your second year adventures.” said her mother.
Elvenia nodded eagerly. “I will! I can’t wait to dive back into everything. I’ve missed Hogwarts so much!” With a final wave, she climbed aboard the train, her heart racing with anticipation. The familiar rhythmic clatter of the Hogwarts Express felt like a comforting hum, wrapping her in a sense of belonging.
The train was alive with the buzz of students—some reuniting with friends, others settling into compartments. The golden hues of the setting sun streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow over the lively scene. As Elvenia moved down the corridor, she felt a mix of excitement and nostalgia. Her first year had been a whirlwind of new experiences and challenges. Now, in her second year, she felt more confident, yet the thrill of returning to Hogwarts still tingled in her chest.
As she peeked into different compartments, she noticed a girl sitting alone, staring out the window with a thoughtful expression. Her long brown hair was tied in a ponytail, and her hazel eyes reflected the golden light filtering through the glass. The girl’s quiet demeanor contrasted with the bustling energy around them, but something about her calm presence drew Elvenia in.
Elvenia paused for a moment, debating whether to join her or continue searching for other familiar faces. But something told her that sitting with this girl might be just what she needed—a fresh start to the year with someone new.
Stepping forward, Elvenia slid open the compartment door, the girl looked up, her hazel eyes warm with curiosity but tinged with surprise. Elvenia offered a bright smile “Mind if I join you?”

Aston really can't believe it was time for his second year at Hogwarts already, it feels like his first year has gone by so so quickly. All the new memories and experiences were fantastical, and now he's going back for more. And instead of worrying about what house he ends up in and whether he'll do well he can watch the first year do that this year. Oh Aston can't wait for the opening feast again, he said goodbye to his father and gave him a hug, with promises of frequent owls during his time at school. "Bye dad I'll send you letters! Take care of yourself!"Then he stepped onto the train, beginning his journey to find a compartment to stay in.
It felt like everyone had already found a compartment with all their friends, Aston was hoping he would find some people he knew back at the train station but that didn't happen. The loud noises were really starting to get to him, was it this loud last year? His problem and worry soon had a solution as he found a familiar face sitting in a mostly empty compartment. Emily! The friendly and smart Hufflepuff girl he had the fortune of studying with in Astrology class last year. A girl he didn't know was also there but Aston had stopped being very worried about talking to strangers after last year. "Hi Emily, it's been a while, do you mind if I join you? So many of the compartments are already filled with people."

It was that moment when Emily was starting to relax that two students approached her carriage. She sat up properly as one came in, followed shortly by the other.
The first was a girl that Emily didn't recognise or if she did, she didn't know well. Nevertheless, when asked to join her, Emily welcomed her in with her usual friendly tone. "By all means! Please, take a seat...!"
She watched as the girl took a spot inside. Emily was about to introduce herself when the second student walked in. This time, it was someone Emily knew. She beamed at the pleasant surprise.
"Aston!" Her Astronomy buddy!
"Hi Emily, it's been a while, do you mind if I join you? So many of the compartments are already filled with people."
"Not at all! Do take a seat and join us!"
She waited until Aston sat down before addressing the girl that sat with them. "I'm Emily. A pleasure to meet you." She outstretched a hand for the girl to shake.
"I trust you had a good summer holiday, the both of you. Summer camp felt so long ago, hasn't it Aston?" If she was remembering well, she had seen Aston a few times at summer camp, although the pair had seldom spoken to each other during that time. No doubt Aston had been having the time of his life while Emily was busy playing emotional tug-of-war with Casey. In retrospect, she lightly laughed at those times.

☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅•···············•✦Elvenia approached the girl and asked if she could sit down. The girl nodded with a friendly smile, telling Elvenia, she could of course sit down with her and Elvenia gratefully took the seat across from her.
As she settled in, Elvenia glanced out the window, watching as the platform slowly began to disappear from view. Just as she was getting comfortable, the door to the compartment slid open again. A boy, probably around their age, stepped in, his face lighting up when he saw the girl across from Elvenia. It was clear that they knew each other well. The boy's name, she learned, was Aston.
Elvenia gave a warm smile as Aston took a seat beside the girl. There was something comforting about being surrounded by fellow second years, even if she hadn’t met them before. The girl seemed delighted by Aston's arrival, and Elvenia couldn’t help but feel a sense of friendship among the three of them.
Emily, the girl Elvenia had just met, introduced herself properly, and Elvenia felt it was the perfect time to do the same. Elvenia smiled, "I'm Elvenia Moonshadow, pleasure to meet you too!" There was a slight pause after her introduction.
Emily soon broke the silence by asking how their summer holidays had been. Emily’s question about their summer holidays brought a pause in the conversation. Elvenia thought back to her summer, filled with stargazing, reading, and the competitions her father always encouraged. It had been a summer of exploration and learning, and she couldn’t help but smile at the memories. The summer had been filled with moments that blended the warmth of family with the thrill of magic. She glanced at Aston, curious about how his summer had gone but mostly focusing on how to answer.
Elvenia nodded, a bright smile on her face. "Yes! It was a blast, had lots of fun." The memories of her summer adventures filled her with warmth, and she couldn’t wait to see what the new school year would bring.

Aston smiled at Emily's friendly response and took the seat next to her. The unfamiliar girl sat across from Emily and introduced herself after Emily did, Aston followed soon after. "I'm Aston, Aston Beckett, a second year Ravenclaw, you are too right? I think I've seen you around before. Elvenia, that's a nice name, it sounds nice." Everyone was being friendly and smiling, a good start to the new school year Aston is so excited about.
"Oh yeah it feels like it's been so long already, camp was amazing. I loved watching the sports. Were you there too Elvenia? I went to do the battle of the season and once had three water balloons aimed for me at once, I ended up really wet." The whole summer camp was really cool and nice, it was the first time he ever went to anything like it! "Oh and the opening feast was really good! I loved the food, and it was the first time I've been ice skating in ages. I was really glad to see I was still good at it. What events did you guys do at camp?" The topic really brought a smile onto Aston's face. Even though Hogwarts was great Aston was very happy to be at home with his dad for a while, pity that the holidays is, or at least felt, so short.

"Oh! You were at the Battle of the Seasons event? I didn't know that, Aston! I'll bet it was fun though!" Emily settled in as the three of them continued to talk with one another. "I was a part of the Mistletoe Spin and the Enchanted Exchange myself. Someone got me this beautiful snow globe for me as part of the event! It's sitting on my window back home...!" She still had yet to find out the kind soul who got her that gift. Incidentally, she was praying the poems and posters she wrote for her mystery exchangers were enough to grant them that same satisfaction.
She reminisced at a glance over her time at camp. She couldn't remember the last time she had such a good summer, even if it was at a winter wonderland. She thought back to reuniting with Scout, her continuous run-ins with Casey, the time the two bonded and finally became allies - if not friends - it was all a rewarding feeling in the end.
"I can say in confidence however that there was some false advertising when they said it was summer camp though," Emily suddenly said as she got lost in thoughts. She giggled after the words left her mouth. "I don't remember the last time I had to wrap up warm for the summer!" And that was saying something considering she had been born and raised in one of the most poorly weathered cities in the world, where the sunniest periods only last a day or two before it gets cloudy again.

☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅•···············•✦
☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅•···············•✦Elvenia listened carefully as Aston and Emily shared their experiences from the summer camp. Aston’s tale of getting drenched by water balloons during the Battle of the Seasons made her chuckle. "Oh my, that must have been a sight!"
Emily’s story about the Mistletoe Spin and her beautiful snow globe she recieved as a gift made Elvenia smile. She could tell they had both enjoyed their time at camp, and she couldn’t help but feel a small bit of regret. It sounded like an incredible adventure filled with fun memories and new friendships.
As they shared their memories, Elvenia felt a little left out. She hadn’t gone to the camp like them, though she really wanted to. But this summer had been different for her.
Her grandmother, Cordelia had fallen very ill and Elvenia had to stay home with her family to help out. It was a hard time but also brought her family closer together. Elvenia spent her days playing games with her younger siblings, making sure they were happy during such a tough time. They played wizard chess, hide and seek in her mansion, and even a magical version of tag that her father had taught them. In quieter moments Elvenia would go to the library, getting lost in books or she’d stargaze at night, making her feel happy and relaxed.
When Aston asked if she had been at camp, Elvenia finally answered, "I wish I was but my grandmother was very sick, so I stayed home to help my family....but I still had lots of fun with my siblings and spent time reading many novels and stargazing, stargazing has been my passion since I was a kid ya know" Elvenia said smiling softly.

"Oh a snow globe? That sounds really nice, I never owned one, they look pretty. I did consider joining but I was worried about if I could give a nice enough gift. I was never great at gift giving." Aston smiled at Emily's fond words about summer camp, Aston certainly had a great time there, despite what happened at the mistletoe spin. "Ah I was at the mistletoe spin too! We must have been in different groups, when I signed up for it I thought it was just a normal ball, but no, I ended up kissing a girl on the hand, it was a nice time." Aston decided against telling them about how he punched a girl out of rage from her attempt to jinx Kenzie, he doesn't want that kind of embarrassing things to be known to everyone, though a solid amount of people already know about it.
Aston nodded and laughed with Emily when she talked of the weather at summer camp, the snow was beautiful, though he would be lying if he said it didn't make him a little bit home sick. Elvenia talking about stargazing brought his mind back to the train. "Oh that's a pity, but at least she's all better now right? It's nice to spend time with family, that's what I think. Stargazing sounds really nice, lemme guess, Astronomy is your favourite class at Hogwarts? I do enjoy it, even though I don't do it in my spare time." Can't believe it's been almost three years since I last saw mom, I wonder how she is doing...

Emily was in a mix of sympathy and awe when Elvenia talked about her ailing grandmother. It was indeed always an admirable and respective trait to look after one's kin. It's something Emily has yet to experience for herself. If her parents actually decided to come home for every damn once in a while then maybe there would be a chance to be honourable in such a sense. And with the way spoke of her family in general - though ever so slightly envious, Emily loved how pleasant it sounded to be surrounded by family.
"That still sounds lovely, Elvenia," she commended sweetly. "I've always felt that there's no greater time spent with someone than their own family."
It'll take until my family's shared tomb before I get to feel what that's like.
On the talk of the Mistletoe Spin, Emily smiled and shrugged a little in an "Oh well" sense as Aston mentioned his attendance at the event. "Aw, it's a pity we weren't in the same group. I hugged a nice boy from Beauxbatons and managed to get dripped on by a melting candle." She laughed at the tail end of her sentence.
Astronomy then crawled into the conversation. Quite ironic, if not poetic in a way that Emily would be riding with one of her classmates whom she met in her Astronomy class. "Remember the little reading session we had together, Aston? It was cool deciphering and uncovering the origins of the Solar System!"
And that was coming from someone who adored the derivation of concepts. And was proud to be such.
