It would be very difficult for the sixth year to mask her surprise at how easily the spell flowed out of her wand as she hardly breathed, 'Meteolojinx.' A small gasp would then emanate from her slightly-parted lips as she watched the raincloud take form, a far stronger form than she could have even hoped for.

Quickly jolted from her reverie by Colin's exceptional cast of Petrificus Totalus, Koko did her best to scurry out of the incoming spell's way. The fire still raged on her clothes, but it seemed her movement was beginning to put out the flames. She moved a bit more. This entire experience was making her realise that she would really have to train her evasive skills for Quidditch next year... but that was a problem for next year, not now.

Koko's relatively pleasant expression morphed into one of confusion, her brow drawing together and her amber eyes narrowing as she witnessed... what, exactly? Colin was shaking head and saying something, clearly enjoying the rain, but even as Koko stood dumbly, her wand arm now at her side, she couldn't help but blink at the boy, one question resonating in her mind:

'I'm sorry, but what in Merlin's beard is an UwU?'

Cass had no idea what an "UwU" was either. Perhaps some strange animals noise? Either way, the pressing question seemed to distract Koko from dodging, and when Colin sent off his next spell she was easily hit with the Flippendo. She got knocked back a couple places, and still didn't have any further knowledge on the topic of "UwU". Perhaps if she beat Colin in this duel he would tell her. The odds were certainly in her favour, but Colin was holding his own. He deserved a cheer of his own now, so Cass gave him one. He seemed to be enjoying his personal rainstorm, which was making Cass slightly jealous. It seemed like the perfect thing to cool off in, but they guessed it would have some yet to be revealed dueling purpose that would be much less fun to be on the receiving end of.

Koko seemed to be following Colin's lead, and fired back another Flippendo. It seemed to be a popular spell today. Unfortunately for her though, while her casting wasn't bad, Colin dodged out of the way of the spell easily. Be hard-to-hit seemed to be a personal talent of his, and it was serving him well.

"WOO! Come dance in the rain with me Koko!" Colin sang out. "Put out your fires and cool off!" He hopped about the piste thoroughly enjoying himself! Who knew duelling in the rain could be so much fun? He was absolutely soaked through and positively energised by the sensation! Colin heard Koko cast the same spell! Still dancing about joyfully, he caught sight of their magic's shimmering flow as the spells were flung back and forth. Koko's spell zipped by him while Colin's own hit Koko square on! Even Cass cheered for him the way he had Koko hardly a minute before! Colin was practically vibrating with energy, just being in the present moment!

CLAAIIRRR! he thought, knowing she could hear him, but unsure if she were listening. This is sooooo brilliant! We should duel some time! In the rain! Visions of his girl Clair swirled around his mind! He imagined Cass moderating their duel out on the grounds somewhere in a raging storm! It would be so much fun! He would seriously have to talk with Clair about this! Which, of course, meant he'd actually have to find her, track her down, and then actually talk to her!

"OWOOO!!!"

Colin was psyched now! He still had to concentrate, but he was in the present moment and whether he won or lost or died trying, that's what really mattered!

No one ever talked about how embarrassing it was to be being beaten by a smaller child.

Well... younger. But still, the sentiment remained. Koko was seventeen; she ought to have enough experience to avoid getting knocked about like some bloody imbecile! She and Colin cast the same spell, but even as Koko moved her wand, she swore it was futile: the boy dodged like it was nothing at all. Had anyone ever told him that this evasive ability of his was vexing? If not, perhaps he needed to find out.

The cloud she had so masterfully created seemed to be mocking her from across the piste, crying sad little fake tears as it very rudely caused Colin no harm. In fact, she seemed to have done him a favour by sending a rainstorm at him. He seemed to enjoy it, and she had had a harder time hitting him since. This was hardly fair!

The seventeen-year-old stared forlornly at Colin dancing in the rain, and she fathomed, for a moment, that he might be right. But the fire was gone...

As she stared, she did not even deign to evade. The spell hit her squarely, and she felt herself fly backwards, a French swear caught between her lips as the spell's impact forced air out of her diaphragm. The girl sputtered, surprise overtaking any semblance of vocabulary she might have previously. If she weren't careful, Colin would soon prove he had 101 ways to wipe the floor with her.

Once again both duelists cast spells that were basically legendary from the tiny (though they would object to being called this) first years perspective. Colin was the first to go with mimblewimble, which sounded extremely satisfying to say. Probably extremely satisfying to cast as well, especially on that one friend who never shut up. Which was probably them in most situations. Either way though, Koko wouldn't be shutting up (or at least not by force) right this minute. She narrowly managed to dodge the spell, though it was just a mere few inches away from hitting her.

The narrow miss must have thrown her off her own casting or something, because she failed to even hurl the spell at Colin. Now Cass wouldn't get to see the really cool effects it could have done! They were kind of hoping for some explosions. Explosions would be very cool. Hopefully not Colin being exploded, but something exploding in his face would be very funny to them. Could the hospital wing cure someone being exploded? There was only one way to find out.

Their probably very dangerous train of though was cut off however, by the sad little raincloud finally deciding to make its presence known. Cass yelped and almost fell over backwards when Colin was struck by lighting of all things, which they didn't think was very fun for him. Then again, they had never exactly tried being struck by lightning before...

For someone who had once prided herself on her capacity for nonviolence, Koko's temperament had truly changed over the years. Perhaps as she inched closer to her seventh year, she was embodying the temperamentality her mum had warned her about.

It wasn't the type of thing that would faze her. Narrowing her eyes to clear her mind, she waved her wand and muttered the first high-level duelling spell that came to mind: 'Confringo.'

Her glower only intensified when the spell fizzled out. However, she was still able to narrowly side-step Colin's mimblewimble, and upon properly looking at him, her expression softened. Right. He was something of an acquaintance, a younger almost-friend who needed to be protected. It was a good thing, then, that she had not been able to cast the spell. If she had dealt such inimical damage towards him, she would have been just as bad as the spiders of her youth or the other horrors of Hogwarts.

And he was a kid. Her almost-friend. Who was she to deal out hurt? Who was she to decide violence was necessary?

'Pick on someone your own size,' people liked to say. People, then, were correct.

Koko glanced down at her wand and then back up at Colin. Too prideful to state an apology, she still hoped something in her gaze would convey her sudden apprehension regarding this situation, her sudden guilt for the attempt at a very damaging spell.

Yes, this was a duel; however, it was a friendly duel. No maiming allowed. All positive affirmations retained.

'Good cast!' Koko said genuinely. 'Although, I'm glad it didn't hit me. Then I couldn't comment on it.'

Colin tried to cast mimblewimble on Koko again. And again she just managed to dodge out of the way! Most annoying! But Colin was having too much fun to be annoyed for long. Plus! It was still raining on the piste and the cool water was refreshingly calming! He shook his head, sending water droplets scattering in all directions. He smiled at her compliment, for it was genuine. Yet he kept quiet for now. His keen ears picked out the spell Koko was cooking up.

Confringo.

That didn't sound good! Colin, still dancing about in the rain, thankfully didn't have to face it! Her miscast served as a reminder, though. Koko was a sixth year and as such could have turned him into a matchstick without even thinking about it! Thus far she'd been toying, and it was becoming clear that

BANG!!!

A single peal of thunder and flash of light accompanied the jolt of lighting from Colin's little storm cloud!

"Yeeep!" Colin squeaked! The lightning zapped him right in the chest, singing a hole in his shirt! Colin had no idea the little cloud could pack such a punch! He took that as a signal that their duel was somehow now in its second phase. Koko could send him to hospital or an early grave with the right spell. Colin knew: it was time to step it up! He took his position for the next cast!

As much as she was physically doing fine, Koko wondered if sometimes duellists, real duellists, suffered mental fatigue from slinging spells at each other for hours at a time. Her botched attempt at casting a blasting curse still resonated within her, the idea that she could very well fail something, or backfire it, or simply actually hurt someone due to general carelessness and lack of precision.

She wouldn't do it again, if that were any consolation. For herself, for Colin, for Cass. She told herself it was just because she didn't want to fail, but more than that, she supposed she just really, really didn't want to explode anyone. That was too much.

Koko kept her gaze on Colin, a small smile toying on her lips as she saw how much fun he was having in the rain, and so surprised was she by the apparent peace he was in that she almost didn't see the incendio duo coming.

Flames burst out of Colin's wand and headed straight towards her. Her eyes went wide, and she hesitated before rushing to the side, glad to see the flames shoot past her instead of ending up in her face. It took her a moment to clear her mind before she mumbled, 'Spongify.'

The neat thing about these practice duels was that there were a lot of spells Koko had never really gotten to see up-close in practice. Spongify was one of them. The spell landed somewhere near Colin's wand, she wasn't really sure—all she knew was that she grimaced in sympathy, having to force herself not to think about how it might feel to have her hand turned into jelly.

The raincloud above his head left him alone for now; he could easily continue to dance in the rain if he wished.

Drat!

Koko's eyes widened and she just managed to dodge Colin's fire. At least it was well cast, which Colin could be proud of as he continued to dance about in the rain. He wondered: where does all the water go? Maybe they'd learn more about how magic actually works as they got older! For now, it was enough to just make the magic happen.

His opponent's spell hit, though. He wasn't sure where at first. "Oi! Me wand's gone all flobber wormy!" But it became apparent that poor Naur-an-Edraith took the hit! His wand suddenly felt a bit more wiggly than usual! It felt like a licorice wand in his hand --- and that couldn't possibly be good! He just hoped that it wouldn't start spewing sugar all over the piste!

Right.

Or worse, backfire and cause Colin to set himself on fire! ... Again.

Colin shook the rain from his hair, readying for the next brilliant move. He shook his wand a bit. It wobbled. Colin laughed. “Better hope it doesn’t send you flying through the door, Koko!” he teased. Colin narrowed his eyes and made his stance. Even with a floppier than usual wand, he had a good feeling about the next round.
