It didn't take long for Marco to locate the library.
It was hard to hide his shock at the sheer size of the place. A seemingly endless amount of knowledge- for free! This was heaven, surely. Fixing his collar, the boy wandered inside in search of his books of interest. He had been required to buy a certain amount of textbooks before his year began, but he found that usually the sole book didn't cover all the information he'd need. Plus, now he had much more access to wizard knowledge than he had previously. Of course, being in a pureblood home, he was very aware of it. But this was a place for teaching wizards. All of these books would help further his career.
After a while of wandering around the shelves, Marco picked up a few books and got himself comfortable at one of the tables. He chose one that was closer to the wall, trying to be as far from people as possible. Sometimes people found areas of the library to chat in, and this distracted Marco quite badly. Not that he rejected the presence of people! He just didn't want to sit next to a talkative group, he'd get nothing done. He didn't have many subjects to study too hard yet, but this was his comfort area. While he would've gone to explore Hogwarts, it was getting a bit late, and he was a bit sore from all the walking already. He decided that it'd be for the best to just relax and read for a little while.

Finally, Dove had some free time for herself. But now, she had to find what to do. After all, she already finished her homeworks, and she still didn't know if she could swim into the great lake, so options "work" and "sport" were not available for the moment. Maybe she could relax into her common room ? But she knew she could get bored easily if she did nothing. She looked through a enormous window, while quicly dusting machinaly her ravenclaw robe with her hands, and saw a few people outside but none of her friends, so she wouldn't went there for a walk. After all, why wouldn't she act as a "good" Ravenclaw, and spend this time into one of the most beautiful rooms she had visited for the moment : the library. Even if the corridor was full of people wandering in every corner, Dove already knew were to find the wanted room and went there easily.
Of course, Dove has already been in here, but seeing all these shelves full of books with all the subjects possibles about both magic and muggle world. It was only her first year, but she wondered how would she be able to read all she could see now. But anyway, she shouldn't waste her time watching the shelves without doing anything, therefore she walked slowly, caressing with her fingertips the edge of the books, sometime taking one randomly, to open it and smell this old-book smell she loved. Maybe she was doing too much ? She finally decided to take a few books with her and searched the perfect place to sit. However, most of them were full of at least three or four people, discussing each other. Dove really loved to talk and meet new people, but for now, she just needed a moment for herself when she could be on her own, her and her books. When looking around, still searching for a nice place, she saw a table with a boy, maybe of her age, reading a book and seeming calm. Dove didn't want to disturb him during his moment, but if she installed discretly, maybe he wouldn't mind ? After all, if she disturbed him, she would find another table, not complicated.
However, discretion and Dove weren't friends, so when she sat on a chair, she made some noise that could easily annoy someone immersed in a book. She smile at the boy, with a sorry face.
"Sorry, I didn't want to disturb you. Don't you mind if I sit ? I will only read some books."

Back to the Books

Marco wasn't entirely aware of the people around him. He had chosen a spot out of the way on purpose, wanting some peace and quiet to take in the books at Hogwarts. It was an expansion of his library from home, and he figured that even seven years here would not be enough to cover all of the literature presented. He was happy to be so busy! At least until his classes started pushing him. It was already a bit different from home. Of course, Marco had heard bits and pieces of wizard knowledge from his family, but the information he learned in muggle school was entirely different. Here, it was just one class. His life had switched around, for the most part.
However, while he was stuck in his own head, Marco heard someone's voice. At first, he didn't process that someone could be talking to him. But then he saw someone's shoes near him, and glanced up to see a stranger! He didn't seem to be upset or offended that she had decided to sit down, the only change in his expression was a slight eyebrow furrow. After a moment, though, Marco nodded. "It's alright, I don't mind the company." He said, his voice quiet for the sake of the library. It wasn't like he was a particularly loud person anyway. Marco was also curious as to what books he was reading, so he ended up glancing over his own book. Before he just decided to ask- "What are you reading?"

After asking the boy if she could sit at his table, Dove noticed a little wrinkle between his eyebrows. Maybe she annoyed him ? She could understand, when she was reading peacefuly, she didn't really like to be disturbed. But she didn't know why, a part of her wanted the boy to accept her presence here. She barely took an eye of the books he had taken but she was curious to know about what he was reading.
When he finally decided to respond (Dove felt like these seconds were minutes), he whispered positively. His silent voice remembered Dove she may have talked a bit loud for the place, and her cheeks became a bit pinker when thinking of that. But anyway, she didn't have to find another table, so she thanked him, whispering just like he did.
Dove sat down, more discretly this time and decided for a moment which book she would read first. The three of them really interested her, and it seemed that she wasn't the only one, since the boy asked her about them. She smiled, that would mean she could ask him about his after, and moreover, it was said before she loved to talk, so this was perfect.
She decided to take the one she choosed first in the library.
"This one talks about History of magic. It can seem simple, but I feel like I don't know much this wizard world, even if both of my parents are wizards."
Dove hopped she hadn't talked to loudly, because when she was starting to talk, she was able not to control this. Then, she chosed one she may start this day.
"I think I will read this one first, because it is about some facts about the muggle world. It can't wait to know more about it, because even if my dad is a muggle born, he didn't teach me a lot about it."
She finished her sentence with a sadly voice, hopping that he wouldn't notice it. She wished her grandparents were still alive to talk to thel about this weird world she didn't know. But anyway, now was time to talk about the last book.
"Finally, I wanted a book about biology. I think it is an interesting subject, so why not ?"
Wow may habe talked too much, but it felt good to share things she loved with someone else ! She asked in return about the boy's books, and remembered she didn't even introduce herself !
"Ho by the way, my name is Dove, whay about yours ?"

The boy just seemed to have those sorts of expressions. He didn't try particularly hard to look cheerful, though it seemed like aggression would be very obvious. Marco just seemed... Neutral, looking forward to finally reading the books that he had picked up. He closed one of the books he had been reading, but saved the page so he could go back to it. He just didn't want to seem disinterested. He also didn't want to forget where he was. But he knew it was impolite to act bored, particularly to a stranger who did not know who he was. He folded his hands over the table and glanced back over to her. "Is that the one we were meant to pick up before school? I've read through that one. Pretty good for the basics, helps you get a start on the content.
Of course, he moved some things around on the table so she had room for her own books. She seemed occupied with her academics, the same as Marco did. "The muggle world is... different, yeah. We have a class for it, but I think the best way to learn about the world is by living in it. From the few books I've read... It doesn't compare, really." He paused. "Though, my parents are wizards. So I guess I still don't know what it's all about. I assume that's what the class is for."
At her last book, he tilted his head some. He was curious on how the muggle teachings of Biology would fit into their magical studies. Though, he didn't know much about it. He hadn't gotten that far in school, he was eleven! "It is. Biology is... Everything, from what I understand." He nodded quietly, folding his hands as he looked at the books that she had. A good setup! He approved. With a short nod, he leaned back and looked at his own.
"Well, one of them is also the History of Magic." He presented, lightly pushing the book forward. Marco was generally a fan of history, it was nice to learn a whole other side of humanity. Though it was old news for Marco, as he lived with wizards. He had learned bits and pieces through his family, likely through a biased lens. Even textbooks were occasionally biased. He wasn't super sure what that even meant yet. "I grabbed one about magical creatures, I didn't get to see a lot of them until now." He added, pushing the book forward to see if she was curious.
"And.... I also picked up a book on divination. Mostly magical information for now." He nodded to the last book he had picked up. "I have wanted to extend my book selection but I didn't want to pick up too much, it's too early to get burnt out." He said, before turning back to the girl with a short nod. "My name is Marco Rinaldi, of Ravenclaw. It's nice to meet you." He extended a hand across the table to shake hers. It was only polite! "You are in Ravenclaw as well, then? Do you like it?"

Dove wasn't used to discuss with someone, but when she couldn't describe the emotions of the person in front of her. His face was very neutral, but it actually intrigued her, and Dove would like to know this little man, whom she still didn't know the name, a little more. When this one pushed a bit a similar book she took to her, she was happy to see some common points between them. She supposed that, like her, history was a subject he loved. Dove didn't know why, but she could feel some tiny butterflies into her stomach when she learned about old stuff, like what were her ancestor's ways of life ? How did they learn magic, and how did they use it, that may be different from now ? All these questions needed an answer, and these answers fed her. Did he feel the same ? Anyway, she smile seeing this book, and then he showed another one, about magical creatures. That was also interesting, she knew none about them. She took a look at the book, before adding :
"Sounds interesting, well the other one too but magical creatures... the only think I know is that they all are different. Fun, isn't it ? So many living things we didn't know could exist."
Well, fun wasn't really the appropriate word for that, but she didn't want to correct this since the boy talked about his last book, divination.Mmh, divination... Dove didn't know if this she would like this subject. She didn't really believe we could read the future. To her, he was unpredictable, since he could change at any time, according to the choices everyone made. She didn't tell him that, so she just nodded and answer about these books.
"All your books look nice, you will learn so many things after reading them !" she whispered to him, before the boy added it would have liked to take more books.
She could understand this too, but three for the moment were good, and she could turn back anytime she wanted (out of class of course, that was the most important), and she could read more and more books during the seven years left. After a few seconds, she was shaking Marco Rinaldi's hand, who was also in Ravenclaw.
"Yes I am. I find it a little funny to see we are in the same house. What a coincidence."
She said the last sentence with a bit of humor in her voice. She didn't know why, but she could have guessed they were in the same house.
"If I like it ? Of course I do. My father was in Ravenclaw too, maybe I have this in my blood."
But that was not only family. She felt good in this house, it suited her. The sorting hat really did a great job- it did it for everybody of course but Dove didn't see herselft in any other house. She shared her thoughts with Marco, before asking the same question to him.

It was nice to meet someone who seemed to care about getting books early. He knew there was a natural drive to find friends and enjoy events as a first year, but that felt very crowded to Marco. He had gone to everything required for Ravenclaw and first years, and had escaped soon after. Of course, he didn't think it was bad to enjoy those things. But Marco wasn't one of those people. He stayed long enough to introduce himself, make his name known, and then leave. He tugged at his cloak sleeve slightly with a nod. "I knew of the creatures, but seeing them... Reading more about them, it's a different experience entirely." He nodded a bit.
After discussing all of his books, the boy gathered them back towards himself with a short nod. "That is the hope. I haven't even touched the surface here but... I have seven years to do so." He offered a small smile. "I am interested to learn all of the different perspectives that people share on the wizard world. I think it'll make me more... Aware." He decided on. Aware was a good word. "There's so much to learn in the muggle world, and even more to learn in the wizarding world." He realized he was talking a lot and seemed to pick at his finger nails a bit, too conscious of his own talking mannerisms. He didn't want to seem like a know it all, he had to be humble!
"I feel as if I'll be seeing many people in our house here, if the stereotype holds true." He managed with a short smile and shrug. "But I'm sure this place is crowded with all of the houses." That was what he heard before coming here, anyway. Ravenclaws spent a lot of their times with heads in their book, and Marco wasn't too far off from the generalization. It felt right, and it worked that he loved to learn so much.
At the mention of the parents house, he nodded. "Fair, it's natural to feel that way, I think. It's a welcoming house from what I've experienced, hard to not like it."

Listening to Marco talking about how he felt concerning the learning of the wizard and muggle world impressed Dove. Unloke her, he could use the good words to explain what he meant and this was something Dove had to master. She didn't know how to choose the perfect words and mostly of the time, she found it hard to explain her feelings. Even if both of the first years had common point concerning their thirst for learning and their choices of books, and were divided by how they showed it to eachother. To Dove, it was obvious that Marco loved to learn, it suited him. But to Marco, maybe he could think that was not the case for her.
She heard Marco talking about people frequenting the library and once again, she could agree with him.
"I feel the same as you. I cannot be the one to say we should not focus on stereoptypes because... I kinda stick to them. But I hope I will meet people on different houses too in this place."
This time, she hoped she used words that reflected her mind. Even if Hogwarts is full of different places, each one with their own charm, but library is litteraly a place which was supposed to reunate all the people, not divided by tables, but reunited with common interests. Homeworks, reading or simply chill in this quite room. It was obvious that everybody, no matter the house, could like at least one of these points.
When Marco takled about how he felt in Ravenclaw during the first days, she nodded while smiling.
"I think all houses are welcoming in their own way. I hope everyone feels good in their respective house. But these blue and silver colors... this atmosphere I can feel in the common room and with other Ravenclaw people, I think I could never feel that anywhere else."
She tried to figure herself in other houses. Gryffindor ? She didn't think she was brave enough. Maybe Hufflepuf, she believed she was someone loyal, but she didn't know. If the hat didn't put her there, then it was because she didn't belong there. As to slytherin... no, she definitly didn't belong here. But of course, she have experienced it, so she couldn't know.
"Have you tried sometime to imagine yourself into another house ?"

He twisted some of his short hair between his fingers. At the comment she made, Marco chuckled. "I feel like I do too, it's not something I'm ashamed of." He mused, drumming a free hand on his book. It was hard not to be. Knowledge was infinite, it was natural for anyone to be incredibly interested in it. You never had to stop learning about most subjects. As humans progressed, more things came into light. It was impossible to never stop learning new facts and perspectives on most things. If it was, well, it would certainly take you a long time. "I haven't really met other people in other houses yet, aside from the few I met on the train." He recalled them vaguely, he presumably had pleasant conversations with them. It was nice to have some company on the train, considering he was going from knowing most people in his school, to nobody. He wasn't even really expecting to talk to anyone on the train. It had been a pleasant surprise.
Regardless, he was quite fond of his house. He loved being in one that was centered around curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. At a place that wasn't his home, he felt like he was still there in a way. It had everything he loved about his home, aside from his family. He let out a short yawn, opening one of his books to skim some lines as him and Dove talked. He could multitask! But he also didn't want to appear rude. Then again, he assumed Dove sat near him so he could study with him. At least, that's what people usually did in a library. "I feel the same. It's weird to imagine myself anywhere else, though I was chosen for the house. I suppose that's why it makes that difficult." He offered a little smile. "I don't think your house can be changed. I hope." He did not like the idea of that.. He liked his house!
Though at the question, he pondered. Where else would he be if not Ravenclaw? "Maybe Slytherin? That seems like the most similar one to me. But I don't particularly imagine it often." He pondered... Maybe he should have.

Dove also smiled when Marco said he didn't want to change his house if there was this possibility, but took a serious face when he replied he hadn't really thought of another house. Well, that question was a bit dumb, because the Sorting Hat couldn't get wrong when putting someone into a house, and even if some people could get a bit disappointed, it didn't mean they belang somewhere else. Dove also realised that she didn't really know what to say. They were talking for a while since she arrived at this table, but still didn't really read on Marco's face when this one was listening to her, or just thinking before talking. It was a strange feeling to have the impression o talking with a stranger, even though she was learning some stuff about him.
"I am sorry, I realised I was asking you question that were do not interest you. You may want to read instead ?"
She felt a bit selfish to continue asking questions to know him better, when Marco may wanted to start one of his three books. This was the purpose of his coming in the library at the beginning. This remembered her sorting ceremony, when the Hat said she had a bit of selfishness of her Slytherin mom, and once again thought of the "changing house" discussion they just had. Maybe that wasn't this stupid after all ? But still, she opened one of her books, and read the first page, before looking at Marco. Since the beginning of her talk, she had some calming feeling. Of course, she was in the library, but talking with this boy was also quite appeasing. So, she decided to annoy him a last time to say :
"By the way, would you like to be my... reading partner ? Like, we could read together, and talk about the books ? Give advice to eachother I don't know..."
