The gentle glow of moonlight created a path around the fountain, and Lottie followed it slowly, watching the dark water sway elegantly in the evening wind. At Danielle's question, Lottie turned back to the girl, her eyes wistful and expression soft.

"One of my grandfather's purchased it back in the 1920s. Since then it has been in our family for years. When one of the children start a family, they get first claim over it. I imagine it won't be long before my brother gets ahold of it." Lottie imagined her eldest brother, married and surrounded by children. It didn't feel right in her mind. She pushed the thought away.

Just as she turned back to the fountain, she saw the water shudder back suddenly. A ripple formed in the pool, then died down just as it had come. Lottie looked up into the starry night sky, and flinched back as a raindrop landed right in her eye.

Rubbing the water away, the girl turned to her guest with a newfound energy. "It appears our quiet evening won't last forever." She placed her hand out, palm facing the sky, and felt as the steady trickle of raindrops began to pick up speed. "The flowers will be drinking good tonight."

All cares she had for the state of her hair and dress were thrown to the wind as the relieving press of cold droplets slid down her fingers and landed onto the cobblestones silently. The rustle of leaves and petals hitting against one another filled the garden with a gentle ambience, and the scent of the distant oak trees was so strong it was nearly intoxicating.
