A letter to my mom.
Alyssa stepped onto the platform that held the owlery. She had climbed the stairs slowly, trying to make the time pass. She dreaded the moment, she knew that she had to inform her mother about the sorting ceremony. Her heart was beating in her chest as she stepped into the owlery. Thousands of owls were swooping in and out of the owlery. She wondered whether all of them belonged to the school, or if the students' owls also resided here.
She held in her shaking hand the note that she had written to her mother.
Mother.
I have some news, time will only tell if it will please you or not...
I participated in the soring ceremony only moments ago. It was a pleasant experience, however, I feel like I let the family down in some way.
My new family at Hogwarts for the rest of my stay is Gryffindor.
I hope this note finds you well.
Regards.
Alyssa.
She gritted her teeth as she gave the note to one of the school owls. "Please don't wait for them to give you something to nibble on. I promise I will give you something extra when you return." She smiled as the owl took of.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

A letter to my mom.
Greta ran up the stairs to the owlery, tightly holding a letter in her hands, which she wrote just a few minutes ago. Her cheeks were red from the harsh wind, making her pull her scarf higher.
She still was full of the excitement from the sorting ceremony and couldn't wait to tell everything to her parents. That meant that her letter consistent of detailed description of the castle, what she ate and ghosts, which she saw. Of course, at the end of the letter, Greta didn't forget to add that ended up in Gryffindor. She is a muggle-born. Her father is a muggle and her mother is a witch, who was sorted into Slytherin when studied at Hogwarts. However, despite that, Greta was sure that her mother nor father will be disappointed with the house, in which she ended up.
“Oh– hi,” Greta wasn't expecting to see anyone in the owlery, so when walked in and saw a girl, automatically said hi. It looked like the stranger was from the same house as her.
But that little interaction from Greta was it. She didn't say anything else nor smiled, as continued to look for an owl, which didn't look like was going to nibble her fingers off. “Ouch.” She mumbled angrily when picked the wrong one. “Bad owl.” She glared at the poor thing, who just thought that Greta was giving him a treat.

A letter to my mom.
Alyssa noticed the girl enter the owlery, she saw the color of her robes, another Gryffindor. This was great, it would be easier to get to know someone who was in the same house as her, and she remembered her from the sorting ceremony, this meant that she was also part of the first-year group.
"Hi there." She hoped that her greeting was inviting, she did not want to seem bored or too energetic, either way, it would give off the wrong idea. Alyssa felt awkward when it came to meeting new people. This kind of situation placed a lot of stress on her, and she would fumble with her words if she was expected to go into more detail, but a greeting seemed simple.
She smiled as she watched the owl nip at the girl. Some of the owls in the owlery seemed very anxious and she wondered whether they were treated well, but this was Hogwarts, of course, they get treated well by the people that work here, she thought about all the children that would use the owls, hopefully, they treat them well. She thought back to her brothers' owls, they were treated like royalty. The youngest sons' owl was particularly fat because he received a lot of treats. She chuckled, she loved that little owl.
