Those Little Buggers

Kamryn let out an exaggerated sigh. Laying on her back, arms spread out to take in the nature around her. This wasn't her first time at this so called Great Lake, nor will it be her last. It was only about a month ago that she found this spot. It wasn't secret or anything, it was just a spot by the lake. A spot she'd go to every Saturday to relax. To think.
What made this visit different from all the previous ones was the change of season that came. She was used to the cool winter air disrupting the sounds of nature. Chilling her to the bone whenever a breeze came by. As they often did being near a lake. And killing off any sign of the small wildlife Kamryn's taken such a liking to. Yet now everything was changing. It was April, and the spring weather was rolling in. The sound of cicadas and birds filling the air once again.
It was 7:02 am. Kamryn was always good at getting in and out of bed fast. Mostly due to her lack of care for appearance. She didn't like sticking around to hear the other girl's gossip much either. Normally the students would be having breakfast at this time, but Kamryn found it much more peaceful around the lake at times when everyone one else was eating. Leading her to skip breakfast most weekends.
She rolled over. Propping herself on her left arm as she looked out into the vast lake. Today she was thinking about shadows, and if they were made of anything. Her thoughts change almost every visit. Never are they anything important. Or at least important to anyone other than Kamryn herself.
Her eyes were closed. A slight hum coming from her lips as she sank into boredom. That was until a slight push fell onto her. Not nearly strong enough to be from a human, nor weak enough to be unnoticeable. Kamryn shot herself up in surprise. A small cicada falling off her leg as she did. "Oh would ya look at that..." She chirped to herself. It was the first time in a long time she saw a bug of any kind. Kamryn missed them to be honest.
Leaning down to pick it up, Kamryn tried her best to be gentle. Sadly, the cicada ran off before she could pick it up. "Butts..." Kamryn stood up. Patting the grass and dirt off in a sloppy manor. Getting very little off before she ran for the bug. Or speed walked. There wasn't enough energy anywhere near this lake for a run. The cicada stopped on a log stump. Kamryn sneaking up behind it only seconds later. She did her best to be quiet. Simply watching the cicada go about it's day. It was interesting. Though admittedly she must have looked awfully weird too any on lookers.

This wouldn't be the first time Saskia left breakfast early to wander off. She was a fairly quick eater, although that may have had to do with the fact that she had a bit less food than the rest of her housemates. Oh, well. As long as she wasn't starving herself for the whole day, she wouldn't mind skipping the idle conversations in the Hufflepuff table and go for something that could give her something better to do. It wasn't like she had any valuable input in most of their conversations- they mostly involved classes, studies, and maybe some other things Saskia wouldn't really understand. At one point, she remembered listening in on a heated debate about which knitting tools were the best to use. There was something about crocheting, spool knitting, and many other terms the girl could not possibly understand. And after listening in on a lot of other conversations, she figured it was probably best for her to depart before her head started to hurt.
As always, she decided to go outside. It was an escape from the crowded area she was previously in, and it helped clear her mind. Plus, it was her go-to place when she wanted to go somewhere to pass the time. But as of now, she decided to go to the Great Lake. It wasn't somewhere she usually went, as she preferred to stay near in case she had to run back inside, but she still thought it was a good place to relax. Sometimes, she would skip some rocks along the lake and see how far they went, or maybe toss them instead to create multiple ripple effects, although other times, she simply ran across the shore if she wanted to energize herself. But it was also good for sightseeing if she just wanted to sit down and rest. The lake was usually dark in appearance, although when the sun managed to hit it right, there was something pretty about the lake that Saskia couldn't properly describe.
As Saskia walked, she couldn't help but look around. While she was very much familiar with the grounds, there was always something new to look at. After winter and spring passed, there was much more colour in the trees, and flowers were not an uncommon sight. That also meant more bugs would show up. Personally, Saskia didn't really find bugs scary. She had met plenty of people who thought otherwise, but she couldn't see why. They were tiny and easy to squish if one wasn't careful, but for the most part, they didn't pose a threat. Even most spiders were harmless, and yet anytime a stray spider or other insect showed up in the Hufflepuff dorms, a few girls would scream at the mere sight of it. It was irritating, but it wasn't something that usually happened, so Saskia could at least reign some of her annoyance in.
By the time she reached the lake, she stopped from a few metres away. Somebody already beat her to the lake, it seemed. It was a Gryffindor girl, with red hair, though it was closer to an orange colour in the sunlight, and... Honestly, Saskia didn't know what she was doing. It looked like she was trying to sneak up on something, but she didn't know what it was. There were plenty of bugs around the area, so perhaps she might have been looking for bugs. She didn't know why, exactly, but that was something she would have to find out.
Making sure to walk as carefully as she could, she quietly approached the girl. "You looking for anything?" she asked, keeping her voice down just in case.

Those Little Buggers
The cicada wasn't moving. It's body facing straight towards Kamryn. Almost as if it was a stand off. A stand off Kamryn was sure to win. Unwilling to break eye contact with the small thing if it was the last thing she did. A childish act sure, but she found joy in it.
All of her attention was focused in on the cicada. The sound of the wind and rustling of grass becoming extra potent. Kamryn was scared back into the real world with a shock. A loud "eep" escaping her as she jumped up off the ground. The cicada disappearing in the commotion.
Kamryn turned around with a pout to face the intruder. "What was that all aboot huh? You scared the life out of me you did!" She crossed her arms in a pout. The dirt from her hand rubbing onto her robe. "Look! You spooked away the bug!" She pointed at the stump where the cicada used to be. A now lifeless stump covered in green moss.
There was a sudden gust of wind. Blowing Kamryn's hair in her face. Some getting in her mouth. She spat it out with a disgusted look on her face. She looked around the area around the two of a brief moment. It was too early in the morning to get into an argument. She let out an annoyed sigh. "So who are ya anyhow?"
