Before she came to Hogwarts, her mother and she sat down for a cup of tea. Peach was distractingly playing with a Bowtruckle that they had to bring home because he had an injury and his companions were too harsh on him.

"Peach, listen to me and stop playing with that Bowtruckle. He needs rest and you need information about your new school." The hard tone of her mother made the young girl shiver a little and she brought her little friend to her shoulder then looked at her mother. This one smiled. "Hogwarts is a magical place, where you'll be able to meet new people and to make friends with people who understand you. You'll be sorted into a house and this house will be your family forever and have no worries, my love, no matter what house you are sorted in, I will still accept you in this household. Things will be hard at first and you will be allowed to send me letters, but not too many okay? And finally, you must have fun and learn as much as your little brain possibly can!"

Her mother's words scared her a little. She was suddenly going to be surrounded by people and she didn't know how to cope. The train was fine and so was the trip across the lake but now, they were going to be put all at the front of a giant room with flying candles and she felt as if she was going to pass out. She took deep breaths and observed the table of teachers, and one chair occupied by a hat. A hat? A teacher started announcing names and everyone sat, one by one, on the chair and dropped the hat on their heads. This one yelled out the names of the houses.

"Gryffindor!....Ravenclaw!....Gryffindor!....Slytherin!...," and every time he did, the table associated with the house would scream in joy and happily welcome their new member.

Peach's name was called out and her face took a pretty rosy color. She walked, slowly, to the chair and picked up the hat. Her hands were shaking, although she had nothing to worry about. She sat down and closed her eyes as she gently put the had on her head. "Hmm...Quite a hard one, this one," he murmured. "I hesitate between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff...You seem quite loyal and helpful but learning is a big part of your life...,". The young girl waited a little before a loud "HUFFLEPUFF!" made her jump out of the chair. Some student giggled and she hastily took off the hat before dropping it on the chair. She looked around, searching for the cheering table and when she found them, all yellow, she practically ran to them. They were so welcoming that she forgot about the shame and she felt quite happy about The Hat's choice. Thank you, Hat.

Evan was about ready to bounce out of his shoes, his excitement radiating off of him in waves. A grin was spread wide across his boyish face as he watched everyone get sorted into their respective houses. He honestly had no preference to what house he was going to be put in, Evan was just ready to start making some magical friends. His father was a very proud Hufflepuff, and since Evans mother was muggle-born she had no house but if Evan were to guess he would guarantee she would be in Ravenclaw.

He continued to rock back in forth on the balls of his feet, full of nervous energy, when his name was finally called. He brusquely walked to the hat, placing it on his head, the brim resting neatly atop his curly golden locks.  "You are very kind boy, the loyalty in your heart is strong...hmmmm" Evan heard the hat whisper in his ear, his heart pounding, his hands gripping the edge of the stool on which he sat. "HUFFLEPUFF!" rang out. "Thank you!" Evan said to the hat out of habit before he jumped up grinning from ear to ear. He gently placed the hat back upon the stool and rushed over to the clapping Hufflepuff table. Evan was ready to start his first year at Hogwarts, and he couldn't be happier.

His name was Dakota Buttercup Parker, the youngest of the Parker family. He had never knew of Hogwarts until a year ago, and it still felt new to him. He thought he was prepared but he was shaking in his seat, eyes wide and heart pounding. How could he think that he was ready for such a commitment? He could already feel his older brothers' stone cold gaze on him, but reminded himself to keep his chin up and appear strong.

"Dakota Parker."

As soon as he he heard his name, he walked forward, pushing past the crowd of first years carefully, the tension in his body quite obvious, fear shimmering in his entrancing dark brown eyes. His breath was soft yet quick, and he felt as if he was about to pass out any second now. Luckily the stool was close and all he had to do was sit down on it, trying his best not to slouch as the hat was placed onto his head.

He squeezed his eyes shut tightly, and that was immediately when the talking began.

"Hmm, another Parker I see? Not a surprise, I've been wondering if you were going to attend Hogwarts sooner or later. Seeing that you did, it seems to me that you indeed have the same potential of your brothers. Yet...I can tell that you don't believe so, perhaps you'd fit Hufflepuff then? Or would you like to take a chance in Slytherin-you're not to far off from being just like your brother, Allen you know..."

Dakota couldn't hide his gasp, how could the Sorting Hat say that? Was he really like his brothers? No, he couldn't be-he wouldn't be. The Sorting Hat could easily sense Dakota's reaction, and after a long silence, it finally spoke, "Very interesting indeed....You are different Dakota than what I've seen, and I've seen a lot of different first years come and go. With a dip of its head, it then called out,

"GRYFFINDOR!!!"

Dakota let out a sigh of relief, he was a Gryffindor just like his beloved grandmother, she would be proud of him-he just knew it. Sliding off his chair once the hat was taken off of him, he quickly shifted towards the Gryffindor table, taking his seat, and for once feeling confident about his future life here at Hogwarts. Nothing could stand in his way now, he was a sprouting lion cub that would soon grow its mane. He just knew it.

You would not believe your eyes, if ten million fireflies~

Rian starts walking into the great hall, looking at the amazing scenery, and even more amazing food.
In the distance he could hear the people being sorted. But he cared more about the food than the ceremony. He had never seen so much food, or such a grand hall. This along with the whole school, it's so big.

"What adventures to be had!" He thought to himself, while daydreaming of the different secrets that lurk around here. The cries of each house become lower, and lower. Suddenly, he snaps up "Rian Pack!" "Oh no, I fell asleep!" he mumbles to himself. He looks back and forth, and notices it was just his time to be sorted. With a sigh of relief, he starts rushing up.

In the middle of the great hall, he trips over himself, almost falling. He regains his composure before finishing the walk to get sorted. He sits down and waits for the decision. The hat is dropped onto his head. "Hmm... unexpected. Ambition to learn, Ravenclaw?"Rian was annoyed, obviously the hat was referencing how he made himself a fool.

"No, there's more You're hardworking, loyal, and kind. Yes, I know a perfect match for you."There was silence. Rian wondered how this hat knew all this stuff. All of a sudden the silence was broken by a loud "HUFFLEPUFF"

AHH! I'm late again!

She took a seat but she did not care for the spectacle that was the sorting ceremony. Her shoulders slumped, she donned an unimpressed expression as a beat-up, old hat was placed on the top of her head. It would whisper to her with a soft voice, or at least that was what is was supposed to do.

Mmm... Mmmm... Yes, yes I know just what to do with you Miss Ryan if that is your true name. House Slytherin it is!

There was no hesitation. No deliberation. No questions. No preponderances. The hat appeared to be content with its choice, after all it was apparently never wrong. Well, that and Erin was satisfied with the Sorting Hat's decision, that was exactly where she intended to be.

Slytherin represented what she wanted to be, not what she presently was. Those characteristics include: cunning, resourcefulness, and ambition. Ironically she aspired for ambition, but she was always faced with inaction. With the barriers produced by her parents. By rules. Laws. Also, muggle-born students were rare, she was uncertain if there was ever a muggle-born Slytherin. She hoped that there never would be. Save them for the other houses.

Thank you hat, you have made an excellent choice she commented as she left the chair and the hat was lifted and waited the next student. Erin would take her place among the Slytherin first years.

Just a trick of the lighting they said...

When Mary entered the Great Hall she could not believe what her eyes saw. The magical roof and the four tables already filled with older students, for her it was even better and greater than what was described to her and very different from what she had imagined. Even all the readings she did was not as exceptional as what she was experiencing now. Soon she will really be part of this world, by being sorted to one of the four houses. She really didn’t know where she would be sent, her father was in Slytherin but her mother in Ravenclaw, his brother followed the steps of their mother as he was in Ravenclaw but everyone was saying the little girl was just like her dad.

When she heard her name she made it up to the front of the group and climbed the few steps till the Sorting Hat. It was handed to her and she put it on her head.
Hum, another Swan, I think your brother was there two or three years ago. And I remember your parents, you have a very talented mother, and your father was quite unique too.
She was quite amazed about the memory of the Hat, she would have never believed he would remember her parents. And well it was nice hearing that about her parents, she just hoped she will not be a disappointment to them.
Where shall I send you, I see many qualities, kindness, loyalty, you are also willing to learn… I think I know it will be HUFFLEPUFF

Mary put down the Sorting Hat and walked towards the table of her house and what will be her home for the next seven years. She was very happy with the Hat’s decision and was excited about discovering everything she could under her new colors.

They were waiting for their names to be called. Destrian was looking around him while someone was being sorted. He had never imagined the great hall to be this beautiful and magnificent. There were hundreds - no - thousands of candles floating above the four tables, each representing one house. There was a deep green, a dark blue, a crimson red and a golden yellow. The tables were stacked with endless rows of food and there were golden cups and plates. Everyone was watching the ceremony happen, he saw. Sometimes some people would whisper to each other, but the ceremony was never disturbed besides for the loud cheering whenever someone was sorted in a house. He only now noticed that, among the other students, ghosts sat with them. How interesting was that?

He turned his head to look towards the hatting ceremony of some boy. He was sorted into Gryffindor and the entire table was cheering for him. It was only now that he noticed that the hat had a mouth, a dark gap between leathery folds, through which he could actually talk. He couldn’t hold back the grin that appeared on his face when he noticed.

Dayne, Destrian.  Step forward.

For a moment he felt himself becoming nervous, a feeling he didn’t often experience. There was a pressure for him to be sorted in Slytherin. His uncle had told him that everyone, since they had moved to London, was sorted in Slytherin and that it was the only worthy house. His lips were tight together as he stepped forward, climbed the steps and sat down. The hat was larger than he expected, and maybe even a little heavier. As it thought, it moved around. There was a long silence until he heard the voice in his ear mumbling something, until it finally spoke up more loudly. But Destrian wasn’t sure whether it actually spoke, or whether he was in his head.

House Dayne of Germany, a line with a dark past if you’d ask me. I remember your parents.” the hat told him, but he didn’t continue rambling about his family. He was curious what he meant by ‘dark past’? He tried to let it go and focus on the voice again. “Should I put you in Slytherin, where who dwells are full of ambition, or Gryffindor, where the brave hearts lie? You’re brave, that’s for certain.. But you’d do anything to reach your goals.. Ambitious one, just like the rest of your family. Let’s see.. SLYTHERIN!

Relief washed over him and a pride replaced his nerves. He took off the hat and put it back down on the stool. With a certain proud stride he headed for the table decorated with deep greens. The students clapped and congratulated him, like they did with every new student to their house. His uncle would be proud of him, Dayne knew.

Every second wearing her robes made her feel as if it wasn’t for her. ‘I’m not a witch. This is a mistake.’ Vee tells herself. It was exciting, nerve-wracking, and right now she’s really overwhelmed. She follows the crowd of first years, trying not to fall behind - she would be useless if she was suddenly left alone. It was a big crowd, and to know that she’s probably not the only one feeling this was what slightly comforting. It also helped to have meet a few of them on the train. But it was still a big change, much she doesn’t know nor understand. It was still all too much. She rubbed her fingers, a habit she developed in a few years, anxious she’d blow something up because she was panicking. She didn’t want to make a scene and took a few deep breaths to relax.

They were led to a bigger hall, the ceiling reflected the night sky with candles floating above our heads. It was nearly enough for her to forget about her anxiousness. Her mother mentioned being sorted into which house will keep you during your stay. She mentioned being in Hufflepuff but made no other explanation. Hoping to be prepared, she read about the sorting ceremony when she got her books - it was the only guide she has. A person donning blue robes makes his way to the center of what seems to be a platform. He gives a few words and the sorting begins. It takes a while before her name was called and she doesn’t know if she was grateful for that or not.

“Venice Smith.” She jumps as she was called and forces her legs to walk to the chair. ‘Get yourself together.’ She says to herself. She wondered why this ceremony takes place in front of everyone else - sitting there, no one else hearing the hat until he decides where to put you. She continues rubbing her hands as the hat falls on her face. She was small enough that it fell just above her nose. At least she wouldn’t see anyone else while this is happening.

The Badger and the Lion,” the hat suddenly says in her head. “The Lion’s blood runs strong in your family, I see.” Vee wondered if the hat always said things that they couldn’t understand. She knows nothing of her mother’s family and thought nothing of it.

I see confusion in you, child. You are a witch, else you will not be here. No matter, this house will help you remember. You will be in RAVENCLAW.

She gently pushes the hat off her head and quietly walks to the table full of people with robes lined with blue.

All that stops you is fear. Do not allow it.

Ike nervously waited for his turn. It felt like an eternity. Sweat beaded down his forehead as he waited. The feeling was very alien to him. While it didn’t matter to him WHICH house he was sorted into, the thought of being in front of thousands of people daunted the young boy a bit. He wasn’t used to the attention, but yet…something in him steeled his resolve. He remembered what his dad used to tell him- about being a man. That he had obligations. That he couldn’t let his mom down. And so, he contained the fear. Drove it into the recesses of his mind.

He’d own this moment. He had this in the bag. Courage was not the absence of fear- it was the ability to act in spite of it.

“Isaiah James Corbec.”

The boy took a confident step forward, sapphire eyes scanning ahead as he walked to the chair, sat down, and the sorting hat was placed upon his head.

“Ah! The bravest one yet! Reckless, but in time, I’m sure that’ll settle. This one’s easy. You belong in Gryffindor!”

A smile of relief washed over him as the hat was lifted off his head and he went down to meet his newfound family in the group of Gryffindor students.

When it came to a certain Wynne's turn to be up at the hat, it sent a maddening pang of anxiety down the poor girl's body, nervously rising to the stands of where the Sorting Hat was. The poor girl didn't know what to feel, and what to even do once the hat goes and sort her into her own house. She did know that her family (almost like a set religion) always seem to fall in the house of Ravenclaw or even Slytherin at times.

But whenever a family member was set in the Slytherin house, they always bum down into being one of the bad members of her family when it came to dark magic. Of course, adults would point out that the house is only just a house and not everyone who comes out of the Slytherin house is suddenly turned into a mold of what was once human, but no longer under certain moral principles.

But for Helle Wynne, she was nervous out of her whits' end due to the stories she hear about her own family members and even on He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. For if she goes under through the house that is known in her family as a curse, she would consider herself doomed.

For what Helle learned of her parents, she knew her father came from the house of Ravenclaw while her mother from Slytherin. Helle saw this as a probability of what she would receive. She say she has a fifty-fifty chance of being doomed. And as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head, she turned into more of a mess of anxiety more than she was in before the hat was placed onto her, and her poor mind was in a jamble.

The hat was instantly in awe before speaking to her, "My heaven's child, calm down!" And with those words, Helle's mind went blank, shaking quietly in her seat. The hat ran through her mind, questioning her anxiousness. "Goodness, now I see why you're so scared to death. Your parents are that of Slytherin and Ravenclaw, but you hear terrible stories on the Slytherin house? Oh, you poor thing, shaking in your heels like that. Now..."

Helle flinched in her seat, sitting still as she looked out to the crowd of students who were either chatting away with friends or watching without much care. Most were talking away with friends. She whimpered out nervously as she watched people in the seats below who already have friends. Helle didn't really have any magical friends. Her father and aunt just set her around muggles to understand the real world mostly. "Ah, fear of being alone? Fear of not being accepted? That's a rather Ravenclaw thing to do! Your intelligence is par as well, and heavens, the originality-!" The Sorting Hat cried out.

"Hey, no need to be nervous now. Everything will be fine, no matter what house you're in. You choose your own path. Either you walk down the path of your evil family members, or you be your own person, now- Ahem, either way, you're-"

Helle squeezed her eyes shut in fear of the answer, but feeling rather...comforted, by the Sorting Hat's words. If it wasn't just an object, she would've considered it something to look up to for care of her while she was in Hogwarts. She heard the Sorting Hat make a offended quip of a sound. "Sorry..." She spoke out, apologizing for her rude remark on the hat itself.

"RAVENCLAW!"

And that was all that was needed to cure Helle's anxiety, breathing out a heavy relief and thanking the hat greatly for possibly saving her a long time of grief for her and her surviving family members. She couldn't afford to go back home to her father and aunt with the cloud of being in the Slytherin house. For when Helle allowed the hat to be taken off of herself, she went along over to the Ravenclaw table, watching people at the table looking obviously intelligent and different from others. She took a breath, this was going to be her life in Hogwarts from now on, she noted.
