Eliza Thornwood, First Year, Slytherin

Eliza was born in Brighton, England, to her mother Rosealie and her father Tim. Rosealie was a very talented witch and attended Hogwarts herself. She was rather adept at transfiguration. Her mother, however, died when she was only a year old in a car crash. Her dad raised her from there on out. As Eliza is muggle-born, her father is the muggle in the family. After her mother died, her father tried to forget as much as he could about his late wife, including blocking out the magical aspects of her life. He never informed Eliza of her mother's past in magic. He works as a banker. He doesn't have tons of free time to spend and so Eliza and him aren't super close. Her father then went on to marry another woman, Margaret, two years after her mother died. Margaret works as a real estate agent. She has way more free time than Tim and spend lots of time with Eliza. They live very close to the beach and Eliza spends most of her free time wandering around and going on adventures. Her family makes sure that they eat together every night and once a week they go have a picnic on the beach.

She discovered her magic when she was exploring the beach by herself one day. She was walking along the shore on some rocks when she noticed a bird that was stuck in some plastic getting swept up under the current. She felt extremely bad but also knew that it would be dangerous to try to save the bird. She sat for awhile and debated what to do, but randomly the bird was set free and the plastic had disappeared completely, like magic. She went and told her family what had happened and her dad decided it would be best to share the stories of her mother. Various incidents started to pop up here and there when she would get stressed as well, solidifying the theory that she had magical abilities.

The day that her letter arrived was super exciting for everyone. She hadn’t even woken up yet when her dad was knocking on the door energetically. She stumbled out of bed and came downstairs to find her dad and Margaret surrounding the table with breakfast and a letter. They sat her down and handed her the letter, bristling with excitement. She was confused at first when she opened it but with a brief explanation from her dad and a look over the supplies list she was just as excited as them.
