Lev’s face reddened in embarrassment. Tristan was right: he was being childish. Only a child would start shouting and saying stuff like “I want to be an adult!”

Like usual, Lev had let his emotions get the better of him and had proved just how immature he truly was.

As he noticed the mark change in tone coming from the other, Lev looked down at the ground, making his long brown hair cover his eyes. He felt like a kid getting scolded by his mother. He’d been impulsive, the young boy knew he’d be absolutely miserable if he became “great” by hurting others. He knew being “great” wasn’t the ultimate goal in life either.

Lev had wanted to love himself again and in his childish mind, he’d seen becoming great and powerful as a means to that. With Tristan’s sharp words, the boy had realized that this feeling of accomplishment couldn’t rely on his achievements. He repeated himself that other’s thoughts shouldn’t matter either, but he didn’t believe that deep down. Not yet anyway, for something as deep rooted couldn’t be solved with one speech. Not yet anyway.

”I-.. You are right Tristan. I am sorry.” Lev looked up at the older boy, sniffling a bit. He couldn’t cry, not in front of someone so cool like Tris! Lev admired how the other could switch from a gentle and comforting tone to a sharp and powerful one in seconds. He was truly able to make people listen to him. Lev wished he could inspire the same respect one day.

“I was being stupid and careless with my words.” He rubbed at his eyes. “I’ll be great in my own terms. Like you.”

Hello

xxxxxThe quick change in tone had seemed to function in the purpose Tristan had desired it to be. There was a quick sniffling in the child in front of him and he apologised. “Dear Lev, you are forgiven. Although there is nothing to be forgiven for. You had not yet learned and you have many more years to learn the wisdom of the world around you. You are young and the fact that you do not know and do not have complete wisdom in the matters of life, is natural. However, unlike your peers, if you truly desire to be great, remember this. You must learn with an inner motivation rather than external. There is no more magic in wisdom and greatness than in a muggle. Even certain muggles are great. Great wizards and great muggles often come to their point of success in the same way. They complete hard work and when they fail they are willing to stand up and attempt their task once more.” Tristan turned his head to look towards the crowd and he pointed to the stands.

xxxxxThere are those who may indeed be born with innate talent. But without hard work they are often surpassed by those with greater ethic.” Tristan stopped his speech then and allowed the child to ponder and learn. The child desired to grow quickly, but what is the benefit of childhood other than the forgiveness of society when you make a mistake. In any other ages of life they would crucify you with any mistake you make for the stakes are quite larger. However, this was a child who did not understand that joy that comes from a childhood. Tristan’s had ended at eight years old and he had forced himself to forget the warmth of his heart to forget. Then in third year, another tragedy had struck and he could not stain the memory of his loved ones ever again.

xxxxxHe quietly commented, “Childhood is a gift not to be wasted with the ever present desire to be an adult. Adulthood is a drab and dreary place for many.” There is a strange feeling as Tristan reminisces back to his own childhood, a sense of regret perhaps, that he never felt the joy of play past age eight. Oh, Tristan would desire that feeling once more. He acted quite jolly these days but there was nothing comparable to the innocence of a child whose joy is simple. There is a certain fade that occurs the moment one feels to be an adult. Tristan had matured fast due to his circumstances, but maturing fast was a regret and sadness within him. He gave this thought to the child, “Growing up will eventually happen, but you will never gain this time ever again. Enjoy it.
