Matilde’s nose was pressed up against the window of the ice cream parlor as she stared across the street at one of her favorite shops in Diagon Alley. Outside of the store, there were so many animals, of all different kinds. Owls, toads, pygmy puffs…
“Matilde, dear, have you picked what you want?” her mother said gently, but with a slightly impatient edge to her voice, though she was used to her daughter’s daydreaming. “Don’t worry, we’ll go to the Magical Menagerie later,” she said knowingly.
Matilde didn’t notice her mother’s tone. “One more minute, Ma,” she said. The little nine year old wandered back to where her family was waiting, and stared through the glass of the desert case. Then she looked back at the menu. There were just so many options. She decided to go with a classic. “Could I please have the rainbow popsicle?” She asked the wizard at the counter. He smiled, then handed her the treat. Freja smiled at her daughter. “Go sit down,” she said.
Popsicle in hand, Matilde walked over to a table by the window where he brother was already sitting.
After she was finished paying, Freja returned to her family. But before she could reach the table, the doorbell tinkled. Freja looked up and smiled ear to ear. “Well, I’ll be!” she said quietly. Matilde craned her neck in an attempt to see who had just walked in the parlor.

She was walking with her brother and mom when they decided to come in the ice cream place. Once they entered, Linda asked her mom to buy a waffle dish sundae. It was one of her favorite. When Roselia finished paying and looked around trying to decide where to sit, she saw a familiar face. Ah looks like you have a chance to know my friend's daughter, Li. Linda looked at her mom, trying to see what she was talking about.
However, that wasn't necessary as soon after that, they started to approach another family. Freja. Long time no see. How are you? Do you mind if we join you? It's my son, Siralb, and my daughter, Linda. Linda and her brother greeted people in front of them and looked at each other. Li was interested if her brother knew the guy as they were going to Hogwarts already, but this question could wait.

In walked a women and two kids Matilde didn’t recognize. She guessed the girl was close to her age, but the boy looked quite a bit older.
“Freja. Long time no see,” said the woman. “How are you? Do you mind if we join you? It's my son, Siralb, and my daughter, Linda.”
Matilde’s mother hugged the woman. She looked genuinely glad to see Rosalia. “Oh, I’m grand, how are you? That would be lovely! It certainly has been a long time.” She looked to the children. “It’s very nice to meet you. This is my husband, Rian, and our wains children, Martyn and Matilde.” She smiled at the group. “Hogwarts, I presume?”
Matilde’s brother smiled at the boy, “Hi Siralb,” he said, a little shyly. The thirteen year old had unruly sandy brown hair and wire rimmed glasses framing his green eyes that were identical to his sister’s.
Matilde smiled at the girl, Linda. Maybe they could be friends. A million questions filled her overactive nine year old brain. “Nice to meet you,” she said cheerfully. The girl was always curious to meet anyone her mother knew at school. Matilde would hate having most of her friends live in a different country.

Linda heard her brother saying hi to Martyn and looked at the girl. That was fascinating to come across them here and since Linda was assuming the girl will also go to Hogwarts, although probably a year later than her, they probably could become friends. Nice to meet you too. She smiled as her mother left them to talk more with girl and her brother while she was talking to her friend.
As her brother attempted to small talk with Martyn, Linda moved closer to Matilde. This was the best possibility for them to talk and staying silent would be rude. At least it considered to be so by her grandmother. So are you waiting to go to Hogwarts too? I assume you'll go there, right? Was it sounding rude? Linda hoped no as she was simply curious and didn't know where to start the conversation.
As she glanced at her brother, she still couldn't understand if he knew Martyn as friend or not. However, Linda returned her attention back to the girl and was now wondering what to ask else. What's your favorite ice cream?

As Matilde and Linda's parents and brothers sat down and began to talk, the two young girls started their own conversation. Linda asked her if she was going to Hogwarts. "Oh, yes," Matilde replied. "But not until next year." The girl was still nine years old. As much as she was excited to learn magic, Matilde didn't really like to think about going away to school too much. She was frankly a little scared. She wasn't happy about being away from home for most of the year. Matilde looked at Linda curiously. "Is this going to be your first year, then?" Matilde thought Linda definitely could be at least a year older than her, but maybe not much more than that.
Linda seemed like she wasn't exactly sure what to say. Matilde looked around the room distractedly, watching the witches and wizards milling about the shop. She paid special attention to the other children, wondering if she'd meet any one day, when she finally went to Hogwarts. Matilde's attention was brought back to the conversation as Linda asked her about her favorite ice cream. "Ooh, it would definitely have to be strawberry." Matilde licked her popsicle thoughtfully. "What about you, what's your favorite?"

Linda smiled. Yeah, I'll be going to Hogwarts soon. Like to be precise next year. She replied enthusiastically. It was going to be a great time for her to finally see the school she heard so much stories of and saw some of her brother's drawings.
Just from all of these it already seemed to be a great place. The only thing, Linda guessed she would be missing her family quite much. It would be first time for her to stay without parents for so long in the place she knew from stories and drawings. However, Linda was sure she will enjoy it. Do you have some house you'd like to be in?
As their talking went to ice cream, Linda took a moment to eat hers. Waffle dish sundae definitely is one of my favorite.She replied distracting from eating just for a second.
