Weekends were the most boring days of all days... unless you have your friends around with whom you can go crazy. And this Sunday afternoon was the same. Where were her friends? Well, they insisted they wanted to take a rest; it's Sunday, after all. WHO DOESN'T LOVE SUNDAYS? Ash.

She jumped down the tricky stairs and made her way to the Great Hall. Meal time! She was met by the four grand tables placed in the centre of the hall and the population which was lesser than usual. Again, self-explanatory. Shaking her head, Ash headed towards one of the tables and picked a random chair at a less populated area to sit on.

Food... she looked dreamily at the pile of various different kinds or foods in front of her and wondered what she should eat first. What should she eat first? This was one of the most difficult choices at Hogwarts and it usually took her five to ten minutes deciding the same.

At last, she ended up taking some simple toasts with scrambled eggs. Eating with no friends around— or even having no one to talk to always made her lose interest in food, well, unless there were some DESSERTS.

Ash was lost in her own thoughts, thinking of something she didn't know either when she felt the chair beside her move.

Sunday. Worst day of the week. Jade was in the hallways as she passed by the Grand Hall. Her belly crying famine, she decided to stop eating a bite and come back for a walk. In front of it were 4 tables: the Gryffindor, the Hufflepuff, the Ravenclaw and the Slytherin. Every Sunday there was little traffic in the large room, so a lot of space. There are few times when the great hall is quiet and almost silent. She chose to sit at one of the tables where there were few people. She sat next to a young girl, who did not have her coat of arms on, so Jade could not know who was sitting next to her. She just looked at him. She had black hair and brown eyes. A cold, unexpressive face. She had an athletic body. After a brief moment of hesitation, she decided to speak to him:

"Why are you alone? "

Jade’s soft voice often placed her confidante in confidence, but seeing the hard look of her comrade, she wondered if it would work. Jade was not the type to talk to others without context, but as she was alone, for once she made an effort.

Ignoring the faint noise of chatting, laughing people, Ash, who was eating all alone had one of her legs resting on the chair beside her. Zoning out was one of her favourite things to do whenever she was alone. The chair suddenly moved, which had her getting out of her useless thoughts and she quickly but her leg back on the floor. For a moment, it occurred to her that she should look who was it, probably one of her friends?
Anyway, she dropped the idea and paced back to her thoughts— her mind was almost blank but there was something going on inside it she found amusing to think about. Thought what was it... WHO KNOWS...?

A voice— a rather too soft voice beside her made her jump and return to the existing world.

"Why are you alone? "
Realising she had been playing with her food all that time after a bite, she looked to her left to see a pretty girl. She had long black hair and her eyes were a beautiful emerald green.

"Oh— hey... I'm just— my friends decided to take some rest so I'm eating alone today," said Ash.
She tried to speak as softly as the girl spoke but returned to her original quiet tone after two words because she couldn't find herself being happy at the fact that she'd been separated from her thoughts. Well, it wasn't the girl's fault at all— nobody reads minds here, after all...

"What about you? Are you alone too?" Said Ash forced a smile, realising she was unable to zone out anymore.

"Oh, hey... I'm just... my friends decided to rest, so I'm eating alone today."

The girl's tone was soft at first, then it became quiet. Jade thought about the girl's answer. She has the same thing, but she doesn't say it out loud..

. And you? Are you alone too?"

Jade noticed that she was forcing herself to smile. She didn't understand why she was making the effort since she was sulking herself. After a little while, she decided to answer her with the same soft but slightly more closed voice.

"It's the same for me, but I don't get lost in my thoughts and I try to make conversation and smile for real."

When she finished speaking her sentence, Jade felt anger rising inside her. Why was this girl forcing herself to smile? She tried to put on a genuine smile. She managed it and looked defiantly at the girl next to her.

"I suppose you come from a pure-blood family?"

Her contempt for Muggle-borns took over. They are not worthy of wielding magic. she waited for her comrade's answer, she began to play with her knife. She looked coldly at the young girl of the house of Hufflepuff. She then began to get bored, she decided to put down the knife and take an interest in the discussion. She knew that this one was going to end in an argument. Just the girl's smile said it all.

Ash mentally cursed herself as she gave the girl a rather stiff smile. She didn't mean to, but loneliness always made her crazier than she was. But she couldn't even zone out now...

She was taken aback by the girl's reply who was sitting next to her. As the girl spoke, Ash looked at her just to see her trying to put on a genuine smile.
Is she trying to challenge me or something? Ash thought but didn't say a word. All of a sudden, a feeling of frustration grew all inside her— but she couldn't tell if this was right or wrong. Was this all happening because she was feeling super lonely or because of the girl? Anyway, all she did was maintain the silence and stare coldly at the girl for a second or two.

She nodded and turned her head back towards the food and took the last bite of her first toast before lazily chewing it. Next, she grabbed a glass of pumpkin juice and gulped down half the glass in one go. Her head had gone completely blank in her opinion, because she had nothing on earth to speak, and all she could do at the moment was stare hungrily at her food and chew very slowly to look reserved.

Ash had expected the rest of her time in the great hall to be both disturbingly and peacefully a silent one, but the girl next to her spoke, to her surprise.
"I suppose you come from a pure-blood family?"

At this point, for the nth time, Ash gets the unpleasant flashback of being asked the same question by a boy last year in Diagon Alley and being called a mudblood when she reveals her parents were muggles. Well, it didn't hurt her anymore but she couldn't forget the funny moment either.

"Pure-blood? Nope. I'm a Muggle-born." She spoke patiently despite feeling disastrous inside and smiled better this time and made sure the girl noticed it. She had to. "What about you?"
Before turning back to her food, Ash decided to know the girl's name. She definitely wouldn't want to forget her, for some reason...

"Oh, and what's your name?" She gulped down the rest of her pumpkin juice.
