Briar hadn't much to say while being benched on the sidelines. Sitting next to Meghan and Acaica wasn't so bad, it was something he was getting more and more accustomed to while he watched Raul and the team pop off. He noticed that through the other team's seeker's movements, it seemed like she might've spotted the snitch. He kept quiet and composed, figuring that they would know what to do and how to stop them from continuing forward.

Ever the stalwart protector, Azul watched as the game began, keen amber eyes darting between their teammates and the opponents that were hot on their heels. They watched as the quaffle was seized by Daniel and Alphonse, being passed around until it found itself through the unattended goal. Now the game was getting interesting.

It wasn’t long until the quaffle neared the goal Azul hovered by, guided by Kanae, their senior by a year. The two faced off against each other twice, each time Azul’s ego took a hit as the quaffle whistled past their tensed expression. Despite the setbacks, Castelobruxo remained in the lead by 10 points, a precious victory in the moment. Shaking off the tension in their shoulders, Azul returned to their lone watch over the goal, a tad more weary of their opponents, especially Kanae.

If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may take one of the following three as a free action: hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice, pass the quaffle to a teammate who is taking a quaffle-related action, or attempt to score on the opponent. This must be declared by the Keeper if any of these free actions are to be utilized, for example:

Keeper: Block [& Pass to x if Keeper's Catch goes off] - the pass recipient must be taking a quaffle related action
Keeper: Starfish and Stick [& Attack x if Keeper's Catch goes off] - the action will be equivalent to a bludger action

Raul had been confident in his ability to lead the team to victory, to find the snitch and to end the match before it even had a chance to begin. Then the blasted Japanese chose to focus their attention on him. Their beater took aim, but the shot was wild and Raul avoided it with ease. Of course, he hadn't accounted for their keeper leaving his hole to blurt him. Elbows jutted Raul, and he was thrown off course from his usual strategy, leaving the snitch well outside of his view. Fortunately, the referee called the blatant foul, but that didn't leave Raul any less furious.

He shouted in Portuguese, the words flowing off his tongue in his thick southern Brazilian accent, "Thank you!" Then his attention turned to that of the keeper, "You little shit. Take your God damn lap, filthy little-" He cut his tirade off, turning his attention back to the game. He could deal with the bastard later. He had a game to win.

When you know that you are the best looking thing in the world, there is really very little that others can do to sway you with their appearance. Such is the life of one Raul Otávio Vinicius Mirales Correa. A great appreciator of beauty, especially when it takes the form of gorgeous women, although he is not entirely ashamed to admit that he has admired the aesthetic form of more than a few men, Raul knows that they all pale in comparison to his own greatness. As such, he is not swayed by the beauty of others, for much like Narcissus becoming entranced with his own reflection, Raul became enamoured with his own self-image long ago. Truthfully, and without any form of self-doubt nor embarrassment, he believes that he is the most glorious creation under the heavens, and therefore thinks himself out of the league of just about anyone, regardless of how beautiful they may be. Delusion, it seems, is a grand defence against the bewitching and entirely unnatural allure of many of the denizens of the wizarding world.

That is not to mention his own cruelty and lack of concern for others, the destruction of a beautiful visage is an entirely justifiable price to pay if it provides one with the ability to further their own ends. Raul is not only entirely comfortable with harming those who he finds aesthetically pleasing, he takes an odd sense of satisfaction in it. Not so much in the destruction of beauty, but only in that it serves to further his own confirmation bias as to his own greatness. In many ways, he is cruel, but more importantly than that, he is callous to the needs of others. As far as he is concerned, the world starts and stops with his own whims, his own needs and desires. The possibility of seduction that would see those needs and desires temporarily satiated holds no bearing, especially when he is more than capable of providing himself with all that he could ever want. Mutually beneficial trades are of little interest to Raul, others exist to serve him, and accordingly, he feels not an ounce of respect or deference to others regardless of their appearance. Raul understands the effort that is required to make one gorgeous, after all he spends a significant portion of his own time on his own grooming, and it is because of this expended effort that he is more than confident that his own efforts leave even those with the blood of sirens and veelas wanting. Evasive Maneuvers
Reducio
When one walks a path that is constantly lined with insults and accusations, hatred and self-aggrandisement, it becomes second nature to know how to dodge and avoid the imminent blows that come. A lifetime of barbed insults prepared Raul well for a schooling environment, insofar as the education system is a social Darwinian hellscape. Yet, even before he attended the most prestigious educational institution for magic in the world, in his own not-so-humble opinion, Raul was commonly causing scenes at functions and events. Constant insults were met with physical, and later magical, retaliation, and it became necessary for the young pureblood to learn to avoid the blows of his more magically and physically apt opponents. A slight boy with no true gift for spellcasting, if he was to maintain his reputation for needless attacks and foul-mouthed insults, he would need to ensure that he could protect himself in the only way he knew how. By getting the hell out of the way.

Of course, once he entered school, there were more than a few students who not only didn’t care for his behaviour, but were more than capable of making their displeasure known. Natural instincts for avoiding trouble at the last possible moment would only become stronger, more honed, as Raul continued to bite off more than he could chew, starting altercations and fleeing before he could suffer any real, physical consequences. In due course, he would become as slippery as he was arrogant, learning to read the telegraphed spells and blows from adversaries before they were launched, his footwork increasing as he became extremely aware of how to dodge out of the way of their attacks.

Raul would start trouble, as was his way, but he would be damned if he were going to face the consequences of his actions. Sure, there were times where he caught a well-deserved hex, but they only served to embolden the boy. How dare they touch his most glorious visage with their filthy mudblood magic? It was the gravest of insults, and one that he would not allow to come to pass again. So, without realising it, without consciously choosing to do so, Raul would come to focus more and more on the behaviour of his peers, learning to read when they were upset, not only to ensure that his own jibes were landing, but to avoid the consequences should the unfortunate soul choose to pay him back for them. Evasive Manoeuvres II
Reducio
Quidditch was an interesting sport, one that placed a great deal of import on the role of a singular player. The seeker with their ability to end the game with one move, to earn fifteen times the worth of a goal with a simple wrist movement, undoubtedly was the most important role on the pitch. Naturally, the role was an obvious fit for Raul when it came time to join an extracurricular. After all, a position that predisposes itself to glory hounds was an entirely natural fit for the narcissist. With the goal of achieving personal glory and greatness upon a broom, he would take to the skies, and if it so happened that he could assist his school in proving their dominance over the other lesser educational institutes, then that would be an added bonus.

Of course, the very nature of the seeker that drew Raul to the role also meant that it was one that was rife with danger. When there are positions on the opposite team who are more often than not tasked with specifically ensuring that you are unable to stay conscious for long enough to see out the match, learning to avoid bludgers becomes an omnipresent part of participation. In order to catch the snitch, one has to ensure that they are conscious enough to do it, and that means dodging. Or, to put it another way, undertaking evasive manoeuvres.

Raul was already rather quick on his feet when he took the role of seeker at the start of the 2022 school year, but it took a fair bit more time to transplant those instincts from avoiding conflict on the ground to avoiding metal balls hurtling toward him in the sky. Still, whereas he’d come to rely on watching others to see if they would strike, his focus on the snitch would soon force him to use other senses. Sound, in particular, would become his friend, and the telltale sound of wind breaking around an oncoming bludger would sound like a siren, warning the seeker to avoid the incoming concussion given physical form.

The constant use of these instincts would only see them further develop, not only with respect to the sporting arena, but also outside of it. As two of his great loves, insulting people and getting away without consequence, and being able to claim victory in spite of the actions of an entire team, would come together to propel his evasive instincts ever onward. Of course, his true, greatest love, would remain himself, and ensuring that his most gorgeous visage avoided the unsightliness of a broken nose was certainly no small factor in ensuring he could manage a solid dodge. Fearless
Reducio
Raul knew he was the baddest dude around, the prettiest man in town, the bona-fide king of not only Castelobruxo but the international wizarding community as a whole. What did such a man have to fear? Nothing.

Or, at least, that was how he explained himself to his brother and the sycophants. In truth, his gradual numbness to fear was far more academic and far less creative. Ever since entering the school in the heart of the world’s largest rainforest, he’d found himself drawn not to the people, not to the classes, but to the very plants that served as their protectors and barriers. Herbology and botany had grown to be his passions, and it was only in those classes that he felt that he could truly express himself. The study of wilder plants, the examination of ancient botanical specimens, both magical and mundane, had driven him more than he cared to admit. So it came that when one stared into the maw of a carnivorous plant, its very power overwhelming, they had to give up some semblance of ego. They had to swallow their fear and face a force primordial and ancient. In spite of his ego, in spite of his multitude of flaws, Raul had managed to do it.

Of course, outside of the safe confines of the jungle or the classroom, his newfound confidence found new purchase and meaning. The quidditch pitch was a place to prove himself. If he did not fear danger at the hands of a being more primordial and deadly than he, why would he fear the bludgers sent by his lesser-blooded opponents. Thrusting himself forth became a natural part of his role as a seeker. Moreover, it became his predestined role. He knew he was the best thing to grace the field since the invention of the golden snitch, why would he worry about the temporary damage of some mudblooded beater hailing from the backend of Peru or some other such nation.

With quidditch and herbology as the foundations of his new-founded cockiness, masquerading as fearlessness, Raul set forth into his fourth year. He didn’t dare worry about the words or actions of others, afterall, he could merely dodge their blows. In the worst case scenario, where such blows would find purchase, where he would find himself knocked to the floor in temporary embarrassment, he knew that such social worries were temporary. The short term victory of his would-be opponent was nothing when compared to the fact that he knew that he was better than them, intrinsically, eternally, forever-more.

In the role of Seeker, if an opponent attempts to Bludger or Blatch you, there is a 20% chance that you veer out of the way the last second and another enemy player at RANDOM is targeted instead.

Note: The new target still gets their normal dodge attempt. This is not considered to be an auto-dodge, in fact this roll is done before any accuracy rolls are done.
In the role of Seeker, when using the search action if you critically fail on your search you get a re-roll in an attempt to find the snitch. In an attempt to grab the snitch, if you critically fail on your attempt to grab the snitch you get to re-roll your attempt to grab the snitch.

Roleplaying as Ginyami Midorimori from Mahoutokoro
"English | Japanese"
There was nothing better to distract one from one's own distress than to cause others the same feeling, Ginyami felt. Though he had cobbed Castelobruxo's seeker in order to give Miharu a better chance to find the snitch, he'd been caught for it, unfortunately. However, that actually pleased the fox-eyed keeper in a way. It was never as much fun to taunt people if they didn't recognize they were being taunted or what for.

The Japanese young man had done extensive research on the opposing team's students before the match. Daniel, one of their opposing chasers, was grinning and congratulating his fellow chaser, Alphonse, as they scored a goal while he was away from the Mahoutokoro hoops. Ginyami decided to pay him a visit during his penalty lap, smiling slyly as he passed and offering a few words of 'wisdom' as an upperclassman.

"Celebrate while you can, Mr. Tienzo," he told him pleasantly, his polite smile ever in place. "I can assure you...not all goals will be as easy to score as that one." With a wink, he flew off.

"Mr. Correa! Is that Portuguese?" he called, beaming at the Brazilian seeker as he slowed near him. "If you have something to say to someone, isn't it better to tell them in a language they can understand?" His volume lowered as his smile took on a more sinister appearance. "...Or is it that you're too afraid of what I might do if I were to be able to?"

- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).

- In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.

Note: Critical failure and critical success chances can be expanded with certain abilities and skills.

- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

As Daniel peals off to a separate section of the field, Kanae and Alphonse continue their battle for the quaffle. Both sides remain evenly matched, though Alphonse has an easier go of racking up points for Castelobruxo with nothing but empty goals to contend with while Ginyami completes his penalty lap. Kanae has a bit more difficulty, though, when facing off against Azul. Though still able to sneak one goal past the Castelobruxo keeper, Azul manages to prevent one of the goals with a quick reaction.

Seekers

No longer focused on the quaffle battle, Daniel dives directly towards Miharu and comes up right alongside her at the same time as Mateo. With Miharu and Mateo focused in on propelling the seeker towards the distant snitch, Daniel has time to reach across and lock his and Miharu's broom handles together, jostling the pair for a moment and throwing off their concentration. The Castelobruxo chaser has just enough time to disentangle himself before the foul is seen, all too casually drifting away from the scene of the foul.

Distracted by the interruption, Miharu's spiralling dive towards the snitch is slightly off balanced, pitching her just out of reach of the snitch. Raul, still dutifully seeking his quarry, takes this brief respite to zone in on his opponents object of focus as the sun glints off what he hopes to be his prize.

Beaters

With his comrade knocked from the sky and their seeker hot on the trail of the snitch, Sara positions himself at Miharu's side to try and protect the young seeker. And just in time. Monet sends a bludger at Miharu that Sara is able to defend against, the bludger harmlessly bouncing off his bat at no target in particular. Another bludger is quick to follow, though, with Miharu as such a popular target. Sara positions himself in its path, but doesn't quite have the reaction time to get his bat up before it connects with his shoulder and nearly unseats him.

The lone Mahoutokoro beater is able to keep himself upright, though, as the bludger ricochets towards Kanae in the midst of her battle for the quaffle. Quick reflexes allow her to dive out of the way with ease, her agility displayed once more not a moment later as a rogue bludger flies harmlessly past.

Whoever came up to him just now @Jack Burnett just spoke a bunch of nonsense that Daniel didn't understand. That was English, right? Whatever it was, it threw him off for a hot second before he clicked back into the field.

A quick look around found someone flying towards the girl Daniel had winked to before the game. She was their Seeker. Daniel took one quick look at Alphonse before zooming off towards her. He made quick work of knocking her off her course, flying straight off once they'd locked broom handles and exited the scene.

The lack of callouts from the announcer had Daniel grinning once more. He thought about the guy that had to do a penalty lap last round. That's how you cheat.

Roleplaying as Mateo Yamamoto from Mahoutokoro
Japanese = green | English = white | Spanish = red | Thoughts = italics + #bc8f8f

It was Mateo's first time doing an Alley Opp, and he hoped he was some help for his team's seeker. But, Mateo noticed a guy from the other team locking broom handles with his team's seeker, throwing her off her course. Mateo was angry at this and saw that the other team was winning. But, at least his team had some points as well. If Mateo had counted correctly, his team was just 30 points behind.

The wink of amusement from the opposing team's chaser made her groan in annoyance. No one really expects a girl to out-wrestle a guy for a ball, not even Kanae herself. It was honestly a miracle last round she even got 2 goals in. Pure luck she supposed. Since Mahoutokoro's keeper was doing their penalty lap this round, no one was guarding the rings. Which meant that if the Castelobruxo chasers got the quaffle, it would probably be an automatic score.

The round went rather horribly for her inferiority complex. She scored a measly 10 points as the South Americans scored 30, leaving the point difference to be 30 points. Kanae sulked a bit but her line of thought was interrupted by a bludger. Though it didn't even scratch her, it cut her self-inferioritating thoughts short.

Surely now that they had their keeper back they would get a better chance right?

Another round went by. Botan sat on his broom, trying to think how he could help. He watched the other team score 30 points which made him angrier. Sure, their keeper was on penalty lap, but still. Botan whipped his head around and spotted a boy on the other team blurt their seeker. Botan was angry. "Oi!" he shouted. "何だって!"(Nani datte! What was that!) Botan knew that should be a penalty. What he didn't see was Sara getting hit with a blundger.

This wasn't going well. Botan hoped it would turn around soon.

- Mahoutokoro vs. Castelobruxo -
Sitting on the bench meant that she had a good view of the game, and also was in a decent spot to hear the yells of a certain beater @Tommy Patterson. What was he screaming? Some sort of victory cry? She couldn't help herself. Despite the very serious situation that a quidditch game was, she let out a laugh. Hey, if he was playing well he could scream what he liked. Another 30 points were added to their teams tally after their chasers took to the hoops again, meaning that their score was double their opponents.

Good, but the snitch was the real prize here. Daniel @Alyssea Brown took a break from the hoops to go commit a wonderful foul that would make the alley-oop the other team attempted much harder. Sadly though, the bludgers aimed at the opposing seeker would not find their mark. Pedro would have to work harder to be able to recite his crazy victory chant once again.
