The Grim
The school year had finally started again. There was still some summer holiday vibe in the school. Every student shared their summer experiences with each other. About Zach, he spent his summer at home, with his mother and siblings. Oh! And also with his mom’s patients: dogs, cats, and cows. The chatter about the summer holiday could still be heard in the Divination classroom.
Yes, Zach took Divination as his elective. He was curious about the subject, and he thought it would be a fun subject, especially after he put off some of his responsibilities. Future prediction and its branches of ways to do it. Zach didn't hesitate to take the subject. He was surprised that his friends, Alyssea and Raizel, also took Divination as well. The class would be double fun, he thought. So there he was, sitting in one of the seats, and preserving the other two for his friends. “The seats are occupied,” he said to the others when they wanted to take the seat.
He took out the Divination textbook, a notebook, a bottle of ink, and his black quill from his satchel while waiting for the class. In front of him, there was already a tea brewing set with the cups seated on the table. He played with the cup a little before he felt another presence that he knew was taking the seat beside him. His eyes were gleaming once he saw both of his friends.

| Unlike last year, Alyssea had to dive back into academics the day after arriving at the castle. Her first year had been a similar situation, with the train ride being on a Thursday and the first class being on a Friday. At least then she had the weekend to adjust. Now, in Third Year, she had to fight a whole week with only a few hours of sleep. Yet, the lack of sleep didn't really bother her as much as it should've. The real reason she'd found it so difficult to rest was pure excitement. What would the new classes be like? Magical creatures? Runes? Divination? So many questions and there would only be a few hours before she would know. Forget the sports teams she had to train for; forget the core classes she had to study for; forget the Headliner that she had to write for. Alyssea was desperate to know what these Third Year and above classes were like. (Alyssea wasn't actually going to forget about her responsibilities. Headliner especially. The point was that she was so excited she could almost forget about them. Just for a moment.) When she arrived, she was ecstatic to see a familiar face. Hopping up to the table, Alyssea placed her books down and said, "Mind if I sit here?" She said it in a playful tone and with a sing-songy lilt that whatever Zach said next didn't matter. She would sit down, anyway. As they waited for the class to start, Alyssea hummed whatever song came to mind first. Her knee was bobbing up and down in a way that her father would disapprove. But could you blame a girl for her excitement? |

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Divination, not a subject that was first on her list of elective subjects. First mentioned back on her first train ride to Hogwarts, a certain Slytherin boy had asked her what subjects she would specialize in. Divination was one of his guests. Her answer was, ‘she hadn’t given it much thought.’ Truth be told, she wasn’t that interested in it. Her eyes were set on Magical Creatures aside from her favorite core subjects. Maybe soon, she could just drop Astronomy and switch it with something else, something more worthwhile.
So, how on Earth did she end up taking it? Sereia Clairmont is the reason. She’s a wonderful person, she listened to her when she needed someone to talk to about her misfortunes and the only one who offered to help her even though she wasn’t sure if she was able to do something about that or if she could even remember it. But still, the Divination professor showed concern, offered a solution. That was enough for her. In return, Raizel decided to give Divination a try.
Nothing new happened on her way, it was the same as always and what I mean by that is that she almost got lost and missed the first minutes of her class. She had no classmates to follow for she doesn’t even know who is taking Divination as their Elective. Luckily for her, she wandered right where she needed to be. “Bloody hell…” she uttered, annoyed by her bad sense of direction and relieved by the fact that she made it in time. As soon as she entered the classroom, two familiar figures caught her attention. Right, both Zach and Alyssea were taking Divination.
Raizel facepalmed, completely forgetting about that. She could’ve followed them earlier. “How could I be so stupid…” the Gryffindor grumbled as she made her way to where her friends are. “Is it starting?" She asked them. "You don’t mind if I sit here?” She’d rather be with familiar people during the start of classes. She may not look like it, but she does get nervous in new environments and having some old friends with her helps calm the nerves.

Zach was really excited to see both girls. “Sure, these seats are yours. I shush the others when they want to take the seat,” he said proudly. “And it hasn't started yet, Raizel.” The boy smiled. Really, he was smiling ear to ear. Perhaps he looked scary right now, but it was just him being excited to start this new subject with his friends.
“What song is it?” Zach asked Alyssea. “The one you hummed,” the boy tilted his head in curiosity. Zach felt that he was familiar with the song, or maybe not. Maybe it was just his feeling. But whatever it was, he knew that Alyssea was just as excited as he was. Was Raizel excited too? Zach looked at her. Yes, she was excited too, he thought nonetheless.
When the class started, Zach paid much attention to it. He took some notes quickly, trying to catch anything the professor said, even though that made his notes messy and unreadable. But who wanted to see his notes anyway?
The fun part of the class had begun. All of the students started to brew their own tea that had been prepared on the table. “Do you think the type of tea leaves will affect the reading?” Zach said. His hand started move his wand slowly to do the incendio wand movement.

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Raizel settled on her seat once she had confirmed that it was free, giving Zach a gentle pat on the back as she does so as a thanks after knowing he had saved it for them, thankful for that. She would be on her way finding a different one far from them if he didn’t do it. “Glad that I made it then.” The Gryffindor leaned back on her chair, taking her time to catch her breath and rest for a bit before taking out her things to take notes once classes started.
She doesn’t exactly know what to expect in this class aside from probably taking a glimpse of someone’s future through a crystal ball or something. Their lesson, however, if she remembers it correctly, is about Tessomancy? Fortune telling through the use of tea leaves. Strange, weird, Divination in all its entirety is weird yet it’s interesting at the same time that she can’t help but feel a bit eager about it. Of course, that doesn’t show on her face as usual. Only exhaustion is visible on that face of hers, from her running around the castle just to find her class and her getting tired from all the misfortunes and disappointments from last year that she’s sure will happen this year as well.
Can Divination tell her her future? She wants to know somehow, if it’ll get better for her but what if it doesn’t? What if she was doomed to a future that’s filled with only darkness? Terrifying really. Her thoughts were drifting far from what she should be focusing on in class, even the one that her friends were talking about didn’t register in her head. She was only brought back upon seeing a familiar wand gesture from the Ravenclaw boy beside her. Her first thought was Expelliarmus but she doesn’t have time to draw her own wand and Zach would finish the spell first before she could disarm him.
Perhaps, in a way, Evelynn Decipio was right. You don’t have to rely on magic every time. So she did what she could at the moment, the quickest way to stop him and that’s to snatch his wand away. She grinned once it was in her hand, successfully taking it from the boy. “I don’t think we’d want to burn the classroom down when we’re just getting started, Zach.” she told him, placing that wand on the table just before him as she’s not gonna keep it for too long. She just wanted to stop him from setting other things on fire. What was he trying to light up anyway? Ah, just shows how distracted she was earlier.

Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
"Tassology can be done with any brewed drink, like coffee grounds or wine sediments. For now, we're starting off with tea leaves," Sereia said as she finished writing off the symbols for tessomancy. She had already instructed the class to start brewing their cups.
If anyone wanted to ask her about the cold water, she simply said nothing and pretended not to hear. Yes, she had purposefully give them cups of tea with cold water; they were going to have to boil it, anyway, as part of the procedure. It was a fun exercise and a way to incorporate a new spell into the first lesson. When she turned around, however, her life flashed before her own eyes.
The image of a flame being drawn in the air had Sereia running towards the table. She had promptly forgotten how impulsive twelve and thirteen-year-olds were if left to try handle the situation on their own. Thankfully, she didn't have to move very far as Raizel picked the wand up out of the boy's hand before he could say the dreaded magic word. The sigh that left her body was immense.
She slowly approached the table. Raizel was a familiar face, but the other two... not so much. She would need to check her roll again and see faces to names. Sereia chuckled. "Love the enthusiasm! But we don't want to burn the place down, do we?"
She took out her silver lime wand and tapped the boy's cup. "Aqua Fervens." Immediately, the cup steamed and he would find it hot to the touch. "A better way to heat up your water, rather than using Incendio, is the water-heating spell. All it takes is the tap of the water holder, in this case it is a cup, and say the incantation. Voila! Instantly heated water."
She returned back to the front of the class to continue writing notes down and taking whatever questions popped up along the way.

The Great Gatsby Musical? Alyssea might find a puzzled look from the boy. He didn't know any musicals. Oh! Just one. It was Les Misérables. He had watched the movie with his grandparents. Perhaps Alyssea knew it too? However, when Zach was just about to talk about it, the class started.
How to brew the tea? Zach thought about it quickly. Brewing it in a traditional muggle way might take a long time. Then this idea came to him: why would he brew it in a muggle way? He could use Incendio or, even better, Incendio Duo. Then the boy started to grab his wand and swished it before Raizel snatched the wand. "Hey!" he exclaimed. And the next thing, Raizel talked about burning the class. "I don't mean thaaaaat. I just thought it must be quicker!" he whined, trying to give his explanation. But then Professor Clairmont approached them. Her presence surprised him. The boy was frozen for some seconds until he felt his cup starting to warm.
Zach looked up at Professor Clairmont and gave her an awkward smile that turned into admiration after he heard her talking. He had never seen such a beautiful, calm, and poised professor this close until this year. "Thank you, Professor." The boy looked down at his cup, ashamed of what he had just done. After Professor Clairmont came back to the front, Zach put his cup and looked at Raizel, "Can I have my wand back," he stopped for a second before continuing with his hands held out, a big grin and near-closed eyes, "pleaseee?" he asked Raizel.

| Alyssea watched the whole scene go down with wide eyes. Thank goodness Raizel noticed what Alyssea hadn't. Looking around, the classroom was practically a fire hazard with the tableclothes, hanging cloths and long curtains everywhere. While the walls weren't flammable themselves, being a stone and brick castle, Alyssea was pretty sure people passed away because of smoke inhalation first and not actually being burnt to crisp. She almost expected Professor Clairmont to be strict about it. To their surprise, she was kind enough to laugh it off and demonstrate a different spell. Alyssea picked up her wand, imagined the water boiling to near-untouchable heat but without the bubbles, and tapped her own cup. "Aqua Fervens." She could feel the heat without even directly touching the cup. Had she overdone it? Alyssea took the handle of her cup and lifted it, careful not to spill any of the hot water. "Nice. New spell to start off the year. This will be handy when I forget I have hot chocolate while I'm studying during winter." Alyssea chuckled. "You don't need your wand for the rest of the exercise since the professor already heated yours. Don't let your tea get cold!" She brought the cup to her lips and thought of her question: will this year be better than the last? |

❂《 ⌜ September 2, 2024 ▎ Monday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔A spell to heat up water huh… convenient in a way, especially when you forgot to boil any for tea or whatever hot drink you were preparing. With just a swish of a wand, that problem will be solved. Despite the new spell, it was far from catching Raizel’s interest but she did try not to let that show as she doesn’t want to disappoint their professor. Guess she’s drinking cold tea today. She can’t even recall how the spell was done.
“In exchange for this wand, how about heating up my tea?” she asked Zach with a mischievous grin on her face, slowly pushing the boy’s wand towards his side of the table. Of course, she was joking but she is giving back the Ravenclaw’s wand. Hopefully, he won’t try to set the room on fire now that his cup was heated up by the professor already. In any case, she was alright with drinking cold tea. It was her fault for not paying attention at all which was a bit out of character for someone who is always enthusiastic about new spells. Her interest is just… a bit complicated right now. Well, if Zach does accept that offer then hooray.
What will tea leaves tell her though? Her doom? Her dark future? Oh she won’t be surprised if it did considering all the misfortunes she had gone through last year. Hope that this year will be different is close to non-existent though.
