The Hospital Wing

At the far end of the main third floor corridor rests a set of double doors through which lies the one area of the castle with which nearly every Hogwarts pupil either has, or no doubt will have by the end of their seven-year tenure, grown accustomed: the Hospital Wing. On a good day, the dozen or so beds lining either side of the wide and open hall are empty, their white linen sheets carefully made with mitered corners, privacy curtains stowed away in preparation, an environment so devoid of sound that the quiet bubbling of water over a bunsen burner might easily be heard. With high vaulted ceiling, large diamond pictured windows lining either wall for ample sunlight, and minimal décor, the space exudes a sense of peace and tranquility.

On just about every other day of the school year, students crowd the beds, complaints, and noises of distress, creating a cacophony in paradox of any rest that might be encouraged. Six visitors may be comfortably seated about each bed for visiting, although visiting hours are strictly enforced to ensure adequate rest for those confined to them. Not that visitors would likely wish to linger long. Especially in the high heat of the summer, the archaic use of bedpans and the tendency to delegate their cleaning as a form of detention punishment lend to the lingering of a less than pleasing aroma. Granted, this is - more often than not - mitigated through the diffusion of scented healing oils and the scent of bleach that tends to permeate the air.

Everything from small scrapes to mumblemumps, broken bones to impressive cases of mucus ad nauseum, can be treated by the talented nurse and healthcare providers. Any who visit or find themselves a patient will be met with nothing but the highest standard of care, many of the techniques employed brought over from his practice in America. Only the most severe conditions would be forwarded for additional treatment to St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Known to brew their own potions, the Nurse can often be seen tending to this more clinical approach, making use of such equipment as distilleries, pipets, barets, and other equipment at home in a chemistry lab. If not within the patient area proper, they may be found for counseling or inquiry within his office, which adjoins the main wing.

Treatment in the Hospital Wing is generally swift, the care efficient and stays brief. True to the consistent organization, care, and treatment outcomes are carefully logged, the records of which are kept safely under lock and key for confidentiality's sake. Needless-to-say, any who find themselves in need of care will find themselves in good hands, whose presence, although understated, has been a consistent boon to the residents of Hogwarts.
