Duelling Beta Test Match 6 - Isaac vs Raine

Welcome everyone to the sixth match of our Duelling Beta Test!

A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great ethusiasm.

We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a Second Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 35 or 40 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.

Your duellists today are @Isaac Ambrose from Gryffindor House and @Raine Sage also from House Gryffindor. Please give a hearty round of applause to both of them! The moderator for this duel will be the lovely Slytherin Prefect @Luna Choi.

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.

Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.

Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.

Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.

Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.

Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.

Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.

You can become whatever you want, its like magic... unless the "whatever" is a beater, then i'mma bash your face in with a bat.

The round

Stepping onto the dueling podium, Luna didn't say anything but gave the noisy crowd an icy glare. Although this was not the first duel, these students were still as excited as the first time. She agreed that this could fire the duellists up, but the problem was that they wouldn't be able to hear her if they kept being so loud like this. She knew screaming silent wouldn't work since her voice when she was screaming was also low. Her only solution was giving them an icy glare as telling them to be quiet.

Luckily, there were some students realized that she wouldn't talk as long as they kept being like this, so they started to tell others to be quiet. Finally, the dueling club fell into a scary silence. But, the lavender hair liked this kind of silence. She started talking, with a not so loud voice but enough for people here hearing. "Welcome." Didn't want to make the two people near her wait, Luna just went straight into the point. " As usual, we are going to have two students perform a duel. And these two 'lucky' students are..." she looked on her right, where a boy with curly hair was standing, "Mister Ambrose, and..." She turned to her left, where the girl with gorgeous gray eyes was standing, "Miss Sage. Please give them a big clap for the two lucky Gryffindors."

When the crowd stopped clapping, Luna looked at the two lions near her, from this side to the other one and talked with her normal voice, "I hope you two have already read the rules. Or else, you will get what you deserve." Stepping a few steps back, she continued. "Now, please bow down to each other politely. Take out your wands and, let's begin."

Raine stood on the platform ignoring the crowd around her as she waited for her duel to start. She was excited...and a bit annoyed. It was 2019 and there were still a few chauvinistic wizards in the crowd wishing her opponent, Isaac Ambrose, a better win. It took all of the girl's strength to not spray the jerks with an extinguishing charm. Mainly because that was the only spell she knew that would cause them discomfort.

"Teach that girl a lesson!"

"Get that firstie off the podium!"

At least they're not making catcalls. That would be disturbing. I'm only twelve.
 the young Gryffindor thought with a roll of her eyes.

The person who would be watching over their duel stepped onto the platform and gave the crowd an icy glare, quieting them down almost immediately. Fasinating skill. I've got to learn that.

Having read the rules plenty of times since her invite earlier this month, Raine did as she was told and stood in front of her housemate and opponent. She had never officially met Isaac, though she had seen him around the common room often enough to know of him. Nodding to him, she said, "No hard feelings?"

The coin was tossed in the air and Raine smirked as she was to start everything off first. The Slytherin Prefect who would be watching the match left the podium to stand on the referee side and told the two duelists to begin. Readying her wand, the young Gryffindor pointed it at Isaac and shouted, "Obscuro!"

Isaac had been waiting for the chance since forever to face an opponent in combat. Learning spells was entertaining, but what was even more exhilarating was dodging a blow by a single hair, throwing up a shield in the nick of time, and channeling magic for a heart-racing battle.

He was noticeably more fidgety than usual, but it was only because he was so eager to start. Leaping up onto the podium, the boy observed the Slytherin prefect icily glaring at the shouting students. In his mind, he was already zoning out the noises of the crowd and the prefect's words. They melted away into the background.

All of his knife-sharp focus was on his opponent.

She was petite, with dark brown hair, and small hands clasped around her wand. Anyone unobservant would have dismissed this match as an easy victory. But the girl's grey eyes were noticeably studying the area, and moreso, she seemed very relaxed as the prefect went over the rules. Her confidence belied experience, and he knew that she would be a crafty foe to face.

Raine Sage...huh?

He'd never heard of her except in passing, and vaguely knew her as a fellow Gryffindor. That didn't scare him, in fact, the uncertainty only made it more interesting.

"No hard feelings?" she asked.

"Right," he replied firmly, returning the nod. Whatever happened, happened.

The coin was flipped, and Raine had the fortune of going first. The girl pointed her wand at him, shouting, "Obscuro!"

It was a chillingly intelligent first move. In a few moments, he'd be blindfolded and unable to see while she pummeled him with spells. Whipping his wand in an arc, he fired back, "Finite Incantatem!"

Hopefully, this spell would neutralize the other so he didn't end up helpless.

The round

The Blindfolding Spell? That was a smart move. Blindfooling the opponent right from the start, Sage had to plan this as soon as she knew she would be one of the duellists today, or at least that was what Luna guessed.

She didn't have the chance to continue to compliment the female lion from the inside, because Ambrose quickly cast a spell right after that. That was quick, probably because he realized which situation he was in. She tried not to let out a long sigh when she realized which spell that was. That familiar red light and the familiar way to pronounce it... how sad. This guy must have misunderstood the way to use it. The spell couldn't work, although he had cast it in the right way

At least, both of these lions succeed at casting the spells and hitting it right on their targets. However, what was going to happen next? A red blindfold quickly appeared over Ambrose's blue-grey eyes. This would be a good chance for Sage to attack him since he probably couldn't use his wand to attack because he didn't know where his target was but it would be also hard for him to dodge too...

Apparently, Finite Incantatem was not used that way.

It was one of those obvious things that a real wizard would have known, and the fact that his spell had no effect was like a punch to the gut. In the span of a second, a neon red blindfold was wrapped over his eyes, causing him to lose his vision.

His heart pounded as he tried to tug the blindfold off, but found that it wouldn't come unstuck that easily. He took shaky steps, already feeling less balanced than before. Pausing in place, he listened closely to his surroundings. There were no sounds from his opponent, and shouts from the crowd that confused his ears and caused his head to hurt. Well, he could guess what was happening without hearing. Raine was likely preparing a spell to fire at him while he was weak.

Staying light on his feet, Isaac focused his efforts on taking the blindfold off.

Even if she bloody throws me halfway to the moon, I can deal with it, he thought, feigning confidence that he didn't have.

Raine smirked as she watched Isaac try to pull the red blindfold off of his eyes. That wouldn't be an easy feat. She was honestly a bit surprised that her spell connected. She was never that lucky. But there her spell was, attached to her opponent's eyes. She felt bad since the boy wouldn't be able to see the next spell she would cast, but he could hear it.

Wracking her brain, she went through the list of available spells she could use against the blinded boy in front of her. She could burn him...but she figured she could save that for later. She could disarm him...that was a definite plan. But not right now. Hmm...tickle him until he can't bear it anymore? Maybe...but she wouldn't want him to pee his pants if it lasted longer than expected. She didn't want to embarrass the boy. Make him sneeze constantly? Yes, but again not right now. Same went with making him congested. Raine sighed as she wondered what she should do. But then it clicked. Should Isaac manage to get that blindfold off, he wouldn't hesitate to cast a spell at her and who knows whether her luck would stand strong the next time around.

Nodding to herself, Raine made up her mind. Pointing her wand at Isaac, she firmly said, "Mimblewimble." There was a 50-50 chance that it would connect and she prayed that the scale would tip in her favor.

The round

Silently looking at the Gryffindor guy trying to remove the blindfold, Luna nodded her head. Even if the other lion attacked him with an attacking spell, he should still remove this thing first. Jumping around trying to dodge or cast a spell without looking at the target was a dumb idea, and she was glad he didn't think of it.

Lucky for him, the blindfold wasn't too hard to remove. Just a little bit more and he could succeed with it. However, Sage started pointing her wand at the poor guy again. What would be the next spell?

Luna guessed a lot of spells, but the Tongue-Tying was the one which she didn't expect. Maybe it was because Ambrose couldn't see anything, so she thought the female lion would cast an attacking one, not another one to keep making him unable to attack.

The blue light quickly appeared and hit Ambrose, but the Slytherin Prefect could see that it actually not that strong. She doubted that it would affect him for a long time, but who knew? Maybe luck was still with him since it would be horrible if her spell was stronger than this.

The red blindfold also fell down after he had removed it. In addition, there were some people who were watching suddenly screamed and tried to take it. That was scary, and she wondered why. Maybe because they wanted to keep it as a memory of this duel. Maybe because they were fans of Ambrose or Sage. She had no idea, but what she needed to focus right now, Luna looked back at the two duellists, was what was going to happen now.
