Bella’s first few months at Hogwarts weren’t anything to write home about. Literally. She recieved a total of ten letters from her parents so far, all of them so detailed that she could have sworn that she was still back home in Brighton and Hove. Every time Bella responded, she could only muster up a mere paragraph. It seemed that sticking to herself and rejecting socialisation meant that she would not have many stories to share with her parents. She did feel bad, but not enough to go out there and make memories that she wanted to recount. This resulted in her parents’ letters growing shorter and shorter, but they still surpassed what the half-giant wrote.
As the dreaded winter months drew closer, Bella missed her home connections even more. So she decided that she would try writing something worth responding to. She wanted to recieve lengthy pages, thus she had to write some of her own. Deciding that a scenic writing spot would do her good, Bella settled under one of the few trees on the shore of the Great Lake. Water was always her safe space, so hopefully the familiar scent and sight would assist her in drumming up something interesting to tell her parents.

To the average person, she was just extra prepared for the cold afternoon, when in all actuality, she was hiding her seemingly-glass skin from the sun overhead. She had spent the entirety of October applying sunscreen and aloe vera to her burned skin, and she did not want a repeat of the month.
Her easily-burned skin didn't typically bother her, or at least it didn't before she went to Hogwarts. She'd spend the whole day outside playing in the sun, and then her father would chastise her for the sunburn marks and give her some magical ointment for them. But once she had started school, Scout found herself feeling generally uncomfortable with the idea of going to the nurse every other day for her burned skin. So, she asked her dad to send her some muggle sunscreen and skincare, under the guise that she needed it for glass or for a friend. It felt too weird to ask him to send magical ointment.
Even if her skin burned marks for eternity, she wouldn't be able to stop herself from going outside and hanging out under the warm sun. It didn't matter where she'd soak it up, just that she could. Initially she had wanted to practice some magic in the courtyard, but it was loud and for once, Scout didn't want to deal with it.
She would've instead headed to the Grounds, but everyone and their friend's were playing or chatting around the trees, so she opted for the last place she could go; the infamous Great Lake, there was a cool squid kids would throw food for and lots of trees, just a nice place to spend the afternoon. Plus, if the sun would go away for a bit, Scout could join in on skipping rocks! Not that she were particularly good at it...
"Hey!" She called once she neared the shore, spotting another young girl sitting with some parchment nearby. "You busy? Can I hangout with you for a bit?"
don't look at me; you can't understand, right? i'm just like a monstrous flower that bloomed too soon
