date. [ 08/01/24 ]———————————word count. [ 252 ] The amount Briar would push himself for the sake of his brother was both abysmal and the definition of loyalty for the younger of the Toussaint twins. Not only was Briar, a notorious scaredy cat on a broom, the official second string seeker for the Castelobruxo Quidditch Team thanks to a certain person's sign-up and a fluke display of excellence, but now he was also signed up for this unofficial broom racing event! If his entire heart hadn't been for his twin and ensuring the boy passed each year with flying colors, he could hex him for the anxiety-inducing activities he simply had to partake in (mostly because Briar was too shy to say no). A funny fact for a young man's mind of the most devilish of thoughts and snide remarks. Briar gripped onto his borrowed Silver Arrow, a lend from a friend, as he watched as the other's introduced himself and even a gift from one of his teammates and Briar hadn't much to say to such a large group of students. He gripped onto his wand to ensure he had it in place for when the race would begin and gave as friendly of a nod that he could muster to his own teammates and spoke a quiet introduction. " Briar, Second Year Castelobruxo. " Deciding that the others could learn of his connection to Alphonse and Sereia in their own time. For now, he'd focus on staying on his broom and not hurling his breakfast across the entire race course. ——— [ notes ] sorry for the delay!! |

ROUND 1
Alyssea could barely keep up with how many spells went flying as soon as she said go, and with perfect synchronicity, too. On one team, a pair of racers aimed for a specific person. The other team took a more "spread out" approach and tried to hit almost everyone. If there was one specific person that took the most damage out of everyone, it would have to be Cyrus. Poor boy just couldn't catch a break with the rocks and a freezing spell!ATTACKS

She gasped as two racers met the snow-covered ground. "Well, that's not fun," she said to herself. Grounding one person was a great idea, but two? Now that was annoying to the enemy team. Retribution for Cyrus taking every single hit aimed at him, though? Probably.UNIT 3 - Moderate Fog

There was joy in being the moderator, the audience who had no clue what was going on in the racers' heads and just enjoyed seeing them tough it out. If she had to watch her racers fall like Judas and Briar, she would be stressing in the stands.

Miharu was fared better than Alphonse at the track. After a small patch of fog, he had come out a bit disoriented, hitting some walls on his way out. Miharu was in slightly better condition, despite having hit the walls herself. At least it wasn't trees! Hitting trees was never fun.UNIT 5 - Moderate Narrow Passageway

Alyssea gave the two frontrunners a clap. "Good flying! Keep it up! You've still got three-quarters of the way to go."

the 'fit: cyrus is wearing a black hoodie, olive green cargo shorts and wizard crocs. he has a pair of duck sunglasses on.
the broom: oakshaft 79 (+4 to evasion & stamina)

As if it wasn't cold enough!
His hoodie couldn't save him after he took off. He felt something hit him, he wasn't quite sure what it was, exactly, but he spun around to try to figure out who shot it at him, only to be hit by yet another thing, this time... something cold. This summer was beginning to make Cyrus yearn for the sticky warmth of New York in the summer, or even Hawai'i, anything but the cold. He shuddered as the spell's effects spread over him, numbness reaching even though his hoodie, his knuckles tightening as he forced himself to hold onto his wand and broom. He grit his teeth.

No more Mr Nice Guy – that had hurt. He was still reeling from that thing that had been shot at him. He glanced around, gaze narrowing in on the older kids – Chiaki, he recognised, but there was another one, a boy, who definitely looked strong enough to throw things. 'It's not nice to throw things at people!' Cyrus shouted, waving his wand and adding a, 'Retro Genibus!' to his words.
But, of course, the universe had other cruel, cold things in mind for him. He would hardly register that his spell hadn't landed when snow began to fall. 'What in the corn nuts!?' he exclaimed, staring with wide, sad eyes at the white flakes that had begun to fall. His lower lip might have trembled slightly before his jaw dropped. The cold reverberated throughout him, no longer just a single spot of numbness, but rather, something he felt deep in his bones.
He watched to see Miharu and another child speeding ahead. That brought the mildest bit of warmth to his heart, which refrained from spreading that warmth to the rest of him. Despite the small smile that now replaced the expression of endless disappointment that had previously coloured his visage, his fingers still shook slightly even as he held onto his broom tighter, suddenly aware of his speed. The wind whipping against his face only solidified the notion that the cold was not the only horrifying part of racing: it was broom racing, after all. Why had he done this to himself, again? Just for the experience of a 'new thing'?
One day, Cyrus would gain common sense. Today was not that day.

• Wand owner receives +2 Accuracy on spells
• After a successful Wisdom Check and potential Auto-Fail Checks, an additional d20 is rolled. If the result is 19 or 20, a random Duelling spell is selected from the caster's Trunk. This spell will target the same player who the caster was aiming at with their first spell (even if either of the two are spells that do not require Acc/Eva rolls).
• The second spell is an auto-success (does not require a Wisdom or Auto-Fail Check), but will have to go through the Targeting and Accuracy phase independent of the first spell.
• In case the caster is affected by Alluring, the second spell is also redirected towards the new target.
• In case the first spell does not have a target (or more than one target), the second spell targets a random player apart from the caster (in addition to the original target, if applicable).
• If the caster uses Spell Spread, only the primary cast (not the spread) has the chance of an additional spell being cast.

Perhaps less of his time should have been dedicated to practicing his accuracy and a bit more of it put towards evasion. While he saw the horribly uncouth boy's hand as it darted out towards his hair (which he had spent a perfectly reasonable hour and fifteen minutes artfully tousling this morning) he was unable to escape the ominous drop of the guillotine quick enough, and was left to stand there in their little circle, mourning the loss of his time and his aesthetic. He responded to the egregious attack upon his person very bravely and benevolently, in his opinion, (i.e., doing nothing) when he would have been well within his rights to challenge the older boy to a duel right then and there.
The older boy was hot, though, so Judas would resist the calls for vengeance and anathematization in heart, for now. At least until after they'd won the race.
"I haven't the faintest idea what would qualify a drink as a sports drink," Water? Was that just water? "But confidence I can most certainly give you."
At the starting line he spotted Elias, who'd he met at the Hogwarts Spring Ball the previous April, and sent him a quick wave. There would be time enough for catching up after the race had concluded.
No risk means no reward; in this case, no reward was to be had either way. His failure would be brought on by his own hubris, vain and cocky thing that he was. He'd just learned the Blindfolding Spell, and was nowhere near adept enough at it yet to have made attempting it in such an unfamiliar environment a good idea, but what was the point in participating in events like this if not to push oneself, to soar to even higher heights? The blonde boy let out a series of words I shant repeat here as his spell, aimed at Elias, failed to manifest at all. Perhaps as retribution for the failed attack, or perhaps just due to coincidental strategy, Elias had set his own sights on Judas in return, knocking him from his broom.
Now not only was his hair ruined from Madhup's filthy little hands, but it was now also afflicted with branches, dirt, and snow from his fall. Oh, how he loathed Britain.

┏ ┓ It was reasonable to pin Madhup the captain of his impromptu team, being the eldest... until he opened his mouth, at which point all credibility of being the most responsible present would immediately be put into question. Placing him in charge of a gaggle of kids may not have been the wisest choice, given his leading piece of advice. "Okay my friends, first rule: someone flies ahead of you, throw a rock at their head." He happily provided some stones he had pocketed on the walk there. Premeditated violence was his forte, and coincidentally his go-to when strategizing. Mad was a known bully in the skies when it came to Quidditch, so he surmised racing wouldn't be much different. Work with what you know. "Any of you who like spells, we start with the biggest guy." Skimming the surrounding faces, his eyes settled on Alphonse (@Remedy Norden). Glancing from the white-knuckled grip of his broom to the deliberately confident expression, Mad was sure he saw something familiar in the fellow Chaser. "You look fast." He smirked encouragingly. "Fly as hard as you can. Claim the lead and we will follow."
Madhup would play on his own advice once the race kicked off. His malicious attentions latched onto Cyrus (@Koko Riddle), slipping a stone from his pocket and lobbing it with a vicious pitch. He was all teeth when the boy looked back, grinning like a dog and sticking out his tongue to drive the point home. Durmstrang's Chaser was always happy to play the heel. He goaded opponents with his antics, confident he could dance from the path of retaliation, or tank whatever hit landed. When Cyrus' spell whizzed past, he loosed a mocking cackle, singing "Try again, prettyboy! I have more rocks for you." He risked a backwards glance. Three of their opponents were still in the first unit, but two of their allies were on the ground there. His smirk wavered when he realized they'd fallen all that way. Like Alphonse, one of Team Two's fliers had simply barreled ahead as fast as he could, and the big one, Cyrus, was neck-and-neck with himself and Chiaki (@Pax Zhang). When she landed an icy spell on him, Mad called a congradulatory "Nice shot" over the whipping wind. He cupped his mouth as he hollered back to Judas (@Rebecca Lark) and Briar (@Ulysses Drake): "Be brave, dragonlings! Bite back!"┗ ┛ ReducioBroom: Varápidos

With a bang (quite a few actually) the race was off. Spells flew in all directions, though Cass was spared from being the target of any, probably of their short height and young age. It did honestly make sense, and it was good for them. They weren't asking to have any spells aimed at them thank you very much. Speaking of spells, it seemed it was time for one of their own. Holding their wand and still trying to fly at a decent speed, they flung a taratangella at an older girl they didn't recognise. Sadly, their spell just missed her. She would be spared from dancing today.
Duck boy seemed to be a popular target, and wasn't very good at dodging. Apparently these "rubber ducks" did not grant good luck in broom racing. Focusing back on the track, Cass shot forward to bring up their teams rear. Racing was very much a team sport, so they weren't bothered about it. Hopefully they could help out with a few spells aimed at unsuspecting targets backs. Throwing rocks was apparently also a thing (and a legal one, surprisingly). Huh, this was actually fun. Of course, it would be more fun if their team was winning. But flying around basically having a duel on broomsticks was great. They should do this more often.

Spells went flying the moment it did and lucky for Miharu, none of those went for her but poor Cyrus though, taking all those hits. She has no time however, no time to look back and feel bad for him, no time to check if her teammates succeeded in taking down a bunch of their opponents for she has a job to do and that’s to create distance as much as possible.
It felt familiar, she did something similar didn’t she? Her first try in broom racing? While everything was a blur for her, she does remember she had the same start, trying to gain distance. In any case, she set those aside and her focus went back to the current race. Someone had the same idea as hers though and they sure are doing their best to keep up. Through the snow and fog she had no problems, even through the first narrow passageway. Perhaps she got too confident as she can’t say the same to the next one that came after as she found herself hitting the walls, gritting her teeth as she kept her broom steady to avoid more damage.
No matter, that was her own fault. She was lucky it only cost her a scratch or a bruise and not more that could put her team in jeopardy. She took a quick look behind, catching a glimpse of the outcome of her teammates’ action. People were on the ground but Cyrus wasn’t looking well with all those attacks going for him but he’s still in this game which is good.❰▬▬▬❀▬▬▬❱Mentions »»» @Astra Norrick as Elias Travers | @Koko Riddle as Cyrus Darsel | @Cass Ito | @Alejandro Garcia

Word Count: 212 Interacting: @Pericles Dralt as Madhup, @Rebecca Lark as Judas, @Ulysses Drake as Briar, @Remedy Norden as Alphonse Date: August 1st 2024The eldest, Madhup, seemed to naturally take charge, and Chiaki was grateful for some leadership as to how to fare in this race. With a strategy in place, she put her game face on and set off once the game began.
Wand outstretched, she was one of the medley that aimed an offensive spell towards the opponent team, targeting Cyrus. She had duelled him before, and knew that he was a strong spellcaster - definitely a force to be reckoned with - and therefore a clear target to take down. Taking careful aim, she cast her spell that hit him squarely and caused him to freeze up, and she grinned. Unfortunately, her teammates' luck was slightly less fortunate, especially as two of them were knocked off their own brooms.
At least Alphonse was faring better, having made his way forwards alongside fellow Mahoutokoro student Miharu. She knew Miharu's serious and competitive side was definitely beginning to reveal itself, if it hadn't already, but she also was proud to see it. However, that pride easily subsided when she quickly realised she had fallen behind with everyone else. She hadn't pushed ahead like she was used to. Whilst that realisation was painful, she had to focus. Ultimately, if her team won, it would be worth it.Action: As StrategisedReducioStats:

date. [ 08/01/24 ]———————————word count. [ 203 ] He wasn't expecting this broom racing match to go so well but he hadn't expected for someone to attempt to knock him right off his broom! Briar held on tight as the foe swooped in eagerly and leaned himself right into Briar forcing him to make a decision while in the air and it ended up with Briar tumbling onto the wintery course as he ate a little snow when landing on the floor. Spitting out the snow, Briar let out a grumpy exhale as he watched the man who bumped him off his broom continue forward with him and the Beaubaxtons student on his team both landing on the floor. His eyes watched the other carefully, following in his footsteps as he gripped onto the Silver Arrow and figured out his next steps. The icy course was really all Briar could see and there were a few students still in front of him maneuvering through the obstacles and that was perfect because it meant that Briar could follow in pursuit without trying to figure out these distractions himself. The one thing he knew for sure was that these types of races were about the long game and they had only just begun. ——— [ notes ] go, team, go! |

I shivered from the cold. Alright, this track's not so easy. The cold wind stinged my skin and multiple white snowflakes landed on my arm. I slowed down from the cold and it helped a bit. Though the loss of speed resulted in me dropping back from the rest of the racers. I observed around me and saw that two of the older students had rushed ahead. The rest of us were still in each other's sight and bunched together in a pack.
