The rain pounded upon the windows outside while it seemed that the entirety of the castle's occupants had decided to hole up indoors. It was horrific out and already Erika had been back up to the Ravenclaw dormitories to change into fresh, clean and dry robes. She had gotten absolutely soaked after her Herbology class that morning and Erika was so thankful that she wouldn't have to go back outside again that day. Her quill scratched across the parchment in front of her as she made reference to her potions textbook which was placed next to it.

The work set was challenging but she was adamant that she would get through it without seeking help. She couldn't ever recall her brother Matthias asking for help, so Erika had decided that she, too, wouldn't seek help unless it was absolutely necessary. Was she being frightfully stubborn? Naturally, of course. Yet the memory of speaking out of turn, asking for something when she hadn't really needed it and receiving a stinging hex for her troubles stood out too clear in her brain.

Erika's quill scratched so hard through the word that she had wanted to cross out that the nib of her quill snapped. Letting out sigh she let it drop onto her parchment, watching the broken nib pool ink all over her previously pristine work. This was impossible. Well, it wasn't. She could feel the frustration ebbing through her and looked up at a giggle, a cold glare settling upon whoever had decided to sit down opposite the first-year girl.

"Excuse me, this isn't funny."

Astrid hated rain. It prevented her from enjoying the wonderful sights, sounds, and smells of being outside. On the other hand, however, she wasn't all that opposed to spending a day in the comforting warmth of the Hogwarts library. Once she had finished all of her classes for the day, she immediately hurried to the library, grabbed a book and settled into a comfortable armchair to read.

The quiet snapping of a nearby fireplace, the tapping of rain on the tall windows, and the scratching of quills on paper were soothing sounds to her ears, allowing her to become fully enveloped in her book. After nearly an hour of reading, she sat up and stretched, her muscles stiff from being in the same position for so long. She nearly fell out of her chair when she saw the time, realizing that she still had homework to do that night.

Quickly gathering up her textbooks, paper, and quill, she began the search for an available table to do her work on. Because of the rain and the hour of the day, there was quite a large number of students in the library, working on their various assignments. So it took her a few minutes until she finally found a table occupied only by one other girl, whose quill was furiously scratching on her parchment.

Astrid attempted to focus on her own work, but when she heard the snap of a quill tip, she looked up to see ink seeping through the other girl's otherwise pristine writing. She felt bad for the girl, but at the same time, she thought it just the slightest bit amusing that whatever she had been writing had been destroyed by a simple snapped quill. A small giggle accidentally escaped her lips and she immediately clamped her hand over her mouth to silence any further laughter.

The glare the other girl shot her sent a chill down Astrid's spine and she immediately felt horrible for laughing. "Excuse me, this isn't funny," said the girl.

"I'm so so sorry!" Astrid apologized. "I didn't mean to laugh!" She felt almost sick with guilt. She wasn't normally a mean person and didn't want to come across as such. She just hoped that her apology was enough to diffuse the other girl's anger.

Amaya's studies were interrupted by the sound of laughter, and a voice saying "This isn't funny!" from across the room. At-least, that's what she thought it had said. She peered around a bookcase to see what was going on, and hoped they hadn't seen her. She probably shouldn't of been hiding in the bookshelves like this, but she really just wanted some peace and quiet. The sound of the rain soothed her, and made her sleepy, but she wanted to study and get good grades here. She hid in-between two bookshelves, and read her own copy of  Magical Drafts and Potions and took notes of it. She was fine being away from other students, and liked to just read and focus on the rain. It poured down on the windows, and she liked to listen to the sound of each of the drops falling. It was her favorites thing, to listen to the rain, back at home. She wondered if the two people she heard had noticed her, and she peered around the corner once more. I hope they didn't see me she just wanted to get through one more chapter. But, then again, they could be her new friends. She still felt kind of lonely here, and needed someone to talk to. I'll just stay here...

Willow hated rain. Willow hated the pouring, drizzling rain because it prevented her from going to care of magical creatures class. Sh e walked into the library and immediately sighed in relief at the crackling fireplace's heat. She set down her soaked 'rainy day' robe next to it in hopes of the flame drying the cloak. She threw her books onto the floor, after finding a spot inbetween the bookshelves, and sat down. She sat down and looked hopefully at the girl in front of her. She recognised the girl from breakfast. Amaya , a fellow ravenclaw. "Hey Amaya..?" She sounded hesitant, so she tried using her confident voice . "Amaya, I'm sorry about this morning, I'm not that chatty when I meet people for the first time.. " You sound like an idiot Willow, only idiots talk like that. She sighed, wishing she knew how to talk to people. Allthough everyone in the same house were supposed to be similar people, she just couldnt talk to anyone.
Suddenly she heard a burning sound from behind her. She spun round and realised her cloak, which she had set by the fire, was burning. She ran towards it and fell onto her knees, crying. "No, no no. I'll never be able to afford another cloak.." She kneeled there for what felt like hours, crying and then consoling herself more and more, until she got up and sat back down in her chair. She picked up her potions textbook and began studying.

She heard the familiar voice of the sweet girl at breakfast, and smiled, gathering all of her notes and quills closer to her "Oh! Hey again!". She really trusted this girl, and she didn't really know why. She just seemed so kind to her... even after she was kind of awkward. "Its okay, i'm awkward towards everyone.." She said with a small chuckle I smell smoke One of her greatest fears was fire "H-hey... um... are you alright, I smell smoke--" she stopped when she saw her face. It seemed her robe had burned, and she was teary-eyed and crying "A-are you okay?!" she stood up. How am I supposed to comfort her? I'm bad at comforting people... "I-its okay-! I'm sure there's a spell to fix your robe!". She felt truly horrible for her "Um... i-i'll go look through the shelves-!" she ran over to some of the tall bookshelves, desperately trying to find the right book. "I-its okay!! I'm sure we'll find something! There must be a book! There are so many books here that could have something!" That didn't sound comforting! Jeez... so many books... I need to find something for her She pulled a few books off a shelf, and opened them "There might be something in these!" She didn't even notice that she had sat up again, and continued to study.

Willow stared at her notebook, the pages stained with tears. She put on a brave face, looked up from her textbook and smiled sadly at Amaya. "Amaya, you remind me of.. well.. Me!"
You sound like an idiot Willow..She stood up and pulled a couple books off of the shelf too. "Lets see, there should be something!" Willow felt comfortable around Amaya, and Amaya had cheered her up with her scatter-brained approach to everything. "I need to ask Amaya, did you ever get the syrup off of your own robes? It's probably gonna stain if you don't get it out soon." She popped the end of her pencil in her mouth and desperately flicked through pages and pages, looking for a spell that would reverse the effects of the flames. "No.. Nope.. Not that.. DEFINITELY Not that.. No.." She slammed the last book shut. The wind felt lovely on her face, which did two things. Iy distracted her from her misery, and it reminded her of how much she loved windy days , flying kites , and anything to do with wind in general . She sadly shook her head. " Did you find anything? I'll probably just buy a new robe.. "

Amaya looked over to her At-least she's happy again! "No. My robe is still covered!" She laughed, and awkwardly smiled "There's honestly probably a spell for stains" she pulled open a large book, and flipped through a few pages, before sighing and mumbling "Not that one" and carefully setting it back. A few people entered the library, and she noticed how weird they must seem doing this. Two girls, both with ruined robes, ripping through the shelves trying to find books. She laughed at herself We most look so strange... but, this is Hogwarts so... and pulled open another book. "I'm sure there's something we can do." She smiled "If not, i'm sure you can buy a new one!" Hopefully she has enough money for one... she felt sympathy for her, and a thought popped into her head, making her feel idiotic and cold-hearted She could of been burned, and I didn't even think about that! "Did it burn you?" She stopped speeding through books and turned around "It was just the robe, right?" There must be some kind of spell to fix clothing... hopefully to mend burnt clothing "If you got burnt we should make sure it isn't that bad. Isn't there someone here who can help with injuries? Like a magic nurse or something..." Magic nurse?! Duh! That sounds dumb She laughed at herself "I... I didn't mean magic nurse..." and paused for a second "but, yeah that's basically what I meant.." she stifled her laughter after that Must see weird that i'm laughing at myself...

@Astrid Hart

As the library somehow became a hustle and bustle of noise, Erika fought the action of pinching the bridge of her nose. Naturally, of course, she had spare quills in her bag but at the same time she had a feeling that continuing to work would only create more spilled ink. Not to mention more broken quills, replacing them wasn't exactly costly - it just happened to be more of an irritation really. Once she had learned reparo, then it'd be less of an annoyance.

As the other girl in front of her giggled and then almost instantly apologised after, the glare that Erika had fixated on her lessened. Sitting back with a sigh and a look of pure loathing towards the parchment in front her, the perfect penmanship utterly ruined. Pushing back a stray piece of hair behind her ear and looked at the other girl again, recognising her from Ravenclaw house and having been at the sorting ceremony when Erika herself was sorted. The anger she had felt at being laughed at deflated as she sat back, a small smile cracking out of the icy exterior. It was only an assignment, right? She could easily start again.

"...Sorry, I didn't mean to snap at your like that,"grimaced Erika, "Today's been awful hasn't it?" She looked towards the window again where the rain was hammering against the glass. On other days it'd be relaxing but apparently today it wasn't supposed to be that way. "I'm Erika...you're Astrid right?" At the scent of smoke, something burning and then a girl crying - Erika couldn't help but look over and arch an eyebrow at the sight and grimaced again at the sound of a book being slammed before looking back to Astrid, "So much for a quiet library session."

Amaya had heard what the girl said, but she didn't mind. She knew they must have caused a commotion, and it probably disturbed some people, but right now she didn't care. She was worried about her friend. This wasn't a usual thing for her to do, she wasn't that great at comforting people, but, now that she was in Hogwarts, she would search the library for hours trying to find a spell to help. She wondered if she should ask the girl for help, but thought otherwise. She might get annoyed i'm asking her for help right after I disturb her work... She sighed, and tried to think of something to do. I wish my mother were here, she always had spells that would work But of course, it was her job to find a spell now. She was at Hogwarts, the best wizarding school around, at-least, in her opinion. So, why didn't she ask a teacher or someone? It would be awkward trying to ask a teacher to help mend a burnt robe with a spell. She could barely talk to teachers about normal things. Heck, she could barely talk to people at all. She was still worried her friend had gotten burnt, and so many thoughts were racing through her mind. She had basically just gotten here, and she already needed to ask someone else to help her with her problems, someone she didn't know or trust, someone she had only seen in the library that day. She needed to ask for help from another student, she just didn't know how. How do you bring something up like that? Oh hey i'm Amaya! My friend's robe is burnt and she is possibly hurt! Can you use a spell i'm to dumb to find in a book to help her? Yeah, this was going to be one of her more awkward conversations.

The light shone onto her face, and showed her wide eyes, and shaking hands. Amaya looked at her arms with fear in her eyes "Yes!! We need to go get help! I-i didn't know you got burnt!" she the book she was holding on the ground "Is it really bad?! Do you know how to treat burns! I-i don't know if it'll get worse-!" I should've checked to see if she was hurt first!! What if it scars, what if its really bad?! She looked over to Willow "We should've headed to the hospital wing first!" she wasn't mad, just worried and afraid What if it gets worse?! "Are you okay?!". She grabbed her hand, and pulled her to the door. Then, she stopped and quickly let go "S-sorry! I-i'm really sorry if that hurt!" She grabbed her own wand and pointed it in the air "L-lumos!" her voice shook as she said it. Her wand tip lit up a bright blue/white, and she held it in-front of her. "I-i didn't realize how late it was getting! I hope we don't get caught by a teacher... i'm not sure what time it is" She was rambling to Willow, but mostly to herself. "L-lets head to the hospital wing! The burns seem kind of bad..." She didn't want to worry her "I-its probably fine-!"
