The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Charlotte walked between the rows of tables, feeling that everybody was looking at her. Her breath was shaking and she felt her heart beat faster by the minute. She didn't know what to expect and feared it would be some kind of test. The group of first years finally arrived in front of a bizarre hat atop a stool.
The headmaster stood up and greeted the new students with his usual start of year speech, but Charlotte didn't quite listen to a word he was saying, lost in her thoughts. She was confused and tried to figure out what was going on, but was quickly brought back to reality when the professor unrolled a piece of parchment and called a name. Much to Charlotte's relief, she wasn't the first on the list. She watched as a confident girl walked towards up the steps and sat on the stool, as the professor put the hat on her head. All of a sudden, the hat opened what looked like a mouth and yelled 'SLYTHERIN'. Charlotte watched, her mouth open as the student walked towards a table, greeted by everyone.
As she turned around, what she dreaded happened.
'Cadunt, Charlotte'
She walked towards the aisle and sat on the stool, as the professor put once again the hat on her head. She heard a small voice talking to her, but couldn't quite make out if it was in her head or someone talking to her.
'I see... Very serious, quite determined.... Very loyal and sympathetic. You care deeply about your loved ones, you push yourself very hard... Better be...'
Charlotte closed her eyes shut and took a deep breath.
'HUFFLEPUFF!'
Charlotte's face was illuminated by a smile and opened her eyes, watching as the Hufflepuff table started cheering. She got up and headed towards the table as she caught a glimpse of her cousin, still waiting to be sorted.
She sat down and was immediately greeted by the prefects a few students.
A few minutes passed and Charlotte had eaten everything she could, not having eaten for hours, she was ravenous. The prefects then stood up, inviting everyone to follow them to their common room.

Holly woke up as the student next to her tapped her shoulder. She was way too tired, luckily she was wearing her favorite pair of shades. she takes them off. When her name gets called by a magical talking hat, she was weirded out. It looked rather creepy in her eyes. Meh, it was magic after all... holly wanders her way onto the seat. and the hat starts analyzing her personality, it was shockingly accurate, her eyes drifted to the sides of the room, just so she doesn't have to stare at the people staring right back at her. The hat continues to judge Holly and suddenly a loud name of her house was announced by the hat.
"RAVENCLAW!"
she was about to ask the hat where to go before she avoided the awkward question as she spotted the table with a bunch of people cheering and a flag literally with an eagle on it. she shrugs and proceeds to walk towards the table, she might look relaxed and carefree but she started to blush as the crowd cheered on.
"Woah there... what did i do to deserve this?"
she thought to herself,
she smiles and jokingly does a salute to her house, while jogging to a empty seat.

It wasnt often Alice felt this uncomfortable. Sure, she was shy, and a tad awkward, but it was a totally different kind of uncomfortable than if she'd had an awkward conversation with a stranger or embarrassed herself in front of loads of people. This feeling felt life altering, in a way. She couldnt decide which was more frightening, getting up in front of the entire school, or being sorted into a house she'd have to stay in for the next eight years.
Even though her last name was at the beginning of the alphabet, getting to her felt like it'd been hours of anticipation. But she was snapped out of her shell by a loud calling of her name, eyes glancing up towards the front and she took a deep breath, letting it fill her lungs and hug them tightly before exhaling, heading through the crowd at a slow pace to the front. She made sure to watch her feet so she wouldnt trip over her cloak or the steps, glancing up at all of the professors and Headmaster before sitting herself down, waiting for the sorting hat to be placed atop her head.
The hat fell just over her eyes, a bulky, heavy thing it was. It seemed to be thinking, smirking almost? Was it at her? Was it something she'd done? Alice began to worry, the crowd in front of her a small buzz and becoming blurry. She decided to close her eyes, yeah, that'd help.
"Oh dear, plenty, plenty of intelligence. Though lacking some common sense.." The sorting hat hummed deeply, and Alice grew crimson in the face. "Has a bit of a temper, quite perceptive as well. Ahh, now where shall you go?"
Alices heart was racing, hammering in her chest as she awaited the answer, cmon, just say it, please!
"Ravenclaw!" The hat declared to all, Alice immediately hearing a cheering coming from her left. She peeked up from under the hat as it was lifted from her head, a soft, sweet smile across her face as she hopped off the chair, a quick glance back at the staff before she descended the steps and made her way to the Ravenclaw table, taking a seat next to a small boy who'd also just been chosen for the house. Once she sat down she let out a long sigh of relief, she was truly overjoyed, she felt this was the perfect fit, and she was grateful.

Circe nervously, listened to The Sorting Hat sing it's song. She had spent many years thinking about which house she would be in if she were accepted into Hogwarts. Her father Marcus, had been a Slytherin, but her dad Dauin had been a Gryffindor. Her mother, whom she knew nothing about, had presumably gone to Hogwarts as well. Though of course Circe knew not which house she'd have been in. So the question of which house she would belong to had always been a mystery. Hell, she didn't even know which of her fathers she belonged to biologically. So the sorting was a complete mystery to come.
"You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart" the Hat had sung, but Circe didn't feel brave. Sure she had shown bravery like dad, by handling deadly and dangerous magical creatures. Right now though, she was terrified.
"You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal." Just and loyal? Circe wondered what that even meant. No, she didn't feel like a Hufflepuff either.
"Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've got a ready mind." Ready mind huh? Circe had a ready mind. She was here to learn. To become the best witch she could. Perhaps Ravenclaw was the house for her?
"Or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends. " Slytherin. Yes Slytherin sounded like a good house. Cunning, determined, using any means to achieve their ends. Slytherin seemed like a decent fit as well.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the calling of her name. "Pyro, Circe!" Circe strolled forward nervously. Her legs shaking slightly as she went. The whole school was looking at her. Wobbling slightly, she sat, and felt the hat slip down over her red and black hair.
"Hmm, an interesting mix I see in your head." said the Hat. "Brave aren't you. Cunning too. A thirst for knowledge. Oh yes a hungry thirst. Loyal too. Interesssting!"
Circe squeezed her hands together and pressed them between her knees, praying no one could see how she shook.
"I see it now. Yes, I see it now." whispered the Hat. "Slytherin!" shouted the Hat, and just before it was pulled from her head, Circe heard "Cunning girl aren't you." She would have liked to have asked what the Hat meant. To ask why Slytherin, but the students and staff were clapping and the next name had already been called. So, feeling slightly sick, Circe stumbled her way down to her new house table. Slytherin.

As soon as her name was called, Tara's heart sunk. She had been silently hoping that maybe perhaps they'd skip her, and she wouldn't have to stand up in front of the many students all watching her as she got her house. What if she made a fool of herself? What if she tripped and fell in front of everyone? She took a deep breath, composing herself, and made her way up to the front where the sorting hat would be placed on her head.
Tara held her breath, trying to slow her pounding heart and sat down on the stool. She kept her gaze on the floor, trying to forget the audience, and even relaxing a little.
"Nervous, eh?" The sorting hat chuckled, causing Tara to wince every so slightly. "Hm... This should be easy. You are warm, kind and humble, but-" Her nerves flared up again at this 'but'. Tara knew she was most likely going to be put in Hufflepuff, and that's what she had set her sights set on. But right now, the Sorting Hat seemed to have something else in mind. "You have wisdom, and even courage deep within you... If placed in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, who knows what kind of wizard you could become? Hm... but I know where you belong." The silent pause felt like forever to the young wizard. "You're a Hufflepuff through and through." With that, one word echoed around the Great Hall.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Echo was, eagerly looking around, he was well, still wasn't sure if he was dreaming, it was a grand sight to behold though, so many people, around his age and not, sitting at each and every table. He was excited and never wanted to wake up.
That is, Until he heard "ECHO PURE"
It was at this moment, that he kind of just, woke up from his little dream land, all eyes were on him, and he nervously got up, he was tempted to just run, but Adventurers dont run, they walk into danger. So he took a deep breath, and made his way up to the Sorting Hat, Taking a seat on the Stool.
The Hat gave a bit of a chuckle as it saw his Nervousness, not in a mocking way, but more of how a friend would be in response to a joke, it, calmed Echo Slightly.
"I see great Confidence within you, and a desire for Adventure...Maybe Gryffindor..." The hat says, before seeming to think "But what do we have here, A desire for Friends, and longing trust in what few friends you have. and the want to work hard to get to your desire, not to get there instantly. There is only one place for someone like you.
The Sorting Hat Clears its "Throat" and yells out
"HUFFLEPUFF
and to that, Echo was speechless at the Entire Hufflepuff Table burst into clapping, and some people of other houses to! It, wasnt what he was expecting, he was expecting Gryffindor, but, he decided to trust the hat, and went down, to sit with his new large "family".

The last few months had been such a blur for Brooke. Learning that magic was real and that she could go to a special school to study it? It was a revelation that completely changed her life. Just like that she was tossed into a whole new world, with owls and moving pictures and great wizards. It still felt like a dream, but Brooke was determined to make the most of it.
It seemed the rushed introduction had all be leading up to this point: the sorting hat. Brooke didn’t quite grasp the significance of the houses, but the kids from wizarding backgrounds seemed rigid with anticipation. The feeling was infectious, for as it drew closer and closer to Brooke’s turn with the hat, she felt her heart accelerating. Her thin frame was just about shaking with both nervousness and anticipation as it came time for her to step forward.
What if the hat found that there were some sort of mistake, and Brooke didn’t actually have magic at all? What if her housemates didn’t like her? Maybe the hat would chose incorrectly and she wouldn’t fit in with the others. She hadn’t ever been away from her family like this before, and she wasn’t sure what she could do if things went wrong! Would anyone be sympathetic? Would she be allowed to leave? It hadn’t even been a day and already Brooke wanted to escape the confines of the Great Hall and curl up back on her bed.
In the midst of her racing thoughts, Brooke’s legs had carried her forward to the stool unconsciously. All the eyes were on her; there was no turning back now. Gingerly she grabbed onto the hat’s rim, carefully guiding the worn form and placing it on her head, hoping she wouldn’t do anything to offend the apparently-sentient apparel.
There was a moment of hesitation, and she could hear the hat humming to itself. Brooke wasn’t sure if she was supposed to say anything, so she stayed silent, fidgeting restlessly. “Ravenclaw!” the hat announced suddenly, ending its deliberation. There were some cheers and Brooke hastily shifted back down for the next student. All doubts were forgotten, instead excitement taking its place as Brooke rushed to the table of her new house.

The Sorting.
The most important event that would dictate the rest of Parker’s entire life. Her house would affect the people she spent the majority of her time with, how other people saw her, and especially the type of person she would eventually become, what with all the stereotypes and such. All the houses seemed like good candidates, from what Parker could see as she stared coldly down at the tables, all of which were quiet in anticipation to see which house each first year ended up in.
Well… maybe not all of them.
Personally, Parker wanted to be in either Slytherin or Ravenclaw. From what she heard from her mother, the people in the green and blue houses were typically a respectable folk. Nothing like the savage beast her Gryffindor father was, who was always loud and stomping around as if he were a toddler. If Parker had to choose, she would follow in her mother’s footsteps and be a beautiful, mysterious Slytherin. Shame that Louise Loveless had her own faults as well, all of which Parker couldn’t just ignore.
She didn’t want to even consider Hufflepuff. Frolicking puppies in buttercup meadows, the lot of them. Mother told her that they didn’t have any defining traits to get them sorted in the other three houses, so the Sorting Hat just lumped them in their yellows and blacks. Parker shielded her eyes away from the badger house—perhaps if she didn’t look at them, then she wouldn’t get sorted there.
Soon, Parker’s name got called, and she made sure to glide gracefully toward the stool in order to make a lasting impression on all the students. Crossing her legs once she sat, the girl straightened her back and did her best to look as poised and elegant as possible. Finally, someone lowered the hat onto her perfect head.
Parker Loveless, eh? sounded an unfamiliar voice. Parker gasped and almost jumped out of her seat. She knew that the Sorting Hat could speak, but—
Oh, be calm, will you? Now, let’s see… Merlin, you’ve got nothing of your father in you! Everything in your noggin is just like your mother, though I wouldn’t take that entirely as a compliment.
Parker’s face flushed a brilliant angry red. Just like her mother? Just like Louise? This stupid hat—
Hmm, though the more that I take a peek, maybe I was wrong. Jason certainly mellowed the Louise out within you. But enough about them, and more about you. Gryffindor, definitely not. Ravenclaw, almost, but not quite. Slytherin…
Her heart began to race. Slytherin. Yes, that was what she wanted—
No. So, so, so close, yes, but a girl such as yourself won’t grow a fraction there with the snakes. Parker Loveless, you might not know it yet, but you’re devoted. Diligent. Why, that sounds almost just like…
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Parker abruptly stood up, failing to believe what she just heard. Hufflepuff, out of all the four houses? Hufflepuff, the one she wanted to get sorted in the least? What was wrong with this hat!?
With her eyes lowered shamefully to the ground, the newly-minted badger trudged toward the Hufflepuff table, barely meeting the gaze of anyone she passed.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Upon entering the great hall he thought his heart was going to stop. It seemed to still for a moment before starting to race. His head moved in whatever directions he could, taking everything in. It took a long moment for him to breathe, the air taken from his lungs.
The candles, he had heard about them and what seemed like a starry night sky up above him. It was what he had dreamed about for so long. It still felt like a dream to him, like the tales his mother and father had told him about what Hogwarts was like from their point of view. No matter what he wanted to be a Ravenclaw, he had to be, didn’t he? What else was there that fit him? Slytherin, maybe, Gryffindor, absolutely not, Hufflepuff, also unlikely. It had just seemed like the obvious choice.
Though usually from what he saw everyone fit the stereotypes of their houses. He didn’t want to be a stereotype. He wanted to be something more, something greater. He knew deep in his heart there had always been something there. Why else would he be standing in the great hall?
When the hat started singing he knew that it was about to begin. What would he have been sorted into? What were his parents going to say about his house? What other people would he become friends with? What would his classes be like? A million things ran through his head but what stopped all of them was...
“Terrance Ross!”
As soon as his name was called he got up, headed toward the stool. Once he sat down and the hat was placed upon his head he took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
“Another Ross eh? Oh I’m going to have fun with you. And what a curious one you are! A young man who keeps his cards to his chest, intelligent, stubborn, strong willed. But loyal, caring, you have courage. Where to put you... oh I know!”
“RAVENCLAW!”
Exactly what he had expected and wanted. Hearing cheers from the table, especially from students who had heard of his brother. This was it. Everything seemed like it was underwater as he went to his table, everything drowned out by his own thoughts as he took his seat. Starting today he was a student at Hogwarts.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
The travel to Hogwarts was one of the most amazing things that Genny had ever experienced. Every part of her journey from shopping for her school supplies, to riding the train, to sailing across on boats could truly only be described as magical. This is unlike any school I could have ever imagined, she thought as all the first years were being lead into the Great Hall. As the large doors opened with a slight creek the shining light of a thousand candles floating in the air almost blinded her. "Oh my God..." she whispered as her jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Genny's amazement had her frozen in place until another first year pushed past her. "Move it!" the random student shouted as he placed himself in front of Genny. Guess school jerks exist even at a magic school, Genny thought as she leaned closer to the boy and gently tapped his shoulder. He turned around with a frustrated grunt and asked her what her problem was. "Oh I don't have a problem, but if you push me again I will become YOUR problem. Got it?" Genny said with a forced smile.
Before things could escalate one of the professors stepped in and instructed the first years on where to sit. Just as Genny went to take her seat the professor approached her and said, "It isn't wise to be causing trouble on your first day." Honestly, Genny knew the professors was right, but it wasn't all her fault. Why was it that she always seemed to be the one to get scolded for doing something wrong when all conflicts involved two more more people? Instead of voicing any of this though Genny just nodded and replied, "I'm sorry professor. The nerves have me acting up bit. I heard other kids talking about the sorting on the train. They made this whole sorting thing sound really important." The professor sighed and answered, "Indeed it is. This decides what house you will be in for the rest of your schooling here. There are no second tries when it comes to this. But don't worry about it too much. That won't do you any good. Trust that the hat will put you where you are meant to be." At that the professor walked off and Genny was left feeling a mixture of nervousness and curiosity.
Soon after Genny's thoughts began to wander a bit, but luckily she was called back to the present moment when the Headmaster started to deliver a speech. After he spoke the sorting hat sang a little song that sort of summed up each house, giving Genny a better idea of what each one was about. They all sound pretty cool to me. I honestly don't know which I'd fit best into.
Next each student was called up one by one and Genny watched as everyone clapped and cheered for each new first year getting assigned a house. The energy in the room suddenly felt contagious, and Genny could help but to smile and cheer for others because of it. Then, after a while, it was her turn. After hearing her name Genny took a deep breath and reminded herself that no matter what she was going to make her time here worth it. She stood up out of her seat and approached the hat with an unreadable expression. The moment she took a seat on the stool the hat was placed upon her head and her sorting began.
"Hmm... You are a curious child aren't you? And I mean that in many ways. Your tendency to find trouble makes you too much for Hufflepuff..."
Hey! Genny mentally screamed, feeling as though she had just been insulted. How rude!
"You know I can hear your thoughts girl."
"My bad..." Genny replied with a small laugh.
"You do seek knowledge, but you seem to seek many things. Between your ambitions and your troublemaking tendencies I'd say you're a Sly-" And then the hat paused. The room seemed to fall eerily quiet for a few seconds as the hat ponder Genny's placement further.
"While I see a Slytherin mind, I sense a heart of.... GRYFFINDOR!"
The moment the name Gryffindor was called out all those in that house stood up and cheered, some were practically screaming. In that moment relief flooded Genny. She was just happy that her sorting had come to an end. As the hat was removed off of her and she started to walk to the Gryffindor table she couldn't help but to wonder what exactly the hat saw in her. Genny always thought that she knew herself, but then again she had no idea that she was even a witch until a few days ago. Maybe there was more to her than even she realized.
