Reminiscence on the Lake
Lucian walked out the expansive front gate of Hogwarts, enjoying the cool autumn breeze on her cheeks, and the slowly changing trees of the Forbidden Forest. The Whomping Willow's leaves were just beginning to turn a rustic orange, and it shuddered in the wind. Carrying her journal under her arm, she made her way down the pathways to the Black Lake, holding her head high and her stride long, a stance her father had told her; "Walk with confidence, and no one will stand in your way."
So far, he had been correct; on her way out of the castle, not a single person had stopped to bother her, introduce themselves, etc, which was starting to seemingly be a rarity here at Hogwarts. She was unsure of how everyone here seemed to be so particularly apt to socialization, but wasn't entirely surprised either. Not everyone had been raised with the independence she had been cursed with in her younger years, meaning most of them felt the need to create their "Hogwarts family", something her brother Oberron had often spoken to her about the summer before her arrival here.
"Now Luce, I know that you're not the most 'social Hippogriff' out there, but don't forget how long you'll be studying at Hogwarts. Seven years Luce; don't make enemies too quick. You've seen how Ellowyn and Salem turned out; shutting themselves in their rooms, stealing out into the late hours of the night on 'business'. They've become Father, and as much as I love him, you're too good for that. I know you're not as hard as you put on. I've seen you."
Lucian had made it to the Black Lake by the time her flashback was over, and snickered aloud to herself. As much as she loved Oberron, he didn't know her like he thought he did. As much fun as they had together, she was her fathers daughter. She lived to impress him, and he of all people, knew that.
Shaking her head, she sat down upon a rock on the edge of the lake, opening her journal and staring out at the dark, rippling water.

Reminiscence on the Lake
~ * ~Ruby was outside yet again, comfortably settled in a tree near the lake, reading. She was positioned in a rather cat-like manner, but she remained with a straight back, like always. Her posture was perfect, and it was one of the first things that people generally noticed about her. That, and the air that came with it. This aura – air, presence, whatever you wanted to call it – that she possessed was made up of confidence, ambition, determination, passion, power, and sharp intelligence. They blended together to create a strong feeling that most people couldn't entirely pick apart, and the fire burning in her eyes that was created by those things was generally masked by her cold, calculating nature. She was an observant, analytical girl – always noticing people, learning more about them, paying attention to what they did, analyzing them and their behavior, always more aware of her surroundings than anyone else seemed to be.
Although she was currently reading, she had just been observing the people below her that fanned across the grounds – some playing, laughing, talking, others alone and doing their own thing. However, there hadn't been many people that particularly stood out or interested her, and since she had gleaned every bit of information she could from watching them, she had pulled out her book and started reading. The young Slytherin had a deep desire for knowledge, just for the sake of it, just because she genuinely adored learning. Knowledge of any type was welcome to her, no matter the subject and its content. Books were a wonderful way to gain more knowledge, and so she had taken to reading frequently from a very young age, and had been going through books quickly ever since then.
She paused for a moment to look up and glance out at the shimmering water, admiring the way the sun's rays made the lake sparkle. A breeze made ripples dance across the surface, and tugged at Ruby's hair back up in the tree. She let a small smile cross her face. It was good to be here, in nature. She did not mind the isolation from other people in the least – it was a nice change, when so much of a Hogwarts student’s time was spent with others. Having classes with other people was normal, but it still took up most of the day. When they were finished with classes or before they started, though, the places that they could go generally had other people in them. They then ate meals with other people, and slept in the same room as them. It sometimes got tiring, given that Ruby was a very independent girl. She managed to tolerate the people she was around, most of the time, but she found a lot of them to be rather lacking in the qualities that she was looking for. She hadn't made many, if any, close friends yet, and she didn't need them either.
When she was looking out at the lake, she spotted a girl sitting on a rock by it. She was alone, like some of the others, but she had a journal – which was slightly more interesting than some of the others. There was something about her that also seemed... different. Ruby decided to take her chances and go approach her. But how? Sighing, she closed her book and climbed down from the tree. She noted the girl's confidence and perhaps slight unfriendliness, but that did not deter her. “Hello,” she said with a nod, keeping her body language open and her tone light, bordering on friendly. “Do you mind if I join you?”~ * ~

Reminiscence on the Lake
Lucian looked up from her journal, closing it slightly so as for the girl not to see its contents, before smirking up at her, setting the book in the grass beside her and leaning back into the rock. She noted the green on the girls robes; Slytherin, as well, as the Prefect badge pinned to them.
How interesting
Lucian's mind wandered to the thoughts of what having an ally not only in Slytherin, but the Prefect of the house, could do. It seemed to be just the sort of ally she'd been searching for, someone with connections, someone like minded to her.
"It seems as though you already have," Lucian snickered, extending her hand firmly up the the girl for her to shake, yet keeping the rest of her body cool and relaxed. "I'm Lucian, Lucian Grey." She paused for a moment, scanning the girl once more. "And you are?"
She made note of the girl's perfect posture first, something most people would find impressive, yet not important enough to remember. However, Lucian was not most people; the air she carried seemed quite similar to her own, one of independence and class, something Lucian found to be quite attractive traits, call it narcissistic or not. She could tell first impressions seemed to make quite the impact on the girl, as they did Lucian, and she made note of this as well. It was almost uncanny how similar their body language seemed to be.
