The Top Box
This is one of six threads for the Summer Camp 2024 Scavenger Hunt. To view the starting post and the rest of the threads, click here. The Top Box
Boasting twenty lavish, gilded seats of royal violet accented with stunningly crafted goldwork in swirling patterns resembling Quaffles, Snitches, and Quidditch players soaring gracefully through the sky, the Top Box is the best place to be for anyone who may want to view a London match from a bird's-eye view. Make sure to bring your Omnioculars if you want a close-up piece of the action, and show up prepared for luxury, pampering, and the rubbing of elbows with London's richest and most famous.
The Top Box is currently empty of any of these rich and famous, and instead, a singular wooden table can be found down at the front of the box. Three piles sit upon the table - a pile of mittens, a pile of gloves, and a pile of socks, all in various colours. Which will you choose, when you make it to the Top Box?
------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CLICK THE REDUCIO FOR A REMINDER OF THE SCAVENGER HUNT RULES:Reducio
- Anyone can join the scavenger hunt, but in order to be eligible to win, you must complete all six riddles before the moderation deadline.
- Each player may only join with ONE character (e.g. you may not join with both your Hogwarts character and your iNPC).
- Each riddle has a deadline of 1 week before moderation will occur and the next riddle will be announced. If you miss the deadline, you are welcome to continue posting and following with the Hunt, but that riddle will not count towards your total score even if you get it right (since the answer will have been announced via moderation).
- When posting in the scavenger hunt, please follow all standard H.io rules, including post word minimum of 200 words.
- Each round, you will be given a riddle that will lead you to one of the 6 locations in the Scavenger Hunt as well as describe an item that you need to pick up at that location. Each location will have 3 previously described options. You will then post in the location you believe to be correct (preferably a description of your character arriving), and you will include in this post which of the items you pick up.
- You will receive points for choosing the correct location, and you will receive points for choosing the correct item. Note that you cannot choose the correct item if you choose the wrong location because each location has different items. You only get one post per round, so you cannot change your answer or edit it once posted.
- If you accidentally choose the wrong location in one round, no worries! The next riddle will still appear in your location during moderation even if you picked the wrong location, so you can get back into it and try to get the rest right.
- Items that are picked up are solely for the use of the scavenger hunt and you will not actually receive these items in-game or out-of-game. All "items" will be "returned" at the end of the hunt and you do not get to keep them in-game.
- No hints or help will be given from the moderation team. Do not ask us for hints or help, because you will not get them. Also, please do not share the answers or just copy what other users are doing. It's every user for themselves - and if you copy someone, they could be wrong and then you don't get points either!
- Any cheating, in-character or out-of-character, will result in your immediate disqualification from the hunt. We want this to be a fair and fun game for everyone. This includes any magical violence, physical violence, purposeful dissemination of incorrect answers, etc.
- Moderation will occur once a week, every Sunday, but times may differ week to week due to the moderator's availability. As such, you are strongly encouraged to not wait until the last minute to post your choice of location and item because you may miss the moderation deadline if you do so.
- This event will take place for seven weeks OOC - six weeks of the Hunt and then a final, currently secret portion in the last location. IC, it all takes place on the same day!
You do not need to sign up for this event. You are simply free to join.
The event will begin, OOC, on JUNE 30 and end on AUGUST 18. Moderation will occur every SUNDAY.
However, the event takes place, IC, on JULY 30.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T POST IN THIS THREAD UNTIL YOU BELIEVE THAT THE TOP BOX IS THE ANSWER TO THE CURRENT RIDDLE! WHEN YOU DO, MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE ONE OF THE THREE ITEMS: MITTENS, GLOVES, OR SOCKS!

Honestly, there was no way that Dori would have explored this large stadium without this scavenger hunt. There was a part of them that was thrilled to talk to Elsi about this later, who was probably still peacefully snoring with Buttons and Kitty curled up beside him. Dori arrived to the lush box that they would probably never have the chance to be in, unless they became famous? Wizard famous? How does one become wizard famous. They didn't even know what they wanted to be when they grew up. Now a different kind of dread crept up their spine, maybe it was just chilly?⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛
Ah it didn't matter. To go with the scarf and button, and well- the stick but that was kind of just like- in their pocket, a pair of beautiful mittens. They did have a little pink thing going on, but they wanted a fun little accent color. They went with a beautiful lavender mitten set. This was adorable honestly. Maybe even if they had to give it back they could knit themselves a similar set later. Finding a replacement button would be hard, but surely possible. Dori was extraordinarily excited to be here for summer. Maybe, Hogwarts wasn't so dangerous and bad after all... for now.Action || Arriving at the Top Box and grabbing Mittens.⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛ ⁛

The Top Box

Another bout of golden fireworks and I took a breath of relief. No sooner, more scrolls showed up. I pick up one from the stand and start to read.Purple thrones? Ain't that at the top box? They are a brilliant royal purple, with golden handiwork. Oh! Then there is the clue about the eagle's view! Where else to find the eagle's view but the Top Box?When scoring goals, each Chaser
Feels just like a queen or king.
Some purple thrones will suit them best
As they fly on eagle's wing.
So find the thrones, and while you're there,
Make sure that you are warm
By picking an accessory
That will your digits transform.
I rush up the stairs, a lot of stairs, to reach the top box, huffing and gasping for breath.
Once again there was the familiar bench with three mounds : gloves, mittens and socks.
The riddle specifies to keep the digits warm. Now, I would think it meant the fingers. But it could mean the feet as well! Between the gloves and mittens, mittens is the warmer one so I would go for that...then come to think of it, socks don't have separation for its digits! Oh, it's the mittens then!
I walk up to the mound of mittens and find that surprisingly they occurred in the right pairs! I choose a black mitten with a beautiful red design on it and immediately slip my fingers in. Oh, how warm it truly is! Now, once again, I have to await for the next signal and scroll. Until then, it wouldn't be bad to for once view the majestic view of the stadium from up here. To watch a match from up here, how fortunate it is!

![]() | x..-. | SUMMER CAMP '24, SCAVENGER HUNT Tone nodded when Zophyr agreed to go around with him. Well, it was for the best because flying was the easiest and quickest way to get from location to location. When Zophyr explained she had thought of it only after the scavenger hunt had started, Tone nodded again. It made perfect sense. The white haired nearly fifteen year old glanced over at the table where a spark of golden fireworks were seen briefly. Signaling they had once again chosen the correct location, Tone was very satisfied with how things had turned out for them. He placed the button into his pack and then picked up one of the many scrolls from the table, opening it to read the contents. After a few seconds or so of contemplation, Tone checked his broom and made sure it was still in good condition. He was particular about Yajirushi's condition. | x..-. |
tone hiro bakugo, quidditch beater⠀⠀──────────────────────────After all, Tone was a quidditch player and his broom meant more to him than anything else. Once he was certain Yajirushi was fine, he glanced over at Zophyr and waited for her to climb on board with him. When she was ready, Tone would take off into the air and eventually land at their next destination. A place known as the Top Box. It was the only place where gilded seats of royal violet could be found amongst the locations given. Coming up to the wooden table situated down at the front of the box, Tone glanced over the three items they could choose from. This was the hardest riddle by far as out of the three, two of them could definitely be the correct answer.
But which one was it? That will your digits transform... that was what the last sentence had been. Hm, if Tone had to take a guess, he'd choose the mittens over the gloves. Gloves wouldn't change your digits, they would only provide warmth from the coldness but still keep your digits in place. On the other hand, mittens tended to change your digits on the outside into no digits, therefore it could be looked at as transforming them. With that in mind, Tone reached out to pick up a pair of mittens and held them in his hands as he waited for the inevitable display of golden fireworks to come again. Surely they would because Tone was almost positive this was the right location here.
Whether he had picked up the right item remained to be seen.

The anticipated display of fireworks arrived as cued, drawing a small smile of satisfaction from the Gryffindor. Even though the riddles weren't exactly cognitively taxing, it still felt good to be right. Patiently, Evelynn awaited the last of the sparks to fade into nothing and the scrolls to appear on the table before striding forward to pluck one for herself. In the same repeating pattern, she unfurled the parchment and scanned the contents, immediately taking off to depart the field. While it spoke of chasers, the emphasis of the clue was on the point of seating, suggesting that the next table would be found amidst the stands.
Only... she couldn't credit purple thrones to the stands. Much like Hogwarts school proper, the seating was little more than benches and simple chairs. Just like a queen or king, the words repeated again in her mind, drawing her eye to a more centrally located viewing area. Only the best would serve for a member of royalty, and the best seats would be those with a goal-side view of their favourite team, or a central view of the whole game, she surmised. As she fell into shadow, her gaze panned ever upward, and understanding dawned. The Top Box. Of course.
Unhurried steps would climb the stairs necessary to bring her to its threshold. Purple upholstery greeted the Gryffindor upon entry. She moved to the front of the box, though swept past the table piled with what a cursory glance had assumed to be linens of some sort. Evelynn had never visited the Top Box before. In fact, she wasn't entirely certain if she had been aware of its existence. For several minutes, she simply stood at the window, gazing out at the sky, envisioning the game playing out before her. It wouldn't be quite the same as being part of the game, of course, with the wind in her hair or the weightless freedom on the air, but it would be a far cry more interesting than being seated below in the stands. Perhaps she could sneak into it for the upcoming games...
But that was a consideration for another time. For now, she returned her focus to the game at hand, turning about to approach the table. Standing before it, she unfurled the clue again to consider the options. Make sure that you are warm. Well, that was hardly helpful. Socks, mittens and gloves all provided warmth to varying degrees depending on the material. By picking an accessory that will your digits transform. ... ALSO not entirely helpful. All three accessories covered digits. Whether fingers or toes, they were all contained within the category of digits. And to transform them? Transform their appearance as a whole? By that logic, mittens might be the go-to selection, transforming the hand from a five-digit entity into that of a bi-pronged vice. But then... a sock accomplished the same thing, collecting all five toes into a single entity.
Structurally, a mitten and a sock were more similar to each other than to a glove.
It was a coin toss, she ultimately concluded. An argument could be made for any of the three options, though many of the other students, she observed, seemed to have taken mittens. She pursed her lips, considering the options. With a shrug of a brow, however, she opted for a different route. If the object was to eliminate two options, gloves were the ones most unlike the others. They were the accessory where individual digits could even still be identified once worn, each digit receiving a a sort of make-over transformation. Not only that, but if the riddle spoke of kings and queens, they wore gloves, not mittens. Unlike the previous occasions, she was not so confident her selection would garner a display of fireworks this time, but if nothing else... Evelynn--who also didn't wear mittens--would have gained a free pair of gloves.ACTION: Taking a pair of GLOVES

The Top Box
The fourth riddle finally comes out after some time waiting for the stragglers to make their way to the Goal Hoops. Colby, now holding three different items in her hands, still managed to grab the next clue and read it carefully. This one was probably one of the most difficult ones as Colby was already standing by the Goap Hoops. Where else would Chasers score goals? Colby kept reading and the next words popped out from the riddle, purple thrones. What did this mean?
Colby looked around the stadium, seeing if she could find something purple. Though, thrones were easy to translate. It was the seats, but there were hundreds to thousands of seats. Were these people really thinking about having the scavengers go and search every stand and row for the next piles? No, there had to be something less broad than this.
Colby's green eyes continued to scan the stadium. Would those thousands of seats be called thrones? She looked even higher and saw that there was a special looking box. It was located at the top most part of the stadium and it was filled with purple fabric. Thinking about it, wouldn't kings and queens sit in a different area than the commoners? Colby had a good feeling about this. She made her way from the most bottom of the stadium all the way to the top.
Slightly out of breath, she saw the purple thrones before her looking down at the field. It was such a clear view of the game. Now to find the piles. She walked forward, passing every purple chair when she found a pile of different clothing accessories of various colors: mittens, socks and gloves. Colby looked back at her riddle. The word, warm, popped up, which each of the clothing accessories would have done. So that was not helpful. Though a phrase caught her attention, That will your digits transform. What the heck were digits? Colby resorted on process of elimination and decided that perhaps it was not socks as gloves and mittens were very similar. So it had to do with warming up their hands. But what did it mean by digits?
She looked at her hands, trying to figure out this difficult riddle. She then decided to visualize the two items. Apparently it was supposed to transform, or change the look of digits. She thought about gloves and how it would fit her hand perfectly, each finger and thumb had its own pocket. "OH!" It was almost as if the gears in Colby's noggin had finally turned. Did digits really mean fingers and thumbs? If that were the case, it would have been the mittens that would transform her hands from five "digits" to only two. Excitedly, Colby grabbed a pair of white mittens and walked away from the piles to give others a chance to choose their item. In her hands, she now had a sticks, a scarf, buttons and how a pair of mittens. Her mind was slowly putting together what her items could mean, but she still could not make it out yet. But it did feel familiar.
ACTION: Enters the Top Box area and chooses a pair of mittens as her item.

- Scavenger hunt -
Four riddles obtained, and this hunt was starting to look easy. They would win the... whatever the prize was. Anyway, the point was they were going to win this easily. No ravenclaws needed for these riddles, just their amazing object finding skills. The riddles in question had led them to the top box, the only place that "purple thrones" could be referring to. The second half of the riddle however, was less simple.
"Make sure that you are warm" could mean any of the three items, as they were all cold weather gear. "Digits transform" though... Again, all three of the items were for your digits, though none of them transformed anything. Unless they were secretly enchanted! That would be so cool! Cass liked their fingers and toes the way they were though, so they didn't immediately start shoving on socks, gloves and mittens galore. They supposed that both the socks and mittens hid individual digits, and the mittens made them look like two "fingers" instead of five. Unless there really was a hidden enchantment, mittens seemed like the best option to go with. They reached over and plucked a mitten from the piles to add to their growing stash of items.

║ I ran over to the top box with everyone else, beginning to get out of breath. There, I saw some very lavish and expensive things that made me want to be a famous witch. But I shook it off quickly, feeling mildly annoyed at myself and the wealth of wizards. I sighed and looked around, seeing three piles. Others around me were choosing the mittens, so it was obviously the right choice. I took a deep breath and grabbed the mittens, hoping I was right. As fun as it was, I was getting a bit out of breath and tired. I stopped, panting for breath, and sat on the ground.
I placed the mittens in my bag, which was growing a bit full. It would be fun to play quidditch in this stadium. Quidditch was the one thing I did not hate about the wizarding world. I loved the feeling of flying around and I wanted to jump on my broom and start flying. But I hadn't thought to bring my Nimbus 1001, so I was stuck running around. Oh well. I sighed and stood up again, ready to see what else would happen. It was time to start scavenging again.Action: Picking a pair of mittens.║

Oh... Hmm...
This next riddle got Emily's brain wrinkling. While she last one or two had clicked when she took her time to think about them, this one now in her hand seemed to require much more processing power. Her eyes raked over the words of the riddle over and over again. The answer was more than likely staring at her in the face but she still couldn't be sure.
When scoring goals, each Chaser
Feels just like a queen or king.
Some purple thrones will suit them best
As they fly on eagle's wing.
"Thrones? I don't remember seeing them in any sports stadiums..." Emily was tapping her foot in thought. "Thrones... Kings and Queens sit on thrones... And they're high class... They're... Like VIPS!"
Emily had taken off once again to where she was bound to be called to, making her way hastily to the Top Box. And to her sheer relief and delight, she found the next set of items she was destined to choose from.
She examined each of them; Mittens, Gloves and Socks. Glancing back down at her riddle again, she read through the latter half of the clue. "Digits... Oh! No doubt they mean like on someone's hands...!"
Of course. Emily was right. The answer stared right at her face the whole time. Her choice was obvious in the end, leaning down and lifting up a pair of mittens from the trove of items before her.
"Over halfway done with the scavenger hunt... Not much left to go!"

Interacting with @ Date - 30/07/24 WC 269/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts The golden fireworks were a common sight at this point, as Mylo had started to recognise them as a sign that they had picked the right place for the clue. Although he still didn't have any indication that the object's he was picking up from the piles were the right ones, so he was curious as to how they were doing on that front.
Reading the next clue it left them stumped for a bit, as they didn't immediately recognise the place they had to go to. Sitting on it for a bit, reading the clue over and over again something came to them all of a sudden, the top box! They had heard people talking about it, and although he had never been there before themselves Mylo knew that the box had purple seats, which was part of the clue!
Making their way over he saw a few people there already making them think this was indeed the right place. Sighing a sigh of relief and happiness, glad to be getting things right he moved over to the three piles that were presented. Seeing people with both mittens and gloves, he read the second part of the riddle again.
Something about transforming your digits... Both gloves and mittens could do that in certain aspects but Mylo felt drawn to the mittens more, due to the fact of them making it look like you have less fingers and thus transforming your digits.
Happy with their deduction he picked up a pair of mittens, hoping to see another set of fireworks to conform that he had chosen the right place.
