What Small Things We Have
Percival frowned as he stared ponderingly at the stack of books that taunted him from their place on the desk. Dusty and old, clearly showing that would be anything but an exciting read. Percival sighed reaching for the first book his Uncle had handed him. Bringing it up to him the boy turned it over in his hands. Running a finger across the gold lettering that spelled out 'Jinxes for the Jinxed'. The boy leaned back in his chair a huff of air pulling its way out of his throat as he glanced out the window. The warm light seeping through was warm and inviting. A part of him could not help but wish to be out there and not stuck in here. How badly he wished to grab his broom and practice playing. Or just lay out on the lawn. Soaking up the warm summer light that would grace his skin. Though, with a sigh that lamented haphazardly on his lips he would focus back down onto the large wooden desk. His home for the next three months.Back Dated 07/03/23
As the boy cracked open the book he could not help but find it difficult to focus. The interaction with his Uncle had been a surprisingly good one. Like a breath of fresh air had been breathed into his chest. When was the last time he had left speaking to his Uncle this relaxed? A frown crossed his features at that realization. The two of them hadn't been amicable since the night his Grandfather died. Had it all just been a misunderstanding? The boy picked up his quill, rolling the base of it between his pointer finger and his thumb. Words spoken hung upon his eardrums like a thin shroud. Playing over and over again. Worming its way through his brain as he attempted to find any hidden meanings.
The door creaked open alerting the boy out of his thoughts. Percival quickly leaned forward from his slouched position into a more upright position. Gaze minutely flicked to his left as he tried to gauge who had wandered into his study. To his mute surprise, his Uncle Terrence stood at the entrance to the library. His eyes widened slightly pausing as he watched the man walk forward. His trimmed beard matched his long dark hair. Percival swallowed giving his Uncle a forced smile, which seemed to be easily recooperated from the older man. His Uncle walked over to him, taking a seat across from him. It was only then that he saw the book in the man's hands. Percival looked back down at his textbook. Listening to the clicking of a clock and the sound of his Uncle flipping the pages back to his place.
