Can I Have Your Autograph?
Date: Saturday May 11 2024 - Post Slytherin -Hufflepuff Quidditch match
Interacting with: @Avery McCall
Tommy rushed through the crowd, pushing his way past his house mates celebrating Slytherin's win. He had places to be and a beater to meet. He had to reach where the Hufflepuff players would exit from before they started leaving to ensure he would see her as she left the grounds.
Hopefully, despite Hufflepuff's loss, the beater would be happy to have a fan. Tommy had not considered how it would look to the beater having a member of the house they just lost to try to speak to them, let alone ask for their autograph. Maybe they would think Tommy was making fun of them or taunting them.
Tommy pushed through the crowd, desperate to make it to the Hufflepuff team's exit. The crowd began to swarm the exits, making it harder to move. In a desperate attempt to keep moving, Tommy flung all his body weight forward. He knocked down a smaller first year to the ground, an accident that made Tommy feel bad. Hopefully, they would be okay, but he did not have time to try to help them back to their feet.
He broke free from the crowd, finally able to run, and sprinted as fast as his legs would take him. He made it just as the Hufflepuff team had started to exit, barely able to speak. While trying to catch his breath, Tommy scanned the players leaving the Stadium. There she was: THE Avery McCall*. Tommy mustered all his remaining breath, inhaling to fill his lungs until they felt they would pop. Tommy used all the Oxygen in one burst, his voice booming "EXCUSE ME, BEATER WITH THE RED HAIR, CAN I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH!" Tommy hoped that this description, vague as it was, would be enough to catch the girl's attention.
Note*: Permission given to slightly god-mod Avery McCall into leaving the stadium.

Can I Have Your Autograph?
───────────────────────────────────The weight of the loss settles heavily over slumped shoulders as Avery ducks beneath the flap of the of the Hufflepuff locker room and joins the remnants of the retreating spectators. The post match debrief had been an emotional affair with Howard's graduation imminent. Though the beater knew they had given it their all, she also knew a game could take a turn at any moment. Any time spent with her teammates was always enjoyable at least, even when faced with defeat.
Avery only manages a few steps before a shrill voice breaks through the din of spectators. It takes a few beats before she realizes that the voice is, probably, calling to her. A quick mental checklist through the list of other beaters that might have red hair draws short at herself. Drawing to a stop, the beater turns slightly to look towards the direction the shout originated from. A moment is taken to scan the faces before she takes note of a boy staring directly back at her from across the way.
She stares back with what she has no doubt is an expression of complete confusion at the request. Still, she's not going to just ignore the unknown boy. Strange as the situation may be. Adjusting the grip on her Silver Arrow she has resting against her shoulder, Avery trudges her way through students to approach the boy. She offers up a quick wave and a half smile. "Uh, hello." A pause. "It was me you were referring to, right?" Why anyone would want her signature, she couldn't say. Her handwriting was awful as it was.

Oh. My. GOSH! The girl was speaking to him! Tommy could not believe his ears or eyes. She seemed less violent than during the quidditch match. Maybe he had built her up in his head to be the embodiment of violence. It wouldn't be the first time Tommy guessed the personality of someone wrong.
"Yes, you! You were amazing in today's match and I had to get your autograph. Before today I wanted to be a chaser, but after watching you I changed my mind!" Tommy searched his belongings for a piece of paper and a quill. All he had for paper was the textbook of his most recent class. He asked himself, what was more important, an autograph from some Hufflepuff beater or his textbook required for classes?
Tommy began flipping through the book, finding the most blank page he could before tearing it out and handing her a quill. "If---if you could make it out to Tommy Patterson, that would mean a great deal to me. I'm T-Tommy, by the way." Tommy's hands were shaking. A mix of excitement and fear pulsed through his body. Yes, he wanted her autograph, but if he was a beater, he would one day have to face her in a match.
She was slightly taller than he was 5', well, if you asked him. Actually, Tommy was 4'11 and a half. She was an older student, meaning he could grow to be taller than her by the time he played on the Slytherin team. The thought of facing another human in a physical sport was odd to Tommy. He didn't like violence. He had never hurt someone, but something about being a beater was enticing to him.
"Excuse me, but could I also ask your name and a little about yourself? As you could probably guess, due to my cloak colours, I'm a Slytherin, but aside from wanting to be a beater, I also really enjoy Herbology." Tommy had mix feelings with talking to the girl. He did want to get to know her, but every mention or thought of quidditch Tommy would ask himself, 'Could I hurt her?' The question of morality weighed heavily on his mind. Maybe talking to her would help him decide, or he could just bluntly ask her.

───────────────────────────────────It was not often that Avery found herself well and truly at a loss for words, but this could certainly be counted as one. The Hufflepuff simply watches, mouth slightly agape, as the younger boy ramble his admiration before promptly ripping the page out of a textbook. She stares dumbly down at the offered quill and torn page, blinking slowly for a moment longer before reaching out to hesitantly accept the items. "Uh...right, yeah. Glad I was able to put a show on for you." The words come out a little slow and stilted, her mind still working on catching up on this whirlwind of an encounter. "And better to have a bat than not up there, so good choice."
Taking a moment to shake herself out of the partial stupor, Avery shuffles her grip on her broom around to brace the piece of textbook paper against the palm of her hand. "Tommy. Gotcha," she mumbles, more so to herself as she brings the quill to the page. "While 'beater with the red hair' certainly did the trick I suppose, my name is Avery. Avery McCall. Good to meet you, Tommy." She falls quiet for a moment as she quickly scribbles a little note on the paper, internally cringing at the thought of writing on a textbook page whether attached or not.
As she moves to offer the torn page back to the boy, she gives him another once over now that she's had a moment for the shock to settle. "Oh, yeah sure. As I'm sure you know, I'm in Hufflepuff," she states, adopting a wry smile. "I'm one of the captains for the Quidditch and Broom Racing teams. And hmm, favorite class?" She pauses a moment and taps her chin in a display of dramatic thought. "Herbology is definitely one of my favorites, though Defense Against The Dark Arts is also pretty high on the list." The beater offers Tommy a bright smile. "Big fan of Quidditch I take it?"
