Pet Ratatat Finished

Little Lemmy scurried quickly though the door to the Magical Menagerie and was instantly locked in place as he took in the site before him. Though there was a slightly off-putting scent to the air with so many critters inhabiting the space, his beady little eyes would shine bright with excitement and wonder as they bounced from one animal to the next. When his parents had explained to him that the students of Hogwarts were allowed to bring a pet companion to school with them, Lemmy had spent an agonizing amount of time trying to decide what animal would be best for him. Owls had always fascinated the lad. Such majestic creatures that were the main transportation of messages within the magical community, but their size left him wondering about the ability to cuddle or travel along with him. Perhaps a cat? They often loved to snuggle, but they also had the tendency to be quite independent and he wanted something that would stick close to him. Spiders and lizards were a bit too creepy and although ferrets were cool and squiggly they smelled a bit too much like urine to be considered cute. Oh how Lemmy had bounced back and forth from one decision to the other. Every time he thought he had it made and new idea would enter his mind and wipe it away. So, his parents suggested just going to the store and let the connection be natural.

After Lemmy had explained this thought process in way too much detail to the owners of the store, his little legs would carry him quickly through the aisles. First a little black and white bunny would catch his eye. "My word, you're a cutie aren't you?" His long index finger gently touched the cage in front of the bunny's nose, but the little critter paid him no mind. A soft meow brought him further into the store. A ginger tabby and a siamese rolled around together in such a precious way. Lemmy spent many moments watching them, but his heart didn't shine in the way he expected it to. Then a squeak from nearby brought him around a corner. There just at the end he spied little nose of a gray rat sticking up into air taking in Lemmy's scent. As the young boy approached the animal it would raise up on its hind legs and place its front paws up onto the metal of the cage. When Lemmy reached out with his finger the rat would reach out to touch him and a bond was immediately formed. He knew then and there that this was to be his companion.
