THE RULES:
Reducio
  • All PCs and iNPCs are welcome to join this event, but must have signed up and been assigned to a group. Please only post in a group to which you have been assigned.
  • Each round will last the duration of 1 song and will be moderated once per week.
  • At the end of each round (week), the song will end and students will find themselves paused with a new partner. Some pairs will find themselves paused under a floating sprig of mistletoe, and others will be spared from the embarrassment! If you and your partner find yourselves under the mistletoe, you're supposed to kiss... but whether you choose to is completely up to you.
  • You may post as many times as you like per round to do unmoderated actions such as talking and dancing, but you only get ONE moderated action (kissing, hexing, punching, etc.) per round, so spend it wisely.
  • Failure to post in a round will result in your character freezing and declining any actions that come their way (such as kisses). Failure to post in more than one round may result in your character being removed from the game.
  • Note that all IC rules still apply, as do all site rules and ratings, so behave yourselves!
In addition to the variety of differently-decorated tents scattered across the magically snowy ground of the London Quidditch Stadium, those exiting their temporary residences on the evening of Friday, August 2nd would have been greeted with a lovely sight. Several small, rectangular dance floors were set up earlier that afternoon in various points around the stadium, and each was now decorated and gave off a golden glow. Those curious as to their use could approach to find that each dance floor was guarded by a post bearing a list of carefully calligraphed names. It seems that today's guest lists are regulated to ensure certain dancers end up on certain floors.

Each dance floor was set up to appear exactly the same, without any fear of getting a "better" location for the evening's mistletoe ball, this year's version of the ever-popular Twirl the Flagon game that has occurred at summer camps past each year. Only when one approached the area bearing their name could they move past the outside barrier and onto the dance floor.

The rectangular floor itself appeared reminiscent of a chessboard, with golden and brown diamonds emitting a soft, warm glow from below, as though each tile sat upon a miniature sun that was simply bursting to escape. Similarly, those who touched the floor would find that it was slightly warmed to stave off the surrounding snow, which also fell lightly from enchanted clouds above. The floor was also lined with flickering candles on the two longest sides - careful not to catch your fragile evening gowns or dress robes in their flames!

Nearby, an enchanted string quartet of instruments play a lovely, if somewhat fast-paced, waltz on their own without a single musician among them. Above the floor, if one were to glance skyward, their view of a wonderfully starry night sky would be partially blocked by floating objects. Upon closer inspection, about half of these seemingly randomly placed unidentified fliers would be found to be candles, while the other half would be small, greenish bundles each lit with an interior golden glow. The promised mistletoe for the mistletoe ball.

One final detail, beautifully enchanted by magic far beyond students' puny reaches, would await those who took even a single step onto the glowing dance floor. Was it a mild form of the Dancing Feet Spell, Tarantallegra? Or perhaps some other, unknown charm? Either way, those who wandered onto the dance floor would find themselves whisked into a fast-paced, whirling dance for which they somehow magically knew all of the steps. Each dancer will also change partners multiple times in a single song, so you may not even know who you end up dancing with, but they too will know the steps from the enchantment. Never fear if you've never danced before - you will dance today!

Image posted by the member

Just be careful - for when the music stops and so do your pounding feet, you may find yourself under a floating candle and be safe, or you may find yourself under one of the hovering bundles of mistletoe with a strange partner. Will you choose to follow the mandate of the mistletoe and kiss them, or will you choose to break the rule?
This event takes place, IC, on AUGUST 2.
Moderations will occur EVERY SATURDAY.
Mods will not occur at the same time each week, so make sure you post before Saturdays to ensure your post gets in!

Asking Basil if they should step aside
☾“throw me to the wolves and i’ll return leading the pack,”☽
Now she felt bad, she hadn’t waited for her friends in her tent. But her best friend.... Brookline hadn’t seen him since he moved! “Er, I’m fine, but could you put this in my hair, please?” Her own words rang in her ears again. As she walked to her own group, leaving her best friend behind, some where with people he's never met before. Oh be calm, Peter, She thought, and then realized Peter had his own way to be calm. Brookline needed him to be calm herself.

Entering the dance floor, she waited for the dance to start. Taking startled glances at the mistletoe, Brookline counted her breaths, no need for a break down tonight, she told herself and desperately hoped she wouldn’t be under the mistletoe. Counting to ten, the Welsh girl realized the dancing had started. Shit, the girl thought and started dancing.

As she danced, she let out her insecurities out and held tight in her tears. Brookline had no intention to cry at a ball nor have another terrible ball. Spinning around, she found herself with a red haired boy when the music stopped.

Taking a glance up, Brookline let out the air in her lungs that she hadn’t realized she was holding. It was a candle. Not a some certain green plant. But the candle was dripping wax on her and the boy. Oh my gosh, she thought, and once the warm wax hit her skin, wincing slightly, she spoke, “Maybe we should get out of the candle’s target zone?” Laughing softly, she wondered why the candle had started dropping warm wax.

Finally came the day of the mistletoe spin, Aston, surprisingly enough, is quite excited for it. Sure he is totally worried about whether he will say something wrong or not but he thinks he'll have fun. Originally Aston was not planning to attend, he doesn't even know how to dance! But with a promise from Kenzie that she'll teach him on the actual day of the dance Aston signed up.

Aston did bring some clothing nice enough for the occasion, he doesn't own many shirts and dress pants, since usually he prefers more relaxed clothes. Aston wore a black suit with a white shirt and a tie, quite a basic choice but Aston really doesn't know what else he could wear.

As he made his way to the dancefloor he got assigned he noticed the list by each dancefloor. When Aston looked at his he was definitely a little worried. I really really hope Kenzie will be here with me... Luckily his hopes did gets answered, unluckily Kenzie was the only familiar name on the whole list. Oh god, well at least Kenzie will be here.

After a good look at the whole dancefloor Aston noticed he was one of the earlier people here. Waiting not to dance till Kenzie came Aston stood by the side and watched for a bit. Oddly enough it seems that there was some kind of spell making sure that people know what dance to do. I didn't even know magic can do that.

When Kenzie arrived Aston asked to dance with her. Even though Aston did notice the spell and he didn't need to be taught he still wanted to dance with her. Aston find her presence quite comforting and enjoys spending time with her. Unfortunately due to the style of dance they quickly got separated. Thanks to the spell Aston did have to worry about messing anything up, he had fun with the dance, though next time he definitely want to try actually dance himself.

When the song ended Aston was surprised to find that the dance also did. He found himself standing across from a black haired girl with pale skin. As Aston looked around he saw some people under a mistletoe, overhearing one duo saying something about kissing Aston freaked out a little. Thinking Kissing?? Wait am I under a mistletoe!? Aston looked up and checked, instantly relaxing when he saw the candle. Wanting a confirmation and believing it'd be rude to not to talk to the person Infront of him Aston tried to start a conversation. "Hello, uh, My name's Aston, what's yours? And do you know if people under the mistletoe is supposed to kiss? I never did look at the ball information myself, my friend told me this was a normal ball."

Casey had wrestled with the idea of doing this since reading about it in the itinerary for summer camp. Prior to the sudden disappearance of his older brother he would've indefinitely signed up for it, having been a little social butterfly back in the day, participating in every street party and community gathering that ever came his way.

But now, almost a year on since the "incident," Casey had been indifferent and unresponsive to such affairs. Whatevee excitement he had for them had been buried deep down. What use was it when his brother was missing, dead or alive, and not there to experience it with him?

Though after the run-in with Emily on the now passed one year anniversary since Nick's disappearance, he had the slow rising feeling to start moving forward. To try and recapture some of the magic he had lost. As much as he wanted to shift blame on Emily for being so damn patient and nice to him in spite of everything, she did bring up a good point. Mr. Grumpy-Pants was an old act by this point - as much work as it would be, it was time he found a spark of pleasure again. To do that, he had to start from somewhere and now here he was, dressed in a smart green checkered shirt and trousers, a navy jacket over him and his hands in his pockets as he sauntered up to the venue.

The dance started and while he was still trying to warm up to being properly social after God knows how long, he danced with the elegance and energy as his past self would've. If he didn't look the part then he would have to act a little bit before he would start genuinely enjoying himself. He eventually found himself dancing with a girl, quite tall he had to admit even for him, and Casey was quite the string bean himself. It was at this point he was starting to get a bit suspicious. He didn't walk into this dance not knowing what the rules were and was silently praying he wouldn't get mistletoe-d... At least, not with the first partner he'd be dancing with, especially if it was with a girl.

His prayer was answered when the music stopped and he and his partner found themselves standing under a candle. Casey let out a soft nasally sigh of relief.

Thank Christ for that...

A dance, Jamie had signed up for it as she had some experience dancing and was curious as to what it would be like. Unfortunately while signing up she'd somehow read over the part where it was stated that it was a mistletoe dance, so that would be interesting. But Jamie had had dancing lessons when she was smaller and as such knew quite a few dances, and was confident in her ability to not embarrass herself on the dance floor.

Stepping up to the dance floor, that had her name posted on the paper on one of the posts, it was gorgeous, there were candles floating everywhere and the floor seemed to be glowing, and looking up she saw a few mistletoes hanging up, having heard of the tradition she was a bit curious if that would have anything to do with the dance not wanting to actually be kissing anybody she didn't really know.

Before she could get to much into her head she had stepped onto the dance floor, something taking over her body instantly and making her participate in the dance, somehow helping her with the dance itself, although she didn't really need the help as this was one she knew by heart from her childhood. As the music continued on she felt herself enjoying the moment, just dancing with a few people and appreciating the set-up.

As the song stopped Jamie didn't find herself under a mistletoe, which she was grateful for, but she did find herself with a boy, someone she didn't recognise but had seen around the dance floor and he had danced quite well she admitted. Taking a slight step back she shot him a smile, and held out her hand. "I'm Jamie, you dance quite well. Although I do believe there's a spell here that would make anyone dance well you seem to have a decent amount of talent." She said with a bit of a French accent.

Ehsilat had went to many balls before but never one such as this. It was the mistletoe ball. Ehsilat had signed up on the prospect of trying something new, however, after looking further into what the ball was about she was sourly embarrassed. If her father knew what she would be doing if she were to end up under a mistletoe, he'd be appalled.
Ehsilat dressed in a decent gown, as she wasn't entirely sure what to wear to events such as this. She was at summer camp, which you would typically wear shorts and a t-shirt but she was also attending a ball at said summer camp? She wasn't certain, so she went with the safest option and wore a plain ball gown.
The dance was taking place on a rectangular, checkered floor with candles adorning its longest sides. A post with various names sat in front of each dance floor. Ehsilat glanced around for the post with her name and found that she was in group four. As she approached the dancefloor, nervous butterflies fluttered around in her stomach. People were already dancing as she stepped onto the rectangular floors and immediately her body began moving. She'd swapped partners multiple times throughout the dance, when finally the music stopped. She was paired with Kenzie Thatcher, who she has made conversation with before but she definitely was not about to kiss her if they were both together under a mistletoe. She glanced above her head to find a floating candle, hovering over her.Yay! I'm saved

It was true that Kenzie had been excited for camp. She had gone on and on for weeks back home about it. Now that she was here, she was having such a fun time. She had gone ice skating for the very first time with Aston, she helped solved the mystery in her tent, she had even made new friends. All of which were very exciting and enjoyable feats. However, there was nothing about camp that she was more excited about than the Mistletoe Spin Ball! Well, except for maybe s'mores, but the Ball is a close second!

A few days before camp started, Kenzie had gone shopping with her friends. They all had such a fun time, and Kenzie had bought this beautiful emerald green, flowy, floor length dress. It had a floral print on it, and she had even found a delicate flower crown to match. In the hours before the ball, Kenzie had taken time to get ready. She had done her hair and ensured that her flower crown was secure. A few finishing touches later, and she was walking through the massive crowd in search of her group. After running into some of her friends and exchanging compliments, she finally found the sign with her name on it. Group 4, ooo Aston's here! That's good, maybe he's already inside?

She stepped inside, lifting her dress up slightly so she wouldn't trip and fall. She was awed at the sight before her, but quickly found Aston standing alone. She rushed over and greeted him, and soon the dancing began. Originally, she was going to teach him how to dance, but there seemed to be some sort of spell in place. With everyone switching partners frequently, she lost track of Aston fairly quickly. Everyone was dancing flawlessly, like a flash mob or a scene from that muggle movie series she used to watch, High School Musical.

When the music stopped, so did the dancing. Kenzie took a minute to catch her breath, no noticing what was going on at that moment. Once she was able to breathe again, she looked back up and scanned the room, searching for Aston. That's when she noticed the two people standing under the mistletoe, and everything clicked. This is not a normal ball...WAIT!

She looked up above her head and her shoulders relaxed instantly when she noticed the candle floating above her. It was then that she noticed the girl standing in front of her. Panic flashed through her veins until she realized who it was.

"Ehsilat! Wow, I almost didn't recognize you! You look stunning- erm, I mean you always look beautiful- erm, I mean....I love your dress! It's so good to see you, I didn't even realize we were in the same group!" Kenzie had met Ehsilat at the end of her first year, and she was relieved to had been paired with a familiar face, at least in the first round.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Unaware of any sort of dance occurring that evening, Costanza came upon the various new setups on her way to lunch earlier in the afternoon. There was little heart in her to question it, so the witch went about her day as normal, meaning she spent most of it in her tent away from prying eyes and scaring off her tentmates with a scowl. Yet, curiosity got the better of her, so for once, she got herself together and left the safety of her tent to explore the stadium.

The spaces were more finely decorated now and were very obviously dance floors. Interestingly, the first one she came upon was impossible to enter. There was a list of names and Costanza guessed that only those appearing on the list had access to that space. She was ready to give up as she hadn’t signed up for any event on this day, but by inspection of the list at a certain floor, the honey badger was appalled to recognize her name written. Hemlock, again. It had to be.

Costanza was ready to turn back, but the same drive that pushed her out of the tent that evening kept her milling around the same spot. It wasn’t long until she walked past the barrier, committing to her worst nightmare. At least the floor was spelled so she didn’t need to worry about tripping over herself. The girl was actually well-trained at ballroom dance, but she was also lost in a deep identity crisis that had her wondering if she retained any knowledge of the skill.

Hemlock wasn’t on the floor, surprisingly. Costanza thought the Ravenclaw would be there to see her humiliation. Instead, she recognized one girl from her year - another Ravenclaw with the last name Quinn. They were in the same tent together as well. Quinn and-

The music came to a stop and Costanza found herself in front of another one of her tentmates. Lam, if she recalled correctly. The witch was instantly recognizable as Costanza had seen her face in the Hufflepuff common room in addition to her classes. She heard someone nearby yelp and looked over to see wax dripping on them from a candle above. Worried about herself, she looked up and instead of finding a candle, the honey badger was mortified to find what was obviously mistletoe.

“Uh, sorry,” Costanza backed away with her hands up. “I don’t know you like that.” There was nothing wrong with the girl. She actually found the combination of Lam’s light eyes and dark hair quite pretty. But she wasn’t about to kiss someone who she didn’t know that well. “Sorry,” she murmured again, counting the moments till the music started back up and looking anywhere but the girl’s eyes.

Group 4
MODERATION POST
This group may be slow to start, but they have so much potential! Brookline Quinn asks if she should step out of the way of the wax, but doesn't get a reply before she's whisked away by the next song. Similarly, Aston Beckett introduces himself, but also is unable to catch his partner's name before the music once again starts up again.

On the dramatic side, Costanza Jewelweed refuses a kiss from her partner - will that come back to bite her later? Only time will tell, but it's good to have the strength to say no! - and, meanwhile, we have two partners who are quite content to dance and chat. Ehsilat Wilst and Kenzie Thatcher reconnect after some time without seeing each other, whilst Casey Stone and Jamie Carville meet for the first time.

The music starts back up again, and the spell whisks everyone away to find a new partner... and by the time the violins fade out once more, each skilled dancer is paired with someone very new, in a situation that is either also new or vaguely familiar...

This event takes place, IC, on AUGUST 2.
Moderations will occur EVERY SATURDAY.
Mods will not occur at the same time each week, so make sure you post before Saturdays to ensure your post gets in!

A Brief Chat with Jamie Carville @Mylo Atkins and Rapid Developments with Basil Murphy @Quinn Brook
Speech: Bold #257379
Thoughts: Bold Italics
Casey made the effort to smile, though most likely still lacking the charm he was looking for. He was still getting used to the fact that he was interacting properly with other people, more so from his own accord. Though that didn't mean he didn't know how to be polite. Upon complimented for his dancing his smile pricked up.

"Not too bad a dancer yourself," he complimented genuinely. "Though I doubt it hardly measures up to yours eh? You've got grace for days, gal."

Good lord, he was sounding like his dad. He was forever a mummy's boy but he certainly picked up a mannerism or two from his old man. Any further and he'd feared she thought he was trying to flirt with her. He was able to keep it sweet and offered her a friendly handshake. "Jamie you say? Name's Casey."

Alright. Good start. Some small talk and a greeting. If Casey kept this up he'd be on a roll to improving his attitude. When the music started up again and the dancers continued in unified momentum, Casey bid Jamie a hopeful farewell. "See you along the dance floor, Jamie."

With the dance now in full effect Casey performed alongside the rest of the group with the same poise and energy as the other party-goers. Across the duration of the round he was partnered with a boy. Casey couldn't help but notice his red hair. Any brighter and he would've thought the boy had caught fire. In fact, as he raked over his freckled face and his form, Casey blinked. He recognised this boy. They went to the same dang school.

And to top it off the music stopped, with the lads under the mistletoe. Casey clicked his tongue, the surprise of the situation slowly catching up to him. It appeared his miracle of avoiding the mistletoe was short-lived. Then again, the situation could've been a lot more awkward.

Better with a guy than a girl I suppose...

"Uh... Hi."
